I’m 6 months post-op and have reherniated my disc. I know the pain and struggle you’re talking about. I have two young children and it’s been very difficult explaining that I’m injured again. Might be looking at a second discectomy.

Thanks so much for sharing! I'm exactly 6 weeks out from my MD right now and still dealing with a significant amount of nerve pain. Really appreciate you touching on the emotional side of surgery recovery and the non-linear recovery process. I'm going in a few weeks to do a follow-up MRI to double check for a re-herniation and just trying to stay calm until then. I would love to hear more about your experience post-op from when the nerve pain returned to however many weeks or months later you finally realized it was completely gone and what that process looked like day to day/week to week in between - those stories give me hope!

@@davidyoung1570I would say about 90% recovered but it was a REALLY rough road. Surgery was 100% the right choice for me but I now wish I had done it earlier to try and lessen some of the nerve damage in my leg. I’ve been going to PT 2x a week since my surgery in July 2023 and strength training (carefully) and doing mobility work 3-4x a week and I finally feel like I’m nearly healed. However if I don’t keep up with my exercises, a bit of lingering pain always pops-up, so this is really a lifelong journey. I’m just grateful to feel stronger, mostly pain free and to be able to sit and drive and travel again!
