Yes, the 90’s HW was lit also.
The buzz and Hype around all those huge matchups at all the weight classes, society seemed happier, and these big fight nights, when I watched it felt like I was in Vegas whenever the ring announcers introduced the fighters.
The World is a different place now, i’m always grateful to have been able to experience what it was like to live in that era.

Light on his feet and loose in the shoulders. One of the most fluid fighters in that era. Hearns was an artist. Training to fight Tommy Hearns so you train to counter a guy boxing long, being careful of the straight right hand in particular etc. The genius Emmanuel Steward has Hearns instead practising looping inside shots -- shots that he can still put that long frame into but shots that the opponents aren't really training for. Hearns was an absolute weapon of a man and trained by a genius.

right. The best did both. Tommy was a very fluid Boxer. He Boxed beautifully. He had that "Float".When it came time to planting his feet and banging, he had that too. It was his Heart that was ultimately his own double edged sword. If Tommy refrained from Firefights and kept guys like Marvin and Ray on the end of that stick and Boxed it may have served him well. Hell of a Fighter and personality. A Good Guy. I met him in Bullocks in Beverly Hills shopping one day/. Rolls Royce and 2 very Big Fellows by his side. Tommy dressed in all brown silk with Gold Chains and Watch. I wasn't an Autograph Hound and never made a fuss around the talent, but i asked Tommy for his very nicely. An intimidating presence to say the least but all class. I'm glad i never had to fight or even spar with him..

As a boxing trainer it allows me to use my hands without having to take of gloves all the time.
In my day of fighting and all the way back actually we were taught to keep an open hand until impact so these gloves allow you to keep open fist easier than todays gloves which no longer use horsehair but modern foams which make gloves tighter and harder to relax hands. • @SPIDERM0OSE
      @SPIDERM0OSE 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Who tries to tell you that ?!
The difference is in HOW they hit pads.
Pads were used to polish SPECIFIC combinations & sequences that the coach identified would work on a SPECIFIC opponent.
They DIDNT hit pads for the cameras like Mayweather does & they didnt hit pads for a cardio workout, they used the pade to polish fight specific technique & tactics,
So if anyone who knows anything says they didnt hit pads back in the day, thats what they mean, they didnt hit pads for fun.

They operated at a more intense, more unforgiving level. They didn't mess around or play about, everything was measured & everything they did was for a reason & that reason was ... MONEY.
Not everybody made enough from the sport to retire & live comfortably on, like even journeymen can today.
It was cut throat & only the best of the best held titles & only the best of the best title holders made the BIG bucks.
If they weren't training for a specific opponent the coach would take em on the pads to work on something he saw they were slippin on or were weak at. If everything was ticking along nicely there was no need to use em so they wouldn't, they would work on something else instead.

Tommy was remarkably fleet footed for someone so tall at his weight. Anyone looking to get into boxing should watch him move

This video is gold. For years I wondered if there is any footage of Hearns hitting the heavy bag, and now here it is! Tramendous puncher, right hand was dynamite! I think his biggest mistake was not using his (great) left hook.

Hearns if I had to describe him to the younger generation who never saw him I’d say ....
he’s a Welterweight to Super Middleweight (maybe even LHW) version of D. Wilder but with a much higher skill level than Wilder has ever had.
At 6’2” with a 78” reach he was taller and longer than most all of his opponents. Other than his losses vs SRL and Hagler the rest could be from staying in the game too long and or moving up in weight classes too quickly.
    Probably my favorite Boxer ever.

A great king of boxing in the 1980s that could switch styles like orthodox and southpaw like most 80s boxers he would beat some of the boxers of today like the overweight tyson fury who didn,t earn a championship like the thomas hearns of yesterdays vintage hero,s of the flamboyant 1980s

The biggest thing about Emanuel Steward was his death was such a shock. I was waiting for his next fight commentary and the next thing you know he had passed. As a boxing fan since the 80s it really moved me. I even ordered one of his yellow Kronk t-shirts about 10 years prior to his death and it came right from Detroit from his wife who return addressed the package. What can you say about Emanuel and Tommy? If Tommy hadn't broken his had against Hagler, not saying he would have won but imagine the additional damage he could have inflicted. That fight was massive - remember Hagler's Pizza Hut commercial after the win?

Great to see! To me, the best of the 4 Kings..moved all way up to light heavy weight and beat an undefeated champion Virgil Hill. Redeemed loss to more experienced Sugar Ray with fight in 1989, which was deemed a draw, crushed the never before Duran in 2 rounds. His loss to Hagler, just showed how great Hagler was. Bit Hagler refused a rematch. I think Tommy would've beaten Hagler in rematch with learning from his loss. He showed that when he beat Juan Roldan to tried to rush Hearns like Hagler did and Hagler was diminishing in skills too, which is what Ray capitalized on. Thanks for this post!
