Haven't seen this one before. Chris seems more relaxed with the interview than usual. He looks the picture of health here as well. I saw him on the Johnny Lang tour in New Haven in spring 99. He got a great ovation there.
It's so bittersweet to watch these videos. I just love him and his brilliant music. I wish life would have been kinder to him. I fell in love with his music in 1991 and keep coming back to it. Happily, he left us Trixie, who is such a wonderful artist in her own right yet echoes her dad in so many ways. We were lucky to have him for as long as we did.
I got to know his work through a guitar group I'm in and quickly learned he's actually a better writer/performer than he is a guitarist. In a world full of shit performers, he was a true diamond!
The man was so gifted. He just mesmerized those listeners with his voice & guitar. Plus, his lyrics are true poetry. I could listen to Chris Whitley all day. Love his music!
RIP. Saw him at all the shows he came to Boston area. Amazing talent. Always shocked that he wasn't more well known. But I guess that makes him more special to us that know...
This is the first video I've seen featuring Chris that has a downvote. It's just one but still... that person should be punched in the genitals. Actually, you know what, I'm just gonna assume it was a misclick.
Probably not a "temperate" view of his dad - Chris may have been one or two sheets to the wind - but it illustrates a bit of a father-son conflict: app.box.com/s/8mt93fb9dpcywbb2rymtudye8abjf41f
This song was later retitled Little Torch on the 2001 album Rocket House

Very Lucky
I have met him before, sweet man. Shy. Honest. I'm sad he's gone. Talk about a kindred spirit...
As bittersweet as this is... It fills my heart with joy... Love you Chris.
I knew Cris from (BFUHS) High school, he was Radiant, the coolest .

And you literally could listen to Chris bootlegs all day, Steve. Check out the Chris Whitley collection on the Live Music Archive.
Just love(d) this guy. Who called himself a bluesman. Pure artist on his own terms. Don't forget him.
djharp51 Once Chris Whitley gets in your bones, and it doesn't take long... theres no forgetting him and his music.
Great to hear Chris voice again and taking about that great record ! Thanks for sharing Katie !
So thankful for you sharing, Such a sad loss. His voice haunts me every time I hear it.
I completely understand. Genius. The USA is too corny for real artists. Just hype. Some break through. Some get a sliver. Many don't.
Idk who Miss Ma’am is but I love her interview style.
love this song
Hi Katie! Thanks for putting this up, online. He is/was a charming man and a great musician. He lives in our memories. God bless. Egid
