An update on the KD 16 cushion. Looks to be bottom loaded Zoom Air in much larger volume than a rectangle unit (thank goodness) and no additional layer of foam cushion - that forefoot colored section is a spring plate.

First, great review! Second, would you agree that it's basically just the Zion 2 setup in the shoe, then? Seems pretty much the same setup, but at KD pricing instead of mid-level Zions.
Zion 2 had a standard Zoom unit I believe so these are “better” in that sense. But it really just depends on your needs on-court. The Zion was a shoe built for stability with cushion whereas these are built for mobility with cushion.

Great review as always...but i miss KD12...especially the lockdown. What do you think might be the most similar shoe at the moment?
The traction pattern reminds me of ancient Greek astrological instrument called Astrolavos - you may search under "Antikythera mechanism", named after the Greek island near where it was found. The central traction pattern is exactly the piece that scientists managed to put together.

Just an idea. I think the traction pattern is used to symbolise his precision in his craft just like a clockwork, he executed his every moves on the court accurately. I think

These actually grew on me when I first saw pictures I didn’t really like them especially because it was the blue and purple color way but they actually look nice now that i gotten a good look, the KD line has been one of the best lines on Nike
Loved the design of the KD 16s! Now I def see the resemblance to the Penny 2s…..and it’s a good thing. The outsole looks dope as hell too!! I am bummed out about the cushioning change, especially since they KD line has been consistent since the 12s, but curious to find out what the entire setup really is.

These are pretty nice. Definitely have Penny 2 vibes. And I love the 1995 Jordan shirt. Got mine on Friday.

Wow, finally a pair that you can also wear casually. A lot of the modern basketball shoes you wouldn't wear as a lifestyle. I guess that's why the clasic Jordans sell so well.
I mean as long as the goal is to deliver a great performance basketball sneaker, then I can excuse the shoe not being appealing for lifestyle wear. The latest Jordans are an example of that. Not that appealing to the eye as a lifestyle sneaker, but damn are they amazing on court

KD’s are the most comfortable basketball shoes I have ever worn.
The design looked really basic at first but that colorway actually makes it look way more premium. Looks great.
I was not a fan when i saw the leaks but honestly after seeing them on feet, these are growing on me for sure

50/50 to upgrade from 15s. I wished they retain the full length air strobel plus extra forefoot air would be great, similar with J36. I hope this time they fixed the heel slippage issue from 15s otherwise I enjoyed playing with 15s, my foot never experience any pain issue.

Full-Length Zoom Strobel can cause foot pain & soreness, that might be one of the reason why Nike changed the setup

The zoom in the forefoot makes this a much faster/bouncier shoe in my opinion without sacrificing too much comfort

As a heavier guy I love max/ zoom setups, but strobel deff feels a bit faster .

I feel like this might be a call back to the kd 6. From what I remember they were also referenced to a clock or watch. They also had zoom in the forefront and air unit in the back.

My shirt just got delivered and I'm stuck at work...😢. These look pretty solid, just like the zion 3's, luka 2's and the Jordan 38's. A lot of potential bangers to look forward to.
I think that colorway will be a hit at Stanford's volleyball. It's a versatile shoe, after all.

Hi Cris. Just an FYI, Puma released Clyde All Pro Team here in asia. You might be interested. They removed the pebax cushion and the carbon fiber upper material. Just an fyi on one of your fave shoes now re-releasing w a different tooling. Pro foam is still there.
The traction pattern could resemble gears on a piece of machinery, like an unstoppable machine. Who knows 🤷🏽♂️

These give me penny 2 vibes without the airmax bubble. Not a bad looking shoe.
Nice review. Cushioning setup in this shoe is kinda like Zion 2 zoom strobel in the heel and zoom air in the forefoot. Great performer.

These actually have like a square zoom unit, not the budget rectangle one they use. It's bigger than a pentagon zoom unit but more like a section of a zoom turbo unit, that's why it looks like a rectangle unit because that's a third of it

As far as the cushion goes on these I think sometimes Nike just does stuff because they figured out they could not because it’s better

I went to Florida State so I'm partial to the colorway (seriously, half of FSU's merch doesn't get the garnet right) but I love these.

Held off on the 15 cuz they seemed very basic for me. The What The’s almost got me but when I saw/heard about these, I knew these were it. Nike Basketball coming back wit them progressive designs !
Yo this might be the model that can reinvigorate Nike’s performance basketball shoe as a casual sneaker.
Definitely like these more aesthetically than the last few KD models. Will probably check these out!

Those designs from the outsole look like how different ancient cultures would draw out the Sun. Makes sense since he's with the Phoenix Suns right now.

When I 1st saw them I saw elements of the penny 2s.
Nike designers: for freaks, we want the biggest swoosh. For KDs, we want tinniest swoosh
they reminded me of Penny 5s, didn’t see the penny 2 resemblance till now

Thank you for the review. I am so disappointed! The zoom strobel was amazing. This will be the first KD I won’t be purchasing in a long time. The shoe itself looks awesome but for performance? Full length strobel is the way to go.

It's not a rectangle zoom unit it's a bottom loaded Westbrook unit. The one bigger than the PG 3. Bottom loaded
