Lewiston NY 🇺🇸 Walking Tour / Shuttle Ride And Exploring The Charming Village Of Lewiston

Today we are hopping on a shuttle bus that is FREE and taking a ride from Niagara Falls, NY to the town of Lewiston NY.
The shuttle is free and it stops at several places along the route. Hop on hop off as you like. This is perfect for those who want to relax and not worry about driving and you get to see many sights along the way if you choose to.
I get on the bus in front of the Holiday Inn hotel that is close to the Niagara Falls Visitor Centre, located on Rainbow Boulevard in Niagara Falls, NY.
The route this shuttle takes is called : “Falls To Fort route”.

I found the shuttle convenient and a great way to go further and explore beyond the falls.
LEWISTON: Home to the first major battle of the War of 1812 and revered as the final stop on the Underground Railroad, Lewiston’s been privy to some monumental history. (Not to mention the fact that this neck of the Niagara River is where the Falls first formed some 12,000 years ago.
When we arrive in Lewiston NY I walk down Centre street. This street is lined with nice shops and restaurants and gardens. We walk until we reach the Lewiston waterfront. The waterfront has a beautiful park that overlooks the Niagara River. This is where the adventure ends. Shout out to @gabrielapaulinho1luv for giving me the info about the free shuttle. We love the hop on hop off buses, Christine. The price is right here too. We take them in many of the big cities(usually grey line too, but not free) we visit and it looks like your in great hands with Rocco! Bit noisy though with the bumps. Yes, with such a lovely young lady to distract you, I can see missing a turn! 😁😁 But of course, that's we we'd be waiting to hop on! 😮😮We enjoyed your stroll though and seeing all the shops and restaurants in Lewiston. A quant town with a small town feel. Enjoyed the full tour.

Wow, awesome video Christine! I never knew there are so many nice spots in the Lewiston area! I especially like the area around Murdoch's Landing. Morning Chris looks gorgeous there and hear that the bus is free 😃 Nice to look around the area while you were on it, it's such a beautiful place. Lewiston looked really lovely when you got off. Sounds like there is some interesting history here with it being the place of the first major battle of the 1812 war and I didn't know that the Falls formed about 12,000 yrs ago 😯

I’m glad that I finally got time to watch this tour! I pass through Lewiston all the time, as I volunteer at Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown- but as I am always on my way there when driving, I don’t really get to see all the sights in Lewiston (which- as you can see- is a very charming village). This gave me an opportunity to do so, and your pleasant conversation as you walk along is always a nice accompaniment.
I see these shuttle buses all the time at the fort, but I had no idea that people could ride them for free; that’s very nice!
The shops in Lewiston are so varied, and unique! I would love to just walk down Center street, as you did- and look in the windows. If you go on Wikipedia, you can find a synopsis of the story of the “Tuscarora Heroes” statuary; it is well worth reading of the courageous and noble behavior of members of the Tuscarora Nation in saving the lives of innocent white settlers during the War 1812. This story is commemorated through these sculptures. Thanks for this nice walk (and the nice ride from the bus driver)! : )
Hi Janet. I will make it to the Fort in the summer…I thought about going that day but I wanted more time to explore. I hope your there the day that I do go. Lewiston is such a lovely town, I will definitely go back with my family to enjoy some food and explore the shops and maybe a nice slice of cheesecake! Thanks for sharing about the statue. I also hope that you can make it up to the fort- but as Lewiston has a lot to see, you were wise to limit yourself that day. (I like those swinging benches along the river, too!). FYI, Lewiston has some really neat stuff going on at Christmas-time. Various homes and buildings are beautifully decorated by professionals and people can tour them (though I believe that there is a fee for that). Musicians are stationed at various places along the way (inside, because of the cold), providing Christmas/holiday music. Our daughter (a college music major many years ago) used to play for this. @janetryan9779 Janet thank you for the info. Sounds like a nice celebration during Christmas…they do have something similar in Niagara on the Lake but with carollers and they have a candlelight stroll where you walk with a candle and enjoy music thru the town. I will be going back. 😊

Thank you for posting this. I'm gonna be there next week and was gonna take this shuttle, and I thought I have to catch it at the Discovery Center, but it stops very close to my hotel. The area doesn't look as sketchy as people were saying. Shuttle is smaller than I expected. IDK why they would put window covers on a site seeing shuttle though. But this video was really helpful. I know more or less what to expect now. I'm still amazed that they have a free shuttle to all these places. The ones on the Canadian side charge money, and are quite pricy.

@WeGoPlacesTours I'll probably skip Lewiston, but I planned to visit the Whirlpool and Fort Niagara. There's a free shuttle that goes to Lockport even.
Yeah, the Canadian side seems to have more amenaties, but the American side seems to have their logistics in better order. IDK why the Canadian one doesn't sell a discounted combo pass for Niagara and Niagara on the Lake. Canada has more attractions, but they're so spread out.
They really do. I go to Canada a lot and Canadians always love ripping as much money off you as possible, especially the private attractions. I don't remember ever visiting and it being cheaper than the US.
They should have a ferry between Fort Niagara and Niagara on the Lake, and I also think it's ridiculous that you need a passport/visa just to visit the border zone for a couple hours. When I was little, we could go to Canada without a passport.
Yes your right there are many attractions on the Canadian side some that are quite far away from the main tourist area. They do have a 24 & 48 hour WEGO bus pass you could get and also an attraction pass that does save some money. Fort Niagara is one place I will go soon too and I want to explore the area near there. @@WeGoPlacesTours Yeah, I was gonna get the 48 hour one, but you still have to pay extra to go to Niagara on the Lake. I looked at the attractions pass and it's not worth it, because it would end up costing me more, and I won't be visiting most of the places on it. If I was staying in Canada, I might've gotten it. But the Canadian side is more expensive. The one place I'd love to visit that they don't have tours to, is the Bruce Peninsula.

@@WeGoPlacesTours Yes I did, Christine!😄 I ate 2 square slices😋, and took back to the hotel -- via a Discover Niagara shuttle of course -- a heavy doggy bag containing 2 more slices, an Italian sausage parmesana hero and several bottles of soda pop.😋 But yeah, Vincenzo's is a family-owned and -run pizzeria, and everyone there was so friendly to me. In fact, as shown in this great video of yours, just about everyone in Lewiston greets you and makes you feel welcome.
Also, I smiled from ear to ear when you were capturing lovely images of Lewiston's Niagara Crossing Hotel & Spa. That one's on my must-do lists. I've never ever experienced a spa (was waiting for a spa gift certificate from my adult niece and nephew for years ... lol), so my virgin spa experience will happen either at that grand hotel or on a cruise. I've got a milestone birthday in the near future, so I'm going to splurge on a luxurious spa treatment. Well, I've never been on a cruise either ... I'll decide before it's too late.🪦😳
Speaking of ... I've ridden the wonderful Discover Niagara shuttle (and trolley) a few times but never realized it went past Oak Lawn Cemetery (did I get its name right?), where Horseshoe Falls barrel heroine Annie is buried.
Oh, and Silo, down at the Lewiston waterfront -- I'll be dining there when I stay at that spa hotel. I wonder if Lewiston is known for spa hotels; I say this because you mentioned the one you saw before walking down the hill that leads to Niagara Crossing.
Also, next time I'm headed Lewiston, I'll board a morning Discover Niagara shuttle in order to enjoy antiquing all day, with breaks for lunch and for dessert -- the latter at the Village Bake Shop (Shoppe?). That'll be a day trip. I'll need time to save more funds than for my normal accommodations in order to stay at Niagara Crossings. In season, I'd be splurging, but I can't go off season because then the Discover Niagara shuttle wouldn't be operating. The only way I would travel to that hotel & spa and back to Niagara Falls would be via the free DN shuttle. That's what sucks about being a non-driver. But thank the heavens for a free shuttle!

Ok good to know about the pizza place thank you…my son loves pizza so we’ll be going there in the near future for a family day trip. Gabriela, I’ve only been to a spa once myself at the Pillar and Post in Niagara on the Lake …it’s definitely a nice feeling to get pampered. The cemetery is Oakwood Cemetery I believe and I think Rocco the driver said there are more people buried there who went over in a barrel.
The hotel by the waterfront does look really nice..I looked it up online! Sound like you have a great day planned for visiting in the future…antiquing, desserts, sounds like a perfect way to enjoy the day!
