- After the hell that was Taco Bell, I've returned to Sutton today to give it another go and headed down to LA Cafe which has been recommended to me by a subscriber who has said it's the best café he has ever visited. It's time to find out what the fuss is all about!

Proves my point again Gary. It's these little known places that provide the best food and service. No "celeb" names, no sponsors, etc. Just an honest cafe trying their best in an already over-compertitive market.

@@GaryEats Of course. Two (three, if you consider that "Mickey Mouse" pre-season tournament from 2023) trophies in two years. Most clubs would take your arm off for that. Personally, I was DELIGHTED that we have kept ETH. Recall back, as I can...In 1990 most United fans were calling for Sir Alex to be sacked. To my shame, I was one. But look at what happened afterwards. I think (hope) history may be repeating.
That food was on another level entirely and you could walk past the place every day and not even notice it! This is exactly why we need people like you, Gary.

I thought that. Everything he tried he just said it's amazing and these places might seem expensive, but there's a reason why it costs more. You get what you pay for... at least in this case. What have we learned from Gary's vids up to now... celebrity chef owned places charge these prices but their food isn't at this standard so don't fall for it!

Hi Gary - I have been watching all your videos recently, or at least as many as possible, I was astonished when, within a nanosecond of this one beginning I recognised Sutton!!!!! I live here, I commute into central London every day (and back again), leave the station, look of at LA Cafe but have not ever thought to visit it. Now I will!! LA Cafe is one of my favourites, and I am very fortunate to live in Sutton.
Excellent review and well deserved, but you did not get as far as the delicious cakes they offer too.
It is wonderful cafe, and I was one of the first to eat within when they opened.

I was shocked at how bad Taco Bell was. I'm a fussy eater so I wouldn't go there, but Americans rave about Taco Bell as if it's the greatest food ever.
The problem with 75% of fry ups in the U.K. comes down to one simple fact, quality of materials. This place has nailed it 100%. I’ve now got this place on my list.
The same can be said of 95% of fish & chip shops; Orange industrial sausages, peters pies, industrial fish cakes and leathery saveloys’. As Paul Weller once said ‘The public gets what the public wants.’

Gary, what is there to say about this brilliant family-run channel that hasn't already been said? Love the positive energy-your videos never fail to bring a smile to my face. Me and my flatmates love watching them together whilst we eat. It's just amazing to see the great effort in amateur filmmaking from your son, and to see you enjoying good quality grub whilst critiquing it in an informed way without snobbery. I also appreciate how you can eat the messiest meal in the neatest way possible without compromising your enjoyment of it! Truly a top bloke.
I appreciate all the London food recommendations as someone who hasn't always lived here. If you're ever around Cambridge, where I lived for a brief period of time, I highly recommend trying Aromi, Japas, or Al Pomodoro (where, incidentally, I used to work).
If I were to make a suggestion that I think would improve your channel, it would be to include the food hygiene rating of each establishment that you visit as I think that's very important.

@@747jonothe variety is great, and I think it's important that people remember that a good meal out does not always need to cost a lot, but lower expectations accordingly. I love Wetherspoons fish and chips on occasion, even if objectively it isn't brilliant, because it's cheap, I get left alone to eat in peace and feel satisfied without breaking a hole in my wallet.

Wow Gary! That looked amazing. I agree that’s more of a high quality Bistro than a cafe. Both dishes had me salivating. I’m pleased for you and the cameraman who deserved top notch after the one you were at recently! Very interesting breakfast which is something different which I like and the beef short rib which is unusual at a cafe. These are the places that need publicizing because they are pure quality and we need them to flourish.

Yeah for those who are light sensitive/have epilepsy.
Idk 😅 usually cameras are set to 50Hz when filming here, cos that's what our mains electricity runs at (well actually it can be anywhere between 49.5-50.5). The flickering occurs if there's a mismatch between the light source's frequency, versus the refresh rate/shutter speed of the camera.
The htz setting on the camara just needs to be adjusted
Nothing wrong with the cafe lights. Tried three different cameras but all the same, must be the frequency my apologies
@@GaryEats Actually it may be the cafe lights. Our kitchen light is fluorescent too, and if you really stare at it/the walls you can notice a very faint flicker.
However in practice it's practically invisible to the naked eye. I think a camera tends to just amplify this effect to the point where it's noticeable. ❤

Really enjoyed this review Gary. Looks a great cafe. Particularly enjoyed the Irish stew video where you spoke about how it brought back fond memories from your childhood. Completely agree that the home-cooked hearty dishes growing up stick with you. For me my mum's Sunday roast cannot be beaten, and I've tried Blacklock and many other excellent pub roasts. Nice to see 100k subscribers is right around the corner mate - you deserve every success. Cheers

Thank you, Gary, for sitting outside. It was nice to see London on a sunny day. We can only judge the food visually, and by your sincere reaction while eating. In this instance I'm most impressed by that fluffy mound of scrambled eggs. It is the humblest item, and easiest to get wrong. All in all another well deserved 10/10 from you.
