This is the detailed swap of the alternator on a 2006 Toyota Highlander V6. Take a look at this video and you will see how easy it is to sway the alternator. This was my first attempt at this and it went relatively smooth.
    Tools you will need:
    10 mm socket
    12 mm socket
    14 mm socket
Universal Joint (to angle the socket to reach the belt adjuster bolt)
    2 or 3 extensions
    3/8" Socket Wrench
    Optional tools:
    Cheater bar
    Wrenches (in the above sizes)
This is a basic install and you will need access to just a few tools. Also, with a little patience all of the bolts can be removed and replaced with little effort and frustration.
    Tools I use:
    Ryobi Finish nailer amzn.to/3aJTGWH
Rigid Cabinet Saw (10 in table saw) amzn.to/2X6TCfC
Rigid Dual Bevel Compound Miter Saw amzn.to/2yAlfn9
    DeWalt 20v Lithium Drill amzn.to/2JCA2zT
Kreg Jig K4 Pocket Hole System amzn.to/2UEW5w2
DEWALT DWE6411K 1/4 Sheet Palm Grip Sander Kit amzn.to/2wUEnfc
    Camera Equipment
Crosstour Action Camera Full HD 1080P Wifi Underwater 40 Meters with 2 Rechargeable 1050mAh Batteries and IP68 Waterproof Case for Vlog
    amzn.to/2X6I6Rg
    Kitway 65-in-1 Action Camera Accessories Kit for Akaso EK7000/DJI Osmo Pocket/Wewdigi EV5000/GoPro Max, Hero 8 Black, Hero 7 Black 6 5 4 3+ 3 2 1/DBpower N6/Crosstour (Accessories for Action camera)

Well edited and to the point! The detailed shots of the adjuster, especially identifying all parts with the highlighted editing on photos allowed me to get the job completed. It's hard to see what your working on with this swap, and your video was the most helpful of the 5-6 I looked at. Nice Job!

My least favorite DIY is working on cars but you give good guidance. Thanks for sharing this video!

Oh, I can totally agree!! The older I get the less I like it. What is the most you’ll do before taking it to a shop? I have my threshold but it’s weird...I won’t change my oil, but I’ll swap out engine parts. Who knows, maybe it’s a cost benefit/ROI thing
      Thanks for watching!

Such a fairly simple concept but so hard to explain in a video. You did a great job

Thanks for showing the pictures of the bolts especially the 2 lower bolts. You saved the day 💪💯🙏

Awesome job here! My adjuster bolt was so incredibly rusty, I could not loosen it enough (New England - road salt!). If I had to do this job over again, I would buy the new slide and bolt. Dorman makes a kit for this. Fighting with this added a lot time to the job for me. I just could not get the belt on...
Thanks again for this detailed video!!

I’m very glad it was helping. Did you have to replace an alternator?

@@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO I'm going to do it tomorrow, I'm usually competent but I like to go in knowing what to expect. I'll let you know how it goes!

default. Great! I’m the same way and honestly that is why I started this channel. I hope you are able to complete the swap with no trouble.

Great video with great photos. Thank you for posting! I have a 2004 and I replaced the belt years ago but believe my alternator might need replacing soon. Only suggestion I would have is why not get the belt out of the way from the very beginning? At a minimum, relieve the tension on it. That way it is out of the way and any torque it is imparting (due to high tension) on the bolts and mounts is eliminated. Thanks for posting. Very clear and detailed.

Good catch. Realistically, I only loosened the bolts, and then removed the belt/tension before actually taking out the mounting bolts.

I’m capable of a lot but I hate it so much that I won’t even change my oil unless I have too! Lol!

I’m getting there myself! Now that I have a teenager I’m working on 3 daily drivers and my 4x4 truck! I actually told my wife last week that if I said anything about buying a car “that just needed a little work” to remind me how much I hated spending one of my vacation days working on my truck!
Thanks for chatting with me. Have a great day!

In the highlander hybirds, do they have an alternator or a regenerator?

  • @condor5635

Do you still have this alternator running OK? What is it been two years now?
