- Apologies for the long delay in posting. I was excited to explore Fiji and put out more videos shortly after fixing my engine, but my health took a turn for the worst forcing me to come home. I'm fine now, and will head back to Hooligan as soon as some more critical boat parts arrive. Thanks for your patience, and special thanks to my patreons for supporting the channel.

Listen man, I clicked this the second I saw it. You don't need to force yourself to maintain a schedule when it comes to adventure. You can't put a timeline to an adventure because you can't schedule the fun that you will face from venturing out. I subscribed to your videos because I like your content, not because you have weekly uploads. Take whatever time you need to get rested, and we all appreciate you sharing your adventure with us, whenever you can!

I hope the future will bring you more pleasant experiences. To think that a few hundred years ago people would sail all over the globe on wind alone. Imagine the planning, with limited technology and charts, to manage around for the periods of no wind.

Hi Garrett, Welcome to Savusavu! I'm sorry you have had the Savusavu Hospital experience. We've actually been doing the place up recently, so it could have been worse! I came in on a sailboat from NZ with no engine so can relate somewhat. I hope when you get back to Savusavu you have a very positive stay and you do get a chance to expore this beautiful country. I have to say I watched you videos from Hawaii to French Polynesian islands! Your mechanical abilities and knowledge of sailing at your age is very impressive! Watched the one from a few days ago when you were taking about all the repairs your doing in port. Just wow man! Once again your abilities and knowledge about your boat and repairs is just amazing! Sorry you got so sick but not sleeping will totally mess with your bodies defences. Sounds like you need a rebuild but you have also logged a lot of miles. Hooligan will be fixed up in no time
No engines are needed to sail. Wind is all we need. I had already 4 sailboats, 3 of them were wooden vessels, never had an engine, never had engine problems. Thank you man for sharing with us.
"No engines are needed to sail." Well, tell me just how you would cross the equatorial doldrums, the ITZT, when there is not even a puff of wind for weeks at a time.

@@mikeg.176 by sail, as I have been doing for decades now. There's always an excuse for why people do what they do. For using an engine is not different. People will always give excuses on why to use it. But I keep telling you, can be done without it. Is just about not been lazy, been a real sailor, and know how to not be stuck for weeks at the doldrums.
I find it hard to believe you’ve been sailing offshore for “decades” with no engine.

Sorry to hear about the health scare. From the context, it seems as if you're doing better. Hopefully so. I'm a diesel mechanic and wish I could somehow teleport through the screen and attempt to fix the engine. Maybe in another few decades or so, haha.

I understand that you are not provisioned to wait for so long for the wind, but as a newb who is watching this, it is fun to see someone try to do the majority under wind power. Not to criticize using a motor, but fun to see a sailing channel that relies on wind.

No matter how old you are your health is the most important. Take care of it. Stuff we do not pay attention to when we are young comes back later if life when we do not have youth on our side. So health first. It was probably good for you to see your family as well. So go back to your life on the boat when you are vibrant and healthy.

i actually just missed getting to buy a Catalina 25 pop top for $400. was supposed to go to a boat auction, but health insurance bs got in the way and i missed it.
and no one bid on the Catalina 25 cuz theyy were waiting for a Catalina 30 and a couple other boats. super bummed about missing that opportunity.
if i had been able to make it there i was thinking i would setup a sculling oar instead of dealing with an engine.
it would mean just having to deal with days with no wind, and possibly some scary moments when trying to anchor or pull up to a dock on windy days, but the money saved, having 1 less thing that can break. and not having to carry a bunch of spare parts for it...

The coral coast one of my favorite places in the world . perfect place to rebuild Hooligan Pacific Harbour will be a blessing some amazing folks in the marina . if u need to blow off some stress some great surf in the area your dingy will be perfect .. take care of yourself good your health is back its easy to get sick traveling south Pacific ... and by all means stay out of Suva nothing u want in that place .. BULA VANAKA !! from the Big Island of Hawaii

I believe you’d go from Canada to Japan, but I’m not certain. I haven’t done much research in that stretch of the ocean and I only know for sure they go the other way.
@@garrettsadventure yeah! There’s a really interesting story behind how the US made diplomatic contact with Japan. A Japanese fishing vessel broke down and drifted to California. The sailors ended up learning English, and later became the translators for the first US visit to Japan. Then, some years later, Japan sent an envoy to San Francisco. There’s tons of photos of it! It’s really wild history.

One plus is that the mechanics in Fiji are much cheaper than in the states
@@garrettsadventure Might check into cheaper tradesman prices while there, like getting a pivoting outboard mount made or someone fabricating an arch to hold more solar and give you some cockpit shade, especially if you're going to hang out for an extended time there. Best thoughts on your getting well and back into your adventure ASAP!
