This game is pretty awesome. I feel like it’s a bit misunderstood be it kinda makes you figure out the variety of each character’s moves. It seems a bit simplistic at first but once you learn how to use the different characters it’s a game changer. & I disagree about Marian being OP. She’s actually pretty weak & when enemies get close & get a combo in on her she’s basically a fish out of water & will get wrecked by even weak enemies.
Right!!!! You get it....this actually reminds me of IGN's review of Streets of Rage 4 (which they shit all over....ironically I would actually put this game up there with it as a shining example of the genre) Sounds like the reviewer played on easy or somethin b/c you actually hafta finesse Marian to keep her alive in general
Likewise, I have watched 2 reviews that say Uncle Matin and Marian are OP...I am like did I play another DD or what cause those two can get destroyed easily if you are an average player. Giving Marian no options besides shooting can be annoyin sometimes and Matin's slow ass can be a drag unless you buy power ups.
@@teckzilla108 & the thing that’s dumb is why complain about anything being OP in a game that doesn’t have a versus mode? If the individual thinks a character or weapon is OP & doesn’t like them don’t use em. It’s not that hard to grasp. But for real Marian & Uncle Matin are not OP.
Looks like a pass until a good sale lands. Shame the developers didn't look at the final version of Streets of Rage 4 to get more ideas from the undisputed best beatemup ever (that Survival mode is godtier). TMNT: Shredder's Revenge being three tiers below SoR4, but still in 2nd place would have been another good place for the developers to have studied.
I enjoyed Streets of rage 4, but the survival mode turns into chaotic plaforming and dodging ridiculous traps, I really saw the potential for a rouge like beat em up highbreed but if there was less platforming and more focus on upgrades it wouldvc been perfect IMO anywyas. Love Shredders revenge, they did an update that really fixed a lot of issues with invincibility frames and grab mechanics that really improved it. Ill give this a try for sure, might join you on waiting for a sale, though.
Gotta be thankful our generation had the opportunity to experience those arcades. Those were great days. I would spend a ton of time playing golden axe, double dragon and TMNT.
I grew up playing Double Dragon in the arcades and this is not that. Not even close. It looks like a cartoon made for toddlers. If you're looking for a less-childish and more gritty modern scrolling beat-em up, I highly recommend Mother Russia Bleeds.
What are your thoughts on Final Vendetta? I feel like they really captured the Neo Geo arcade sensibility on that one mixed with Final Fight and left out a lot of the padding that’s common in many modern games.
@@perlichtman1562 I loved Final Vendetta. I agree, they did a great job of capturing the gameplay of the original Vendetta, but really improved everything.
Fun fact the reason why this is is cause the devs secret base made a previous beat em up called streets of red devils dare deluxe and from the graphics to characters to mechanics its basically the same damn game its like if streets of rage 4 was a sequel to the devs previous game which used real life people as graphics and also had the nostalgia critic
At first I judged it by its chibi artwork, but then I liked it too much, it has all the charm of retro games but feels fresh for its risk and reward system, I do not think it is short, it has the right length for this type of game, there are many unlockable characters, I would have liked some other game mode like double dragon IV tower or vs mode
If you're a fan of double dragon. Buy this it could be the best. If you like beat em ups. Buy this you'll love it. I actually think this game offers more strategy then most beat em ups. I would say harder and more strategic than shredders revenge. Its hard to compare it to streets of rage 4 because SOR4 isn't just a great modern beat em up. It could be the best ever.
Yep play this game is amazing, they redeem themselves after the 4, the music is awesome, the levels are pretty cool specially when you leave a level at the end. The combo system is just perfect and super fun, the tag system is awesome to continue a combo or to save you from a beating, and after unlocking the other characters is even more fun combining strategies it is worth having and playing. And they may be working on a patch for online play and maybe another surprise and a lot of the special moves they got them from the neo Geo fighting game and that was super cool to see as a reference.
This isnt really Double Dragon, and I'm sorry but Neon was trash too. Played the demo, realized you could only equip 1 special move at a time and no grappling HARD PASS!
Idk it's good. It's not amazing. I don't know, there's just things that I don't like about it. I feel like the Sprite work looks kind of cheap. Why does Billy have that stupid half smile on his face the entire time? It's a little more cartoony than I would personally like it honestly

@@Thatdeal79 I’m glad that you enjoy the game but what you’re describing is not appealing to me and is part of the reason that I listed the games I did. I’m just looking for something different. I want a tight, elegant gameplay experience with multiple difficulties (whether that is with dipswitches or a normal menu setting) that I can increment upward as I improve and can finish each loop quickly, without filler: the surface level simplicity is a selling point and I want the depth to be in being able to take my playing to the next level. Final Vendetta nails that and out of the dozens if beat-em-ups I’ve played in the last few decades since the original Double Dragon and TMNT and Final Fight in arcade, Final Vendetta is the single one that has kept me coming back more than any other - though Final Fight was the one I replayed most until it released with the Streets of Rage games in third (especially 2,3,4 since the movement speed in 1 was too slow for my taste). Streets of Rage 4 is a great game but I rarely play it in one sitting because it’s so long. Shredder’s Revenge was so long that even though I beat it the month it launched, I’ve yet to go through a full second playthrough. By contrast, there have been several times with Final Vendetta and Final Fight where I beat the game and I immediately started another playthrough with a different character or higher difficulty. It is an unusually tightly designed beat-em-up and as someone that spent years heavily involved in computer graphics (2D and 3D alike) I have the utmost respect for how well they captured the visual style. Alongside that, as a professional composer that grew up playing the Mortal Kombat movie OST with the Utah Saints remix over and over again on my Kenwood in my pre-teens, hearing how well the Utah Saints and the lead composer’s music meshed on the soundtrack was so good. From the time you start the first level until the credits roll, there’s not a single weak track. Like I said, I’m glad that this game is what you’re looking for and brings you enjoyment. I’m just saying that I would be more excited about it if it were more like Final Vendetta and ditched the roguelike/roguelite elements.
