    This is something that I'm taking into heart with me making my indie games:
    "Make games that YOU WANT to make. DON'T make games that you THINK will sell."
    That was a quote from a TH-cam group named the Gaming Wildlife in one of their "If a company was 100% honest" series of videos.

    • @mr_indie_fan
      @mr_indie_fan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same. All of my game ideas are games i want to make, im not worried about money, i just want to bring my ideas to life.
      and besides I've got a plan to cover the lack of money problem (not microtransactions or anything stupid like that though)

    I think it's a bit of a stretch to say "it's not that hard to make a 100 grand off of a game" without any context (maybe the full podcast expands upon it?)

      have a TH-cam channel making videos every day + have a ton of followers + be an experienced artist + make a game for PewDiePie
      Than it's probably not that hard ...

    As a gamedev, i do agree that using a formala that already works for a game is very important, especially if you are working alone, making something never done before can be very challenging

      I think Ryan Clark (Crypt of Necrodancer) has said similar things about your game needing a hook and the trailer should show you hook and gameplay right away
      Also The First Tree developer has talked about making your game gif-able as well.

    I've been saying the same thing about competing with other big AAA games. (6:04) My solo butt cannot compete with big fps games like Doom or COD. And every non-dev player says, "it's like Doom, make it a Doom game." That's the worst thing I could do to my project. They want Fast and Furious shooters, I'm trying to make X-Files adventure.

  • @MrTweedg87
    @MrTweedg87 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great insight guys, im studying game design and we had the head of Dread Hunger as our mentor. He said similar things along the line of. You can’t compete with the big AAA so find that little niche thing. He used the example of portal, back when it was just a rough game mechanic.

    • @MrTweedg87
      @MrTweedg87 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And also talked about his failure with trying to make a battle royal which he was not all that passionate/knowledgeable about the genre.

    • @mr_indie_fan
      @mr_indie_fan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With how shitty triple a games are in modern day, i believe many indie games are already competing with the big AAA.
      Stray is a good example.

    Today, AAA games are not a guarantee that you will get a positive gaming experience. Not at all. Today it is easier to find a good and sincere Indie game than a really worthy project from top studios.

    • @Zodiacman16
      @Zodiacman16 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ehhh... a positive experience has never been guaranteed from AAA. That said there are certain franchises that you can guarantee a good experience from if that franchise appeals to you.

      I've said the same: *most* triple a companies chase trends and fill their games with microtransactions, bad gameplay, bad characters, realistic visuals for no reason, bland everything and lets not forget identity politics.
