This is such an excellent series. Intelligent, logical, charitable. I hope Word on Fire finds ways to more widely publicize and disseminate this. It would make a great small group or parish study group.

So clear and enlightening. It’s a shame Vatican 11 is so misunderstood. If only the scriptures and a deeper revelation of those scriptures by the “Churches” would be brought to light by the Holy Spirit that this unity of oneness would be manifested. Equally important to the understanding of Truth is the scriptural understanding of the similarities of the other religions in the world and their place in salvation under the blood of Christ.

I wish Dr. DeClue had addressed these sentences from paragraph 3 of _Unitatis redintegratio:_ 'The ecumenical movement is striving to overcome these obstacles. But even in spite of them it remains true that all who have been justified by faith in Baptism are members of Christ's body, and have a right to be called Christian, and so are correctly accepted as brothers by the children of the Catholic Church.' That passage seems to say that those who have been baptized are members of Christ's Church. That follows since the Church is Christ's body (Eph 1.22-23, Col 1.24), and they are member's of that body. But a Catholic acquaintance of mine tells me that it means that baptized individuals _are_ members of Christ's body, but _only until_ they reject the teachings of the Catholic Church. That strikes me as a curious spin to place on that passage in the context of paragraph 3.

I like how Dr. Richard defending the Church from those attacks of the traditionalists while explaining the official Teachings of the Church clearly.

Agreed! the inclusion of the official Church teaching takes this series to a higher level. Well done!

Oh, those bad old Traddies pointing out what Pope Francis keeps saying which this guy also says he shouldn't keep saying.

What an uncharitable statement. He's explaining the documents of the Council and not defending against Traditionalist. If you don't know where you came from , you don't know who you are. There are radicals on the Trad side as well as the Novus Ordo side. We are all Catholic. Please be charitable when referring to your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ

As a Catholic that works with a lot of non religious people and those with different faiths; the problem why they have a hard time taking us Catholics seriously is not because of the different types of Christianity. The real reason that I hear over and over from many people is due to the pedophile scandals that a part of our Church swept under the rug. I know Pope Francis is trying to do something about it but the process is very slow and it’s going to take a while to regain the respect from what our Church hid. That’s the real reason that I hear over and over of why we aren’t taken seriously from people of all walks of life and I can’t really blame them for feeling that way.

So should we encourage Eastern Orthodox individuals to join the RCC, or wait for Francis and Bartholomew to work things out?

We should encourage individuals to join the RCC, of course. Full communion is the goal. Dialogue is a step toward that goal on a wider scale.
