I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve cried to this many times. Especially the end scene. And the lady even has a June Carter Cash tattoo, so she’s been through the same shit. Just fantastic.
This is the most inspiring music video I have ever watched. I actually put in in slow motion so I can watch it over it more details. The story is so inspiring, so touching, and so true. This makes me feel for Mike Ness even more. The true pain someone can endure.. the loss of loved ones, drugs, brokenhearted, and prison... there's so much anguish. But the MESSAGE told in this video is so desperately inspiring, that you can't help but to fall in love with the song and lyrics. Mike Ness is telling us that no matter how hard life is, no matter how much pain you've seen, and even if you're rather just die, you can come out of it with a little bit of love, music, and the right mindset. This song deserves a medal. Why can there be more positive people like this?

Not weird at all. It's good music! If it weren't it would just suck! And it made you feel a certain way. That's what good music does. Takes you back to a certain time and place. Don't be sad. Enjoy! 👍😎
Everytime I watch this I shed a tear because I've been there and back and punk rock saved my life . And this is one of the best songs and concepts for a vid I've ever heard big props to Mike Ness.
Joe Strummer changed my life. Mike and Johnny have been great friends and I will always be grateful for the true story and not changing much over the years. Punkrock till the dirt hits the lid
It is impossible not to shed a tear. Personally the joey's part gives me goosebumps. His music definetely saved my life so in that part i can totally relate with Mike
This just made me tear up big time. Damn...something about getting older. Something about my inner child still being hurt and sending me down a path. Something about losing people. Losing yourself. Being reunited and helping a kid that would've been just like you.
I picked up listening to Social Distortion in long term rehab after reading Noah Levine’s Dharma Punx. Both served two of several inspirations to keep fighting for a better future for myself after a life of chaos. After a youth of drink, drugs, anger, and poor choices, I am coming up on 6 years clean as I write this, heading off to a second chance at college tomorrow. Excelsior!!
Grew up middle class in a loving family. That didn't mean I wasn't mad at the world, treated people bad, and mostly angry growing up. We've all made mistakes. Thanks Mike for solid music. It can turn out better. At times it can be difficult to believe.

Thankyou for getting me through alot of hard times, and inspiring me to seek a life of sobriety, jan 3rd 2022 will be 7 years that I'm clean, and the songs of social distortion still ring true today as they did when I first heard my favorite band. God bless you and your bans members Social Distortion por vida
I can’t help but listen to this song and watch the video at least once a year for about a week straight. This song absolutely gives me chills, and like many of you this song and video came into my life when I was in the complete grips of alcoholism going through a divorce losing my child and job of 24 years and things would get worse. Thank goodness for this song and video, and God bless Social Distortion. All of the music has positive messages that everyone could learn from. I have been listening to this great band since the 80’s and message gets clearer and clearer every time I listen to them. For those of you so lucky to cross paths with there music you know exactly what I mean.
This is my favorite Social Distortion Video. In dealing with my own addiction problems, I have many times turned to Mike Ness's lyrics as a reminder that I can overcome any demon. Thank you Social Distortion.
So, MIke's idols/influences, in order of appearance are: Joey Ramone (first allegorical tat), Joe Strummer (second allegorical tat), next, Mike is watching the New York Dolls play, then on either side of Mike, floating up and down, there's Sid Vicious (left side) and Johnny Rotten (right side), Brian Jones (left side) and Keith Richards (right side), Johnny Thunders (left side) and Iggy Pop (right side), (then Johnny Thunders becomes the third allegorical tat) then Billie Holiday (fourth allegorical tat), then the Poker game gone-bad shoot-out with Hank Williams (fifth allegorical tat) --and I think a young looking Merle Haggard makes a cameo playing Poker w/ Williams for a few seconds--and finally we see Johnny Cash w/ Mike in prison (sixth allegorical tat). And I think the two allegorical tats on Ness's woman at the end are of a younger Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Great song and video! Viva Social D. !
i did sign just to say that this is the best ja video clip made only who has so watch this with a tear in the eye, my tattoo as well as the video is from Mike ness the one who got me for a long time, you lived forever

Joey Ramone - Joe Strummer - Johnny Thunders - Hank Williams Sr. - Johnny Cash and the ones who go pretty fast are Sid and Johnny, Keith and Brian Jones and Iggy Pop with Johnny Thunders I think
Been there, and what better band than Social to keep the spirit up. I have them to thank for so much greatness that came from getting out of years living on the wrong side of the railroad track.
Everytime i go to that place this song pulls me out. I just pray Mike knows what he’s done for people like me. Whether intentional or not, he changed my life for the better like so many others. I don’t know much of the world because i’m only 25 at writing this, but i know enough to know that there’s always tomorrow and it can always be much worse. Whether it’s dumb petty crime for no reason, suicidal thoughts, or loneliness creeping on us, he can make us wake back up into being the person we’re meant to be
Perfect blend of raw and honest rock and roll for nearly 40 years...they carved out a sound all their own...with American punk rock and plain old Americana....a true giant of the game.
Not a huge Social D fan. There are some great tubes they have done over the years, but for some of reason this one has me hooked. All the musicians he played homage to superb.
(TOTAL coincidence.... That I would find someone I know in the comments) NJ Punks is what we are, Jack... I am glad we beat all demons that grabbed us and mistakenly thought they were stronger than us... more than that, I am proud that we are friends today.
I owe so much to social d, if it wasn´t for social d and Mike Ness i´d probably be dead by now, this whole album has saved my ass sice I first listened to it
Dennis Miklas Well, I've thoroughly enjoyed writing, playing and occasionally performing tons of the stuff in my life so I certainly know how music affects people, especially when you're very young. When you you get to be around 25-30 it unfortunately doesn't have that intense, very fulfilling, authentic human effect anymore, which is of course very sad, but it certainly remains something that you like. I just wonder how it seems to affect some people so much, that they say it changed their lives. It's a wonderful art form, best damn form of human expression ever invented if you ask me--but once you get to be around 25 it becomes painfully obvious that the only way to really improve your life is to make a lot more money. I still love music though, it's just that it's place in your heart (which will always be there for it) diminishes in importance past about the age of 25. I can't imagine music, no matter how great (and Social D really kick ass) actually changing anyone's life.
I disagree with BasementEngineerr's point. I actually discovered a lot of good music when I was 25-30, especially Social Distortion and Rage Against the Machine. I did live a rather sheltered life as a kid, but when I was exposed to Rage at the age of 13 I didn't understand it. When I listened to punk rock at the age of 19, I thought it was childish. Once I lived a little, and experienced a few tragic things, certain kinds of music just resonated with me a lot more.
peshekee1 I'm certainly no stranger to tragedy myself, and really good music is always a major help with that in one's youth. It's easy to think of punk rock as being somewhat childish because it tends to be musically simple and there isn't much emphasis on being conventionally 'poetic' in the lyrics. Punk just tends to be an adolescent art form and it's written in a way that tends to convey an adolescent mindset. Nothing wrong with that--I love the stuff and I'm so glad that there are so many people that still play it when they're well into adulthood. The Offspring, Bad Religion and even Green Day are all still around in 2016, and the latter are known worldwide for putting on kickass shows at a stage in the game when most would have hung it up years ago :) Thing is, I'm almost 40 and the fact is that as an adult you're always better off making more money (or any at all) instead of sitting with the headphones on and listening to other people living their lives when you should be living yours. Just curious, do you write tunes/play an instrument?
this is like a short film of my life abandoned out in the streets hustling everything that crossed my path, a junkie till the bitter end 8 yrs in prison met a woman that satisfied the love i had in me that killed the rage i indulged. every time i look at her i feel that relief and think how she saved my life!! our first dates we played and sang along to every S.D. song and that was it... i wld die for her over and over. we plan to marry while blaating ange wings.Mike Ness an a little love i now love lifel
@ Did you come to this video looking for people who came from hard times trying to live good happy lives just to say that? Jees man id rather suffer a fulfilled life than live a life unfulfilled.
Looking back at my life via this song.. ive got all the scars, tattoos & broken hearts that go with it but we wouldnt be who we are now without all of the memories & mistakes! Mike is the man & actually a great guy to meet in person =)
It doesn't matter where I am in life or what's going on. I come back to this song and video and things become a lot clearer as life is put into perspective. The people we expose ourselves to serve a huge role in influencing who we are and how we see things; if we surround ourselves with good people, we become more like them and if we surround ourselves with garbage people... well, we only have ourselves to blame.
I have been listening to Social D since Prison Bound, still have the Triple X Cassette version lying around. 10 years later I got them tattooed on my arm. The only band logo I never covered up after all these years, and I don't plan to.
This song totally reminded me of my BF (now ex) and he agreed wholeheartedly and was amused by the similarities. The only difference is that he won't have a happy ending like this video because he doesn't want it. I think he likes being miserable with a chip on his shoulder and someone/something to rail against. I know there's comfort in familiarity (even if that familiarity is sadness or an addiction) but there comes a point where all you're doing is mutilating yourself beyond all recognition. I was being verbally abused and so sad. Not my circus, not my monkeys anymore haha! Still an A+++ song and one of my favorites.
Such a great band, great singer & absolutely great songwriter(s). I can't even put into words how perfect their music is. It's like he's taken the words straight from my soul. Not only "Lowdown", but soooooo many others too. God I LOVE Social D. One of THE BEST groups of all time! luvluvluv
the references to social d's other songs is crazy this video/song is the "story of my life" the "ball and chain" him taking all the women for granted "dont take me for granted" this song is also about bettering yourself "reach for the sky" the part when he does drugs "another state of mind" him being a bad boy "mommys little monster" him going to prison "prison bound" idk i could be seeing it all the wrong but whatever art is in the eye of the beholder right?
Correct me if i am wrong, but isn't "Another State of Mind" a love song? not only for a girl, as described in the song, but also the Punk lifestyle. It was written when they toured with Youth Brigade, and also filmed the documentary Another State of Mind.
Yes , but I don't think he is sending out his message litterly , it was how he lived his life , and overcame trials and tribulations. My guess. Rocks in my opinion.
The first time seeing this video makes me realize but I already knew it life will come to an end love the Lord and help everyone you can along the way.
The part with Grim Reaper and pulling out of the tunnel of death by Mike's guitar.... Cries, chills, shakes all over.... Jesus, so strong!
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve cried to this many times. Especially the end scene. And the lady even has a June Carter Cash tattoo, so she’s been through the same shit. Just fantastic.

Gimme The Sweet And Lowdown"
It was a moonlight mishap
You lost your party hat
Seems your lifestyle ain’t so worthwhile after all
A heavy-hearted taxi ride
Then a walk on the wild side
Did your guardian angel let you down?
Gonna lay low and play it straight
It’s time to rejuvenate
Gonna kick start your heart until you come around
I can tell you now; you’ve really gotten the blues
I can tell you now; that I’ve walked in your shoes

You’re maladjusted and now you’re busted once again
I can tell you now; it comes as no surprise
I can tell you now; by that look in your eyes
Gimme the sweet and lowdown
You’re looking kinda punch drunk
Cuz that’s the way you strut your stuff
With a swing and a swagger down the road you go

Even for an avid music listener, anyone can miss this masterpiece of a composition

Thanks a lot, Social Distortion. Your songs are my support and therapy. ❤️
Joey Ramone - Joe Strummer - Johnny Thunders - Hank Williams Sr. - Johnny Cash and the ones who go pretty fast are Sid and Johnny, Keith and Brian Jones and Iggy Pop with Johnny Thunders I think
I don't think Iggy is in it. These are all people that have passed.
Jack Cantillo Thank you Jack. Iggy is there. And "tattoos" heroes is not chosen to be there by the fact that they already passed.
Ok I can be wrong I saw Brian Jones my friend but if you can give me the time in the video that may help
Yes, Iggy is there where Brian.
@@jackcantillo Jonny Rotten didnt pass aswell
Been there, and what better band than Social to keep the spirit up. I have them to thank for so much greatness that came from getting out of years living on the wrong side of the railroad track.
Best video ever just hits so hard Its like seeing aspects of my life loved and It feels good that I wasn't the only one
Whether it’s dumb petty crime for no reason, suicidal thoughts, or loneliness creeping on us, he can make us wake back up into being the person we’re meant to be
This is at leat the 50iest time I try to watch this video till the end without crying....I failed again !!!
Saw Samhain touring for the first album when I was 12. Wolfsblood encore the highlight of the show. 150 people tops in the crowd.
Social distortion saving my day.
Perfect blend of raw and honest rock and roll for nearly 40 years...they carved out a sound all their own...with American punk rock and plain old Americana....a true giant of the game.
shit, i almost forget to listen this song today
pram wib almost 🤘🏽
HOW COULD U FORGET
Mike... If only u knew how many lives you saved.
Your are the best pal.
Not a huge Social D fan.
There are some great tubes they have done over the years, but for some of reason this one has me hooked.
All the musicians he played homage to superb.
yeah is awesome isnt it!! thats why i love this one!!
(TOTAL coincidence.... That I would find someone I know in the comments)
NJ Punks is what we are, Jack... I am glad we beat all demons that grabbed us and mistakenly thought they were stronger than us... more than that, I am proud that we are friends today.
Thank you Mike. From the bottom of my heart.
Im embarrased to call myself a huge social d fan and barely realizing today this song had a video. the ending is perfect just like in the album.
This is pretty much my favourite video for a song ever
Honestly one of the best music videos out there
Some times just the music and your experiencies saves your life ,
I owe so much to social d, if it wasn´t for social d and Mike Ness i´d probably be dead by now, this whole album has saved my ass sice I first listened to it
Not sure how music can do that, and I love the art form to death. Peace and rock on man
+BasementEngineer if you've never been affected by music to were it made you see the world differently you need to listen a little harder.
Just curious, do you write tunes/play an instrument?
one of the most underrated videos
I still listen to this song when I come back from my work.
this is like a short film of my life abandoned out in the streets hustling everything that crossed my path, a junkie till the bitter end 8 yrs in prison met a woman that satisfied the love i had in me that killed the rage i indulged. every time i look at her i feel that relief and think how she saved my life!! our first dates we played and sang along to every S.D. song and that was it... i wld die for her over and over. we plan to marry while blaating ange wings.Mike Ness an a little love i now love lifel
They're gonna marry while blaating ange wings. Gonna be beautiful
@ and you are one of many scourges of the world.
Unsympathetic.
@ Did you come to this video looking for people who came from hard times trying to live good happy lives just to say that? Jees man id rather suffer a fulfilled life than live a life unfulfilled.
That’s fucking tops brother I wish y’all love an happiness
Fucking cool man good on you turning your life around 👊
Looking back at my life via this song.. ive got all the scars, tattoos & broken hearts that go with it but we wouldnt be who we are now without all of the memories & mistakes!
Mike is the man & actually a great guy to meet in person =)
No dude, this is sorta the "Story of My Life"
Every time I come back to this video I cry... and trsut me, I never cry.
Spectacular video and song!
Thanks Mike !
the best video clip i ever seen
i discovered social d a few years ago and man them and godsmack got me through some rough times ty so much mike ness and suly erna
The metaphors in this video really hit home
I have been listening to Social D since Prison Bound, still have the Triple X Cassette version lying around. 10 years later I got them tattooed on my arm. The only band logo I never covered up after all these years, and I don't plan to.
this is best video .. and i always remeber
One of the best videos ever
Probably the coolest music video I've ever seen. Rock on Social Distortion.
Cool as fuck.
Mike Ness is one VERY amazing storyteller 👊🏼
One of our favorite bands...
Here 2024❤❤🎉
Still here 11.2024❤
Love the guitar & bass sound in this one. Gives a dead old stone heart some much-appreciated rock & roll chills :)
i love this video!!!! love this song!!!
Such a great band, great singer & absolutely great songwriter(s). I can't even put into words how perfect their music is. It's like he's taken the words straight from my soul. Not only "Lowdown", but soooooo many others too.
God I LOVE Social D. One of THE BEST groups of all time! luvluvluv
Better every time I watch it
Michael Neal hell yeah
I`m just wondering why TH-cam show me this afteer 10 years! This is a ready finished diamond!
Not that it isn't really obvious, but this has some *great* guitar in it!!
This song kicks ass ...love these guys
the references to social d's other songs is crazy this video/song is the "story of my life" the "ball and chain" him taking all the women for granted "dont take me for granted" this song is also about bettering yourself "reach for the sky" the part when he does drugs "another state of mind" him being a bad boy "mommys little monster" him going to prison "prison bound" idk i could be seeing it all the wrong but whatever art is in the eye of the beholder right?
I so agree, bc I lived that almost exact life, band n all. I have ball n chain tatted on me bc it's the story of my life. lol . good comment.
My guess. Rocks in my opinion.
idiot
my favorite musical video, this it's art. 🚬
This moment, a girl came in your life.. accept your past, and chase the darkness 🖤
