Someone once told me that people who owned those early cars with wood spoke wheels would park them in streams when the spokes would start to loosen due to age and the wood shrinking. The spokes would absorb the water and this would snug them in the rim a bit.
True story! 😉
They did that in dry areas of the west, the dry air loosened the spokes. They used linseed oil to slow the moisture loss.
I like the way You powered your weird boat through the 'rapids' and chose a good path.

Spoked wheel looks like from possibly Brass Era car, pnuematic tire went on rim. Last week I found rusty chassis of 1910s car.

As Beau didn't take them out and tell us they were lead shot, I am guessing fish eggs stuck the the rock ledge. Fish like them glued to a hard surface in flowing water.

I observe as he hunts the verge's in hopes of finding that rare and oft' sought after Civil War relic. Item at 12:16 is a corn planter. Several of them go together to plant corn in rows

Cool video! I live in Johnstown, PA n we had 3 major floods yrs ago. People were out with metal detectors n found tons of cool stuff! That cave was cool too.

Where those rounds balls at the end or fish eggs at the end? They looked like round balls and so did he pick them up off camera? He did say he was getting a bunch of signals over there. Fish eggs don't give off signàls. Hopefully Chigg answers this for us.
It's probably a spokeshave to make replacment spokes on wagon wheels while you're on the road

Looks like the South Mountain area in Maryland. Lot of streams etc. and good detecting site in the South Mountain, Anititam, and Harpers Ferry triange. Oh..and I once found a skull when walking thru the woods. I picked it up and wondered to myself...'Who was this person, why was he here, and why did he have horns'?...

Shoot, didn't find anything worth a damn by the dam... A few years ago when they were digging up the vacant lot next door to build a new house, they dug up about half a wood spoke wagon wheel with most of the steel band/tire present. I watched them toss it into the dumpster and I went and dug it out! After closer inspection and some input from some neighbors... it was possibly from a light duty cart or more likely an ornamental piece from no earlier than the 1940s. Our side of the street wasn't built on until the late 1970s, the houses on the other side of the street were built in the late 40s through the 50s. The property was a potato farm up until the 60s. Owned by a veterinarian who opened the first pet cemetery in Minnesota in the 1920s. I have yet to dig up the yard looking for treasures, but I've stumbled across a few small bottles and rusty pieces of cans when gardening.

Some people actually look for old dump site's to dig up , for the relics and scrap metal ECT .
Tool is a weed root cutter, goes on a handle like a thin hoe for reaching between plants. Probably tobacco plants.

The one little thing you referred to as cog, is a rear brake adjuster. It separates the brake shoes to make them tighter against the drum.

Is just baffling why humans use the river as trash dumps and sewer lines. And we still do it today I thought we would out grown such behavior.
