Since you are all about music and psychology, there is an obvious choice for a Nightwish song for you to react to. The Poet and the Pendulum is a 14-minute epic journey through the mind of Tuomas and the anguish and depression he went through after having decided to part ways with their original singer, Tarja Turunen. It is an amazing piece of art musically and lyrically. Tuomas’s magnum opus in my opinion. It helps to understand the backstory, and history of the band first, as well as how the split happened and the backlash. You might even want to check out a song with Tarja (maybe Phantom of the Opera or Wish I Had and Angel, from End of an Era) first. The band fired her with a letter they gave her after that show, and also posted as an open letter online. May want to research it a bit. There is a lot to examine psychologically and emotionally. There was a backlash and negativity towards Tuomas after that, even though it was the band’s decision. He went into a depression. The Dark Passion Play album, and that song in particular, is about how he went through that time. It essentially represents a death of sorts, he felt he experienced. Floor does the ultimate version, in the live performance at Wembley. You may even want to consult with your TH-cam friend Brandon again. He gets it. Great reaction. Keep exploring Nightwish!
The last minute of Everdream, with the double bass drum and music intensity, is like a runaway steam train with Floor as the conductor and the guys stoking that boiler 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 Definitely one of the Nighwish favouriyes and best songs. Floor just hits it out the park
We have very, very little tolerance for out of the box music, especially music that is deep, orchestral, and heavy (metal or otherwise). We love our Lindsey sterling but that's as far as it goes. In the states, you will be fired upon if driving down the road blasting anything other than rap or country. Taylor Swift is as deep as the American love for music goes when talking about any large scale artisrs, and even then the music must first cater to teens, which is why there was a rise in popularity for Evanescence, Linken Park and Disturbed. Not bad bands, but when it comes to their lyrics and music, interpretation isn't necessary. It's a hard pill to swallow, but the country just isn't smart enough for foreign music. Delaine, Within Tempation, Nightwish, Agnieszka Chylinska, Kamil Bednarick, and even pop that has different sounds like Anna Vissi--all that is not tolerated unless under the veil of a corporate sponsorship like a couple K-Pop bands. Sadly, those that listen to foreign music are often ostracized because we can't share it with our friends and loved ones. We are a musically bankrupt nation. Sorry, that got dark. Anyway, social media is mostly to blame for that suppression. Yet another facet of culture Nightwish touched upon in Noise.
I'm glad that you're starting to understand that what keeps us together with Nightwish music is not something of the conjuncture. To talk about an ideal love as the subject of a metal piece, here is something out of the ordinary. For Nightwish it is something natural. It complete something in all of us. This is perhaps the closest to my heart from their entire repertoire, because an idealist hides in me too. Thanks.
Another Nightwish favorite, and I especially love when Marko comes in and blows you away too, as if Floor's vocals alone weren't enough... For a real softer one try "Dead Boy's Poem". Also "The Islander" that showcases Marko. And while you're at it listen to Floor and Marko singing "Ave Maria" together, it's absolute magic. Cheers!
Yesss. And do not forget While your lips are still red (live at Wembley). Oustandingly beautiful, Marko on lead and Floor on backings, just like The Islander (live in Tampere).
"... when Marko comes in and blows you away too, as if Floor's vocals alone weren't enough..." So damn right. And that applies also for Jukka, Empuu ...

Yes, Marko can really sing! Another song where he gets to shine with his voice is Phantom of the Opera, the live version from the End of an Era concert. Hello! The video with Marko singing) In your Disturbed video sound of silence I mentioned Marko Hietala and his vocal solo of Pink Floyd cover High Hopes. Phantom of the opera with Tarja, while your lips are still red, Islander, ghost river and plus many more nightwish songs where he actively sings. Marko as a vocalist and performer deserves special attention) he is great.
Marco is a very accomplished all round artist in his own right, but together with Floor Janssen they created magic moments. That’s why so many Nightwish fans were feeling broken when the news came out about Marco leaving the band. Hè has since then released his own new album with some very beautiful songs. One especially Isäni ääni is so beautiful, especially the Finnish version. Even though I don’t speak Finnish I prefer it to the English version.
Floor has said that this song is one of the more challenging for her to sing. You really want to hear Marko's range? Check out the cover of Phantom of the Opera with him and Tarja, or the cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes where he sings lead.
Oh yes, the Phantom was meant to showcase Tarja operatic voice, and she did a GREAT job (obviously).....but Marko stole the show with his Metal Phantom. High Hopes is one of the extremely rare cases I like the cover more than the original song, and I like a lot Pink Floyd's High Hopes. Both songs worth a reaction for sure
She stated this is one of her most difficult song to sing cuz of all the high notes at the end but it's one of my favorites love this song this is one of their older ones when tarja was with the band very uplifting
I'm so here for this! You will be blown away! Haha. This song is one of my favorites, and the one Floor said (at one point) was the hardest she sings live.
Ever Dream is the rawest song when it comes to the emotion of love. Why? Because it is the idea that the other person hasn't chosen the person Floor is singing about. And when you get to the bridge, I've never heard a more emotional pairing than Jukka on drums, with Floor on vocals. His frantic drumming, coupled with her desperate vocals, is sheer emotional feeling. Because it is at that point that rejection is a real possibility -- and then BAM! Jukka shifts the drumming into another gear, and Ever Dream becomes almost out of control, as a song.
Another Nightwish video where you have problems with your mouth. But that happens to others too. It's only going to get worse ;-) I can think of songs that top that. Because the announcement with the softer only refers to the start, two really slow songs (careful, as always, your mouth): A Tarja song that is also one of the first singles: NIGHTWISH. SLEEPING SUN. ( FLOOR JANSEN ) - 2016 From the Amsterdam solo concert, but that sounds like the original and is originally an Anette song: Floor Jansen - Slow, Love, Slow (Live)
If you want to really be blown away go all the way back to her first band After Forever. Vocally it's more impressive than what she does now. Floor was 16 years old when they did their first album. 16!!!!! We are literally watching a legend!!!! Floor is The Valkyrie Queen!!!! Check out the short of A Young Floor High Notes Compilation.
Great reaction! One of the songs where I enjoy the original performance with Tarja almost as much as Floor's performance here. One of the songs she said was the most difficult to sing until Shoemaker came along. Concur with others that the acoustic version of How's the Heart or Shallow from Beste Zangers are great showcases of her voice. Her version of Shallow from her Amsterdam solo concert is beautiful but more like Lada Gaga's original. The Beste Zangers performance is softer and more unique and really showcase her ability to imbue emotion into a song. My favorite Marko song is Nightwishes' While Your Lips are Still Red live from Wembley. It shows his beautiful vulnerable and emotionally charged voice.
Great to see you continuing on your Nightwish journey and letting us come along for the ride! Please keep going, and please just keep going on with Gabriels list. There is no reason to deviate. The list introduces various aspects of Nightwish in an orderly manner instead of throwing you in on the deep end.
This was the first Nightwish song I heard and has resonated with me ever since. For me, this song is the story of hopeful love, seeking the other half of your soul. And the combination of Floor's vocals, Marko's driving bass line, with the totally awesome powerful drum work from Jukka makes this one of the most amazing ending of any song I have heard.
Like you Rosalie I am new to Nightwish and Floor and since first hearing about tbem and listening my musical world has been turned upside down and inside out... thankfully. Paul - Nightwish Army England UK Division 🙏😊👍
" Ever Dream " is the sixth single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Released as the first single from the band's fourth studio album, Century Child, it was the group's first single in two years, following " Deep Silent Complete " in 2000. The song is more operatic in nature than later works and the music itself is more on the heavy metal side. It is still played live since 2002 until today. "Ever Dream" was certified with Gold Disc in Finland two days after its release, with more than 5,000 copies sold, and later received Platinum Disc with more than 10,000 copies sold.
After having heard this one with Marko singing as well, „Yours is an empty hope“ from Wembley would be a good next one. Different heaviness including a challenge to listen carefully to the different voices.
I don't know how many remember the original classical rocker or Bach and roller from Austria Yngwie J. Malmstein His video Icarus dream suite opus no. 4 with the Japanese Philharmonic was amazing. Not only did he write the sheet music for his guitar but for every single instrument of every song of a 2 hour concert.
Hi Rosalie, I want to recommend a band from Brazil, called Angra, to help reinforce this breaking of stereotypes with Heavy Metal, Angra mixes Heavy Metal, classical music, and Brazilian rhythms, making a spectacular and peculiar sound. I recommend you listen to the song "Carolina IV" from the album called "Holy Land", released in 1996. The band members met at the music college in the composition and conducting course, unfortunately the vocalist (André Matos), one of the best voices from Heavy Metal, died of a heart attack in 2019. This album is a masterpiece.
Nightwish is a band that, thru the years have been bringing us beautiful songs and impressive voices with every single of their singers but Marko Hietala is that hidden gem they had in their hand and not often enough we had a chance to see shine in it's full glory and potential. I still like all the pieces he is singing and I am sorry that he will no longer be doing that. This song is a masterpiece where we can feel the power in his voice. Great artists, all of them.
LOL, hearing the Valkyrie goddess saying "But for now, we're gonna start a little softer", is like the silence before a tsunami or a giant meteor strikes earth... 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, we of the Nightwish Army love... love... love this band with Floor in the lead (my preference). I loved this performance and the entire Wacken 2013 concert was incredible. By the way, Nightwish has been killing their 2022 world tour. Carol, my wife of 41 years, and I had the pleasure of traveling from Phoenix, Arizona to San Francisco to watch them live at the Warfield Theatre on May 18th. What a wonderful show. I hope you continue to follow Gabriel's list... although, if you want to stray into a 2022 live, Nightwish at night concert, you can't go wrong with the completely remastered video and audio (60 FPS / high-bit rate) version of their show at the Deichbrand 2022 festival (props to Remastercide for their exceptional work making this video so crystal clear and wonderfully sounding). If you want to check it out, I have put the links to every song in their setlist below. Enjoy. Oh yes, he can sing. Examples: Marco solo - While Your Lips Are Still Red from Wembley; The Islander from Tampere and the ultimate is High Hopes from Hartwall Arena 2005. Also seek out Taikatalvi, I know its there on YT somewhere. Floor and Marco call and answer: Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires, Slaying the Dreamer from Buenos Aires. Marco backing like this: Song of Myself from Wacken.
Floor is a true warrior, over 6 foot, can handle a sledgehammer like a matchstick, but as delicate and beautiful as a flower. A lovely person and I wish her all the best wishes in her current fight with cancer. Crush it Floor.
Hi, great reaction. A word about mixing a melodic vocal with hard rock/heavy metal: It's really about the contrast itself. As when a great chef creates a dish, he or she will mix different flavour profiles, as they say, which makes for a complex flavour that's far more interesting than a pile of random meat lumped on a plate (no matter how well that meat is cooked).
Floor ,Jansen was sixteen when she joined Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997. Three years later the band released its first album, Prison of Desire. She co-wrote the band's words and music with Mark Jansen (no relation) until he left in 2002, after which she was the band's sole composer.[1] Before becoming a full-time musician, she worked as a singing teacher.[2]
As always great reaction Nightwish gives so much in thier music a little of everything sprinkled in I like this so much better than just metal it is alot easier to listen to and I can understand it all lol they are so powerful. as always your ride or die forever have a great day Eyy Oooo
Has much i ever dream and adore that goddess valkyrie, this remains Tarja's song, Floor has The Last Ride of yhe Day, The poet and the pendulum, Phantom of the Opera, Ghost love Score, Romanticide, And of course we were here the Greatest Show on Earth Bless the Child i give it to both Floor and Tarja!
Apparently this song was originally written for Nightwish's original singer, Tarja, personally the version I like the most. Weirdly been into music for over 30 years and never heard of nightwish until I was browsing symphonic metal off the back of Within Temptation. Found the original End of an Era live version of Ever Dream. Wasn't sure the first time, but I was the 2nd, then the 3rd, 4th, took many plays to unpick all the layers of musical brilliance. Now it's a daily play, and my small kids demand it. Daily. I'm now learning it on the piano...
If you want more of Marko's vocal check out The Islaner from the Tempere (I probably misspelled that) concert. Also interesting duet Floor/Marko on Yours Is An Empty Hope from the Wembley concert. Floor/Marko/Troy trio vocals on either My Walden or Alpenglow (maybe both songs for the trio I can't remember) both songs from Wembley.
Just watched this reaction again and have to add.... As I like to say, this song is an ode to a love that you know is out there but have yet to "run into". So they ask... "Ever dream of me?" 😊❤️🤘🤘
Hello, your reaction was very good and the respect and the individual point of view you approach the music and the band are remarkable.I will be very curious to see how you will receive and interpret it as a psychological specialist The poet and the pendulum...but until then, a long and magical journey awaits you in Nightwish and I hope in the Floor universe.Thank you for more success.😀
Hre is my story:, connecting me to this song: I came to see a woman on a certain platform. So beautiful. 1st thing that got me was her smile. Then I looked down her body. And I thought to myself (I'll never forget that moment) : a girl as beautiful will never happen in your life, dude! Some 10 years later, this woman put a ring on my finger. Girls and guys: miracles CAN happen! Rosalie: you are a fountain of positity. Thanks a ton!
Every time I see Floor, the first thought in my head is "Hannes (drummer from Sabaton) is such a lucky bastard!" I saw Floor at this show the first time and I fell in love within seconds. Like most of us did. She is a BEAST!
This day, on this concert in Waken Floor take her soul and trow it`s in our`s souls to make us all better person and take our souls in Vallhalla when time has come. To many "souls" and "ours" but o think you understand my messege. Hello from Nightwish army Ukraine 💙💛 🤘
From Nightwish listen "The Islander" Live from Tampere. Also if you like to hear more Marko, check out he's own band Tarot or his solo album "Mustan Sydämen Rovio" (Pyre Of The Black Heart) The album can be found both in Finnish and in English
Rock and metal are as close as the moon is to the earth, there are endless bands that play metal and symphonic rock. The father of symphonic metal is Therion, but bands like Epica and Nightwish have been able to sell it very well. In fact, Nightwish has the song The Phantom of the Opera with the original vocalist. You should check it out, it's a great song with a great performance. You won't regret it!
Another great reaction, Rosalie. Love how this song builds and builds and builds, until the last minute or so when it's going approximately a million miles an hour! I consider that entire Wacken 2013 show one of the best things ever put to video. Nightwish was on fire that night!
So,.... This song, believe it or not ,at that time, was the hardest song for Floor (vocally). But ,...THIS IS Floor Jansen Ladies and Gentlemen !!!! Also, Marko really showing off on this one 😁. And now, this song is on their set list forever (Floor does Marko parts now also). NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
Hi Rosalie, if you've been impressed with what you've seen of Nightwish so far, when you react to the song: "The greatest show on earth" you're going to be moved like never before, look especially for the version from the concert in Tampere, Finland, you're going to cry with the show and the song, it will be a before and after in your life, you will not see music in the same way, greetings, I hope your video reaction of that concert in Finland. I love your channel.
There is a metal festival every summer in Helsinki Finland called Tuska(agony), and it's the favorite festival of the Finnish police because it's the event with the least need for police action. There are no fights, no overdoses, no drunk idiots breaking stuff. Just people enjoying good music.
They simply don't have any bad songs, just varying degrees of brilliance 🤘

Nightwish - Gethsemane [Live Buenos Aires 2019] Best !!!
I love the way that Jukka plays the drums! 😎 Great reaction video btw.
I"m LOVING your Nightwish and Floor Jansen journey!!!! 😍😍😍
Really cool to see new fans finding Nightwish! Welcome to Nightwish family 🤗🥰 Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮
And this was just one of her first big concert with the band!
They are by far the best in their genre.
Wacken 2013 was a big debut for Floor Jansen. So yes, this festival and the set really was aq showcase of what she can do, to get the fans on board
"Ever Dream" was certified with Gold Disc in Finland two days after its release, with more than 5,000 copies sold, and later received Platinum Disc with more than 10,000 copies sold.
thing that most overlook is the big big smile floor has when she sings this
After having heard this one with Marko singing as well, „Yours is an empty hope“ from Wembley would be a good next one. Different heaviness including a challenge to listen carefully to the different voices.
This beautiful song at THIS live show carries SOOOO Much ENERGY!
Oops I made a typo. It is Icarus Dream suite Opus No. 4 with the Japanese Philharmonic.
@@troydruckenmiller1751 You can correct what has been written!
@@C.C.2000. Hey thanks. Never did that before.
Yes - I do remember Malmstein but not entirely sure what the hell this has got to do with Nightwish !
Hi
The Yngwie Malmsteen I know is from Stockholm, Sweden...
Maybe there is more than one
Greetings from Sweden
I just checked Angra. Great band. Great vocals. I will definately check moore of their music. Good recomendation.
Great reaction, try 'Bless the Child ' fantastic underrated song 😇😇😇👍
Hail Nightwish 🤘🤘🤘
Marko is no joke, if I remember correctly he won the Masked Singer competition in Finland.
NightWish is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get, you just know it will be really good!!!! 👍👍🤘🤘
I have never found anything to complain about with Nightwish, except the sound quality of some fan made concert videos.
Don't have any Word to describe what i felt when i heard this song... Justo epic

Examples:
Marco solo - While Your Lips Are Still Red from Wembley; The Islander from Tampere and the ultimate is High Hopes from Hartwall Arena 2005.
I know everybody talks about Floor’s voice which is always mind blowing but can we just talk about the band for a minute- speechless just speechless
I can't wait for your reaction to "Yours an empty Hope". (Wembley version)
If you want to hear Marko more on his own try The Islander or While Your Lips Are Still Red.
I CAN'T wait for your The Greatest Show on Earth (live in Tampere) reaction, it will make you fall in love even deeper with them!
Theyre my fav band, they make music a living experince.
Marko and his Heavy falcett is glorious and famous among Metal Fans and Genre...
"Ever dream of me?"
😊❤️🤘🤘
Rosalie your absolut Cool, and I Hear that your German ! Very Proud of this
yes sir! :) I am. thank you!
I remember first geeking out when I heard Nightwish. I went to my band mates saying "it's opera metal", they were like "Whaaa??"
Hre is my story:, connecting me to this song:
I came to see a woman on a certain platform.
I love Marko's vocals.
the guitar solo in this one is pretty cool too and listen to that double kick drum at the end the drummer tears it up
Yes..I'm always thinking about His drumming. All can I say..those drums..is in best level, to keep this..but this drumset is beautiful...❤
Its fun with a band with two really good singers.
From Nightwish listen "The Islander" Live from Tampere. Also if you like to hear more Marko, check out he's own band Tarot or his solo album "Mustan Sydämen Rovio" (Pyre Of The Black Heart) The album can be found both in Finnish and in English
When Floor says start a little softer, she only means 20 seconds or so! The last minute or so is absolutely epic.
Might be ready for I want my tears back. Definitely need to do live in Buenos Aires.
Hi , great reaction on our Valkyrie and Nightwish , next Ghost River .
Marco is amazing, in fact he won the masked singer in Finland.
I was in that gig in Wacken. Perhaps perfect live show!
Another one was in Tampere 2016.
💙💙💙All Hail Floor !! 💙💙💙

I am so jealous of you,,, So much still to dicover. lucky you. Like my children did discover all the wonders of the world.
The Happiness on stage and on crowd is unique. That’s Nightwish 🔥🤘❤️🇫🇮
We are here...we are everywhere....Nightwish Army
great reaction, thanks from Colorado
I interpret the lyrics as unrequited love, Sung by the person with the crush.
Nightwish - Yours is an empty hope
“It’s musical art” 👌🏻 👏
There is a metal festival every summer in Helsinki Finland called Tuska(agony), and it's the favorite festival of the Finnish police because it's the event with the least need for police action. There are no fights, no overdoses, no drunk idiots breaking stuff. Just people enjoying good music.
I heard a rumor that during one of the performances, of which are on TH-cam, she was sick with the flu and still sang as well. Unbelievable.
Great reaction Rosalie! Really enjoyed this song and your comments.
