    Your dad actually means "mother of the family" or "mother of the kids" when he calls your mom "lo4 mo2" 老母. But lo mo is actually not a very polite way to say "mother". Most people would say "ma1 mi6" 媽咪 or ma6 ma1 媽媽, instead.
    老 means old, 母 is a very old way to say mother. But in Cantonese since the term "老母" is often abused by people when they curse, it becomes a not very polite term. When standing alone, "母" is very polite which is pronounced as mo4, not mo2.

    NO. I order the six tones so as to preserve their relative pitch ranking. Other tone ordering are "WRONG". "ALL" linguists do not understanding the relative pitches of the six tones in Cantonese. They wrongly believe that Cantonese is nothing more than a variant of Mandarin, when in fact, Cantonese is a language that relies heavily on relative pitches, not only tonal changes. Mandarin, on the other hand, relies heavily on tonal changes within a single word and not much on relative pitches.

    • @LearnCantoneseFast
      @LearnCantoneseFast  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The average pitch of 2 is higher than that of 4. In fact, if you follow my Romanization scheme, Tone 1 through 6 are in the right pitch ordering, with tone 1 having the highest pitch and tone 6 having the lowest pitch. If you follow any other romanization scheme, you end up being unable to obtain the right pitch ordering for the six Cantonese tones.
