I am 64 years young. Heard a lot of great music over the years. Many different genres. I can always depend on SD to exorcise those counter productive emotions that arise within us all from time to time. The best video ever!
I also saw that tour, line up and it was my B day too boot. Berkeley Calif, Greek Theatre. opening was 'Overwhelming Colorfast', a local Antioch, Calif band. It was a Spectacular night. Fall weather 10-10-9?
+Mike Anderson . I also like the suble cues in the plot. This was a heist that went sour. You can grasp from the newspaper headline that they'd done prior robberies, but not a mass killing. "Sick Boy" is a grim and mean dude, he never sheds a tear, yet he's traumatized by flashbacks about the murders when he enters the barn at 4:21. Like in animation, where every cell matters - every camera shot in this video contributed to the story or the characters.
I never had a bucket list but I finally got to see Mike and the gang last year it’s probably the last concert I’ll ever see but I’ll die happy knowing that
Are you joking? A gang robs a bank and then gets shot by the cops later. Not exactly sure what constitutes a short film, but it needs more of a story than that...right?
So to get in the mood of my story focusing on a Punk Girl in 2008 LA, I started listening to some punk again and this is my first time seeing the video and the movie like idea caught me off guard
Cool detail: The detective(?) is carrying a M1903 Springfield. He's in his 30s, which means he would have likely been a WWI veteran. More than likely he would have carried that exact weapon in the trenches, and known it exceptionally well. It only had 5 in the magazine. He fired only 5 rounds, and appeared to hit center target in 4 out of the 5. First one into the engine block, second into the driver, third into Brent's character's chest, fourth appears to miss, fifth into Ness' character.
Good call....my dad was a gun dealer so it's cool to see someone else appreciate weaponry instead of bangin a 9 mil & thinking you're a "gangster" LOL The 1920's-50's REAL gangsters lived

My brother introduced me to social distortion, he invited me to a social D concert back in 1996 at the Hollywood palladium, I was 22 yrs & he was19. We both now 48 yrs & 46 yrs old. He bought me tix for tonight s show at the Belasco in Los Angeles. It's been 26 yrs since last time I've seen them. I'm so excited & feel young again. Can't wait 🤘🇺🇲💋. Thanks lil brother Sergio
Everyone who's saying these guys "aren't punk"...obviously, you don't really know their entire catalog and/or history about Social Distortion. Just because they aren't repetitive Bad Religion type of punk (still like you, BR) doesn't make them any less punk. They've obviously matured up since they've formed. Yeah, I actually prefer their material up to the 2000s (Sex, Love and Rock &Roll was honestly my least favorite album), but this one is kinda back-to-basic, sobering and definitely lives up to not just punk itself, but for who the band is. Just sayyinn..

My first punk show was Social Distortion....in 1989....me and my punker commrade....we took a greyhound.. from Laredo to SATX....I had a bomber in my pocket....and a sniffer dog came on the bus....kept my cool .....whatever.....West Ave... special events center ....my first punk show.... Crippled By Society....and Social Distortion.....there was a wooden barricade....and the nail points were not hammerd down....my friend Greg got his palm slashed good..not stitches.....but bloody....and the bouncers were pinche' mean with the kids......we Laredo kids 10 or so in all drank all nite with Dennis Danelle,(r.i.p.)....and John Mauer......at the motel.....most righteous intro to punk.1989.Mike was with a hot Texan groupie...but he was way cool after the show meet and greet.
The fact that this Social D. masterpiece isn't in Peaky Blinders season 6, which is a gangster drama that takes place in 1934, is truly sad. A soundtrack crime, to be honest.
I almost cried at the end, watching Mike "Sick Boy" Ness go out in a hail of gunfire. That wasn't a music video that was a story narrated by a damn good song.
I have clung to this music since 1995 like a drowning man clings to that life raft. I wept the first time I heard " Down Here With The Rest Of Us". I love Mike's solo albums. There is so much love poured into all of it. My life at one point was total and complete shit. I felt so defeated and so useless and so unloved and so broken. And through it all, I didn't have anything. But I did have those records, and I would just drink and play them. I have the same reverence for Mike Ness that I hold for Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison.
That's how I'm feeling now, my life isn't going well but I'm trying to fix it...Mike's music and lyrics are helping me a lot. I'm also learning guitar, it's like therapy for me. I'm glad to hear you are doing better now.
This is SOOO well done. Even better than most movies about the era. I must have watched it at least half a hundred times. The very definition of badass backed by an absolute killer track. Perfectly captures the midwestern armed bank robber craze of the late 1920's. Bonnie and Clyde being the most famous example. As an enthusiast of the era, I just love the attention to detail. Especially that Ness is wearing gloves. You see so many Tommy gun scenes without them and those suckers ran HOT! They would fry your hands if you didn't have them. Kudos SD. Superb work on this!

I just heard the intro. to this song on the 1920's radio, and said, wait I know this song!!! Shazamed it, and sure as shit it was a song from 1931, Annette Hanshaw- Walkin' My Baby Back Home. Enjoy!
i saw these guys at the metropolis in montreal for my bday last week, it was a great gift from a special friend throughout the years thanx marty, thanx social distorion ... and it burns,burns,burns......................................................................
That's probably the best music video I've seen literally in the last 12 plus years. Like someone else said before, Thank god for Mike Ness and Social D for keeping Punk Rock alive these days
This song was played on a sons of anarchy episode ( No wonder it sounded so familiar when I 1st heard it on youtube ) and it was a very fitting song for that episode . . . . .I totally LOVE this band, they can do no wrong in my eyes . . . : ))
Well I'm a gangster 1934 Junkies, Winos, Pimps & Whores And all you men, women and kids best get out the way I just left your town, took all your loot, bought a pink carnation and a pinstripe suit, a hopped-up V8 Ford and some two-tone shoes And I'm already gone, I like the pool of the blood and sorrow, I've got the Machine Gun Blues I'll be outta of here for the break of dawn, I'll hit the highway, smoke a big cigar, got to stop and bury the cash, then get some more There's only one thing on my mind, that's making it across that ol' state line, but I've a hell of avenging bullets, waiting there for me And I'm already gone, I've left a path of pure destruction, I've got the Machine Gun Blues I'm already gone, my life will soon be through, I've got the Machine Gun Blues I'm public enemy #1 I'm sorry for all the things that I've done If indeed we do cross path, it's nothing personal And I'm already gone, I've left a trail of devastation, I've got the Machine Gun Blues I'm already gone, my life will soon be through, I've got the Machine Gun Blues
Whahaha....cool to see that Mikes machinegun fits completely in the Guitar case (1:50) but when he opens it (1:57) the butt sticks out.... hahaha.... #Details But further on.... Social D is an fucking awsome band..... The helped me through a lot.... An we played SD at our wedding ceremony
of all the albums that Social Distortion has released through the years, I am most taken with Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes....I bought it initially thinking that it would be a "middle of the road" CD that most artists make at this point in their career trajectory, but I instantly found a couple of songs that I liked out of the gate and from that point, it just got better and better. Now roughly three months since buying the CD, if it's possible to wear grooves in a CD, I have done it...
My best friend took me to there concert in Munich, hadn't known them before, always listended to old-school rockabilly. Was great, hope they come back again, i will be there. :)
Love SD and this song is amazing and the details of the video and everything is amazing work from Mike and the band and Dave and Brent have a single barrel shotgun and Johnny has two hand pistols which are 9 milliner and Mike with the classic Tommy Gun
"Fucking Amazing" is the only thing to say. The guns are realistic and amazing. They had all the good ones, model 189 shot gun, 1903 spring field, 1928 Thomson, 1911 colt, and 38 revolver
Joseph Damiano Do you even fucking math, 7 in the mag, one in the chamber, that'd be 8. But you're wrong in that regard anyways, it's 8 in the mag, one in the chamber, 9 rounds total.
SD has been my favorite band since 1998 when I was 20 and now 2022 at 43 still loving them. Even my 6 yr and 9 yr old sons love to jam this song with me they play drum and bass, I play guitar. Mike Ness is a legend.
That was some good shit... kinda proves that smaller labels can still put out good videos, and this is exactly what I'd imagine a video written by Mike Ness would be. Mike's sure lookin old, but he's still a punk rock god with style his own. Hope Social D keeps puttin new shit out for many more years, even when Mike's sittin in a rocking-chair playin his guitar.
Song reminds me of my dad. Rip dad. We used to jam to this HARD. Saw social D live at prudential center in NJ. Anyone remember what year that was??! Dang. 😢😢 song gets me every time
Mike Ness ur legend along with the band and don't you ever think we ain't got you motherfkn backs guys we love yous.... Thank for all them rockabillies tunes, there never be a band that stands the test of times like you boys. Thanks fellas!!!.
+Sigh Naps . Definately - so many little details in this fit together, right down to the gunsmoke hanging in the room at 3:38. The direction and camera angles were excellent, plus filming this at Union Station really helped set the 30s L.A. ambiance. The video not only tells a story but shows some complexity in Ness's character and the shoeshine boy. As horrible as the crime scene was, the boy wouldn't be a witness - so we get to wonder why. Fear of retribution by the gangsters? Or maybe some sense that Ness's character wasn't 100% rotten, since the boy saw the other gangsters open fire on the customers and employees which began the mayhem...further complicated by seeing Ness duel with the soldier, and then sparing the man's wife, who walked in at the end. Dunno if Ness ever had any acting offers - but he was a badass gangster in this video! His own character is interesting too. You can sense at 3:11 he didn't want this heist to get so far out of control, and he's haunted by it later in the barn scene. Even studying the confrontation with the soldier, Ness waited for him to shoot first, and had tried to warn him off with that "head shake". And to top it off, I'd say that the other band members pulled their weight too, during their own cutaway scenes. They looked their parts and helped carry the story.
That is some solid rock there. Not their best but damned good. I'd pretty much given up hope for a new able ever coming out from them and just saw this off to the side while watching something else. Love the video too.
1st saw Soc.D in 1986 someplace in so.Cal near Hermosa,. I wish I knew the name of that little hole in the wall. It alludes me. I was 17, and not from " " North a ways near S.F. seen em several more times now and it's always an epic show.
that guy with the bolt action rifle and black coat is a badass! 1 shot 1 kill. if you listen close enough, you can hear his balls clanging together. lol probably the best music video/short film ive seen.
There's no fucking way Social Distortion would ever consider that money grubbing palace of bullshit aliasly known as the R&R hall of shame. Those boys are too good for that.
I am 64 years young. Heard a lot of great music over the years. Many different genres. I can always depend on SD to exorcise those counter productive emotions that arise within us all from time to time. The best video ever!

Saw these guys open up for the Ramones when I was 15. 25 years later and seeing them 8 more times and they are still my favorite band...

Mike Ness is a legend, deeply under appreciated for his talents. He's a lot like Johnny Cash with a splash of punk rock.

that's making it across that ol' state line,
but I've a hell of avenging bullets,
waiting there for me
And I'm already gone, I've left a path of pure destruction,
I've got the Machine Gun Blues
I'm already gone, my life will soon be through,
I've got the Machine Gun Blues
I'm public enemy #1
I'm sorry for all the things that I've done
If indeed we do cross path, it's nothing personal
And I'm already gone, I've left a trail of devastation,
I've got the Machine Gun Blues
I'm already gone, my life will soon be through,
I've got the Machine Gun Blues
left a pool
Social distortion are to talented and sincere for mtv
One bad ass video from my favorite band for over 20 YEARS
This is the best, THE BEST, music video that has been and will ever be made.
Whahaha....cool to see that Mikes machinegun fits completely in the Guitar case (1:50) but when he opens it (1:57) the butt sticks out.... hahaha.... #Details
But further on.... Social D is an fucking awsome band..... The helped me through a lot.... An we played SD at our wedding ceremony
You played SD at your wedding ceremony? Wow. You got my respect...
of all the albums that Social Distortion has released through the years, I am most taken with Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes....I bought it initially thinking that it would be a "middle of the road" CD that most artists make at this point in their career trajectory, but I instantly found a couple of songs that I liked out of the gate and from that point, it just got better and better. Now roughly three months since buying the CD, if it's possible to wear grooves in a CD, I have done it...
This is the best music video ever.
Mike ness is a legend one of my favorite musicians of all times
"Fucking Amazing" is the only thing to say. The guns are realistic and amazing. They had all the good ones, model 189 shot gun, 1903 spring field, 1928 Thomson, 1911 colt, and 38 revolver
Agreed! That 1903 Springfield is one hell of a rifle too.
hell fuckin ya. M1903a3 and a4 Springfield rifles rock-fat-ass-hard.o do M1garands
next to you know...the 1911's shooting none stop when they only hold 9 a pop...
dragoncustomcycles They actually hold 7 in a magazine and one in the chamber. So it's 7 a pop.
Joseph Damiano Do you even fucking math, 7 in the mag, one in the chamber, that'd be 8. But you're wrong in that regard anyways, it's 8 in the mag, one in the chamber, 9 rounds total.
Social Distortion!! 13's always been my number
still
1979, the band was born and this is one of their best songs and then the video.
SD has been my favorite band since 1998 when I was 20 and now 2022 at 43 still loving them. Even my 6 yr and 9 yr old sons love to jam this song with me they play drum and bass, I play guitar. Mike Ness is a legend.
beyond brilliant --- any city, any country, any planet !!!
Hands down one of the best music videos I've ever seen, damn..
This song always makes me think of Sons of Anarchy. Love this song.
Love you.❤
best music video ever
The song is ok, but the video is top notch. Kudos to their costumes team and their director. Very well done.
I love this band so much
This is one of the coolest music videos out there, hands down
No comment other than Social D. Is a great band and Mike Ness is superb
Everyone here arguing if these guys are punk or not and I'm just here like "can we all just shut the fuck up and enjoy the music lol"
+Evolutionizer "I can't enjoy it without a proper label!!!" sigh. Agreed.
+Evolutionizer . I get sick and tired of the hundreds of genres and sub-genres. It's all rock n roll to me.
+C. Parks lol so for you anarcho-punk is just punk aaa?=)))dafuq=)))))))))
+C. Parks punk like many other genre is much better to know subgenres if you wanna get into some bands from horror-punk or other kind of subgenres
+Evolutionizer its a happy californian punk style
Best video and song I’ve seen/heard in long time. Ness punching a conservative brought me back here today.
Hands down the most badass band!
Yeah, getting pretty rare in these. It shows u both the good and bad
HOLY SHIT!!!! That was the darkest most intense video I have ever seen!!!!!!!! Love the guy in the end, one well aimed round one kill Sir!! DAMN!!!!
The band were the best actors in this.
Greatest band ever!
That is some solid rock there. Not their best but damned good. I'd pretty much given up hope for a new able ever coming out from them and just saw this off to the side while watching something else. Love the video too.
probobly one of the best music videos ive ever seen
1st saw Soc.D in 1986 someplace in so.Cal near Hermosa,. I wish I knew the name of that little hole in the wall. It alludes me. I was 17, and not from " " North a ways near S.F. seen em several more times now and it's always an epic show.
mike ness is one of the reasons im still alive...
Him and John Fogerty are American Icons and im an Eastern Canadian LoL
that guy with the bolt action rifle and black coat is a badass! 1 shot 1 kill.
if you listen close enough, you can hear his balls clanging together. lol
probably the best music video/short film ive seen.
Ikr. Dude had zero compunction about what needed to be done. He just did his job, clean and simple.

@@ruseter84 sweet
Watch out the globes on you....
This is by far, my favourite music video ever
This has to be one of the most epic music videos I have seen
Damn i want to play Mafia II after this song.....
Sickest band ever
It's not hard when the labels aren't pressuring you to write an album that's essentially one long song.
i couldn't believe SD came out with a new album when i heard this song on the radio......i almost crashed my Jeep, delirious with joy.....
ive been into this band since PRISON BOUND album and mike ness has never let me down.
true canidates for RandR hall of fame!
There's no fucking way Social Distortion would ever consider that money grubbing palace of bullshit aliasly known as the R&R hall of shame. Those boys are too good for that.
beyond great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
