Just wanted to come by and say thanks for your video. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out a way to beat Metroid under an hour and with your help, I finally did it! Only 34 years late, haha
Thank you for the route. I followed it and got my sub hour! When I saw that you could do this under an hour back in Nintendo Power all those years ago I never imagined I'd actually do it myself.
Wow man this was really awesome. I bet this game when I was a kid but it took me for ever. I try to draw maps but it just confused me even more. Thank you for the video
Yeah, I'm sure there are better ways to beat him, but I came up with that strategy on my own so I'm quite fond of it. It's definitely much better than doing it the "normal" way.
Congrats! It really just takes practice. I remember when I first set out to beat this game I ended up becoming a bit obsessed & I played it over & over for a week. By the end of the week I was able to reliably beat it in under an hour without save states.
I don't know if I'm the only one that did this but instead of fighting Kraid first I go for Ridley while I pick up the necessary upgrades on my way. The fight for me is all rng with the fireballs so I sometimes struggle with little to no health. After I defeated Ridley I proceed to get a game over only then to head towards Kraid then defeat him and get a game over. And before I head towards Tourian I'm already close to the beginning of the game with only 30 health and I don't wanna take any chances on dying so I go back to the previous room (The one where you have to use the morph ball to pass) and I freeze one of the flying aliens to get a hidden health tank. I don't know if my way is a huge time saver but I'm used on doing my speed runs that way.
Farming for missiles before red doors makes this game so frustrating. I just spent probably 20 minutes not getting any missiles in the room before ice beam.
@@EmptyGarbageCan I can't do it. I just can't. I tried doing what you did here, and couldn't even make it past 14:46. Having to grind for health and missiles every time you die just makes the game way too punishing to play without cheat codes.
@@SabeNo-rh7mb The jump leading to 14:46 is a bit tricky. It's made worse when you're trying to do it for the first time & you're super nervous & you don't have a feel for that move yet. I wish I had a better way to get to that door, but unfortunately the method I use there is more reliable. This game is definitely more enjoyable if you're playing it on something that allows you to make save states.
@@EmptyGarbageCan It ain't the jump that kept killing me, it was the enemies. 14:26 These losers do 20 units of damage on contact. And remind me again, how much health do you start off with every time you respawn from death? It's the biggest reason I've never once beaten this game legitimately. Because, without cheat codes, it's barely playable. Being forced to grind for health every time you die gives the impression that the game is actively punishing you for not being good enough. Not that long ago, I played and beat Prime on hard mode (with a keyboard), and even *THAT* seemed way easier compared to this game.
@@SabeNo-rh7mb I don't know if you've tried this yet, but one thing that might help some is if you look for all of the Missile Upgrades. That way even if you have low health you can use all the extra missiles to more easily kill enemies before they take out what little life you have.
@@leGUIGUI I want to thank you for asking. I can sometimes be convinced to make videos if people request them. In this particular case, however, the amount of time & effort I would have to spend to 100% this game in under an hour seems like it would be way too much. I would prefer to put that time & effort into doing a new walkthrough for a different game.
Originally I was going to, but then the Reignited Trilogy was announced. Now that Reignited is out I feel like most people who will need a walkthrough of Ripto's Rage will want a walkthrough of the Reignited version not the original version. As I don't own the Reignited Trilogy I can't do a walkthrough for that version of the game, but doing a walkthrough of the original seems like it might be a waste of time if nobody wants it.
Ok, please give me a video link how to configure the emulator PS2 and then this emulator does not work. I configured this emulator completely but it still doesn't work.
Sorry I can't really help with that. I don't know of any videos that show how to configure PS2 emulators & I haven't made any videos like that myself. There are several PS2 emulators & how each emulator should be configured depends on a number of factors like what you're using it on, what your graphics card is, etc. so even if I knew of a video I could show you it probably wouldn't help anyway.
@@CNMNbun I can't think of any good reason for why you could only have 15 in your inventory. Unless that is some weird anti-piracy thing Metroid had (which I doubt). But in this day and age that really wouldn't be something you would run into. I don't have much advice to help you. Try starting the game over & see if that fixes it maybe?
As far as actually recording the walkthrough I don't remember. It took longer to record than if I was simply beating it in under an hour for my own enjoyment as I wanted it to be reasonably clean (i.e. not having to spend too much time farming for missiles). I should point out though that this video isn't actually one, unbroken playthrough of the game. Instead I recorded sections of the game to my satisfaction and then spliced the parts together. Because the missile drop rate is so unreliable I decided to use save states while recording so that if I felt the enemies weren't being cooperative when it came to dropping missiles I could simply jump back to an earlier point in the game if necessary & replay that section. This way I didn't have to worry about having to start the walkthrough all over again just because the missile drops weren't great at one part. I chose to do it this way rather than just doing it all in one go because I knew you guys were going to be watching this video for help & I didn't want to waste your time by making you watch me farm for missiles more than was necessary.
I'm not nearly familiar enough with that game to do a walkthrough of it. I remember playing Season of Ice when it first came out, but I don't know if I ever even beat it.
You could save in the Japanese version of the game, but not in the US/PAL versions. In those versions passcodes were used instead. You get a passcode after you die. These can be seen in this video when I kill myself after the Ridley and Kraid fights.
I tested this out a bit & it seems the time counter does stop while the game is paused. I only did a quick test, however, so I can't guarantee it in fact does stop.
Sure I know speedrunning. I made no attempt at doing a speedrun when making this video (especially considering this video wasn't made using only 1 take). My focus was on doing a reliable walkthrough for the average player showing how get the best ending.
Hey it works & it cuts down on time. Having said that it's not the fastest way. The better way to do it is to pause the game &, with controller 2, press Up+A. This takes you to the password screen & then to the start of the area you reset in. Doing it that way isn't so obvious in the video though whereas killing myself is easily understood which is why I did it that way.

Wow, this is straight up mesmerizing! Awesome walk through. You clearly are highly skilled at this game. Bravo!
Thanks! I found myself obsessed with the game for a week & during that time I kept playing it over & over.
@@EmptyGarbageCan very cool! Incredibly impressive and I may use this to beat the game myself. Cheers and have a great day!
@@ChicagoRetroGamer I hope you do! After all that's what the video is there for. I hope you have a great day, too!
I beat the game with this
Cool

freezing the spike and putting your back to it to kill kraid was god tier, i fucking hate fighting him normally

I can’t imagine how long it would take to beat this without save states.... just beat it this week and whoa.

So useful helped me get all the items

Yeah, the farming is one of my least favorite aspects of the game. Especially the farming before the fight with Kraid.

Bro your a beast
Beat the game last night first try less and an hour start to finish no deaths.
I did it a bit differently than this route however.
Any chance you might do a 100% one? Still in less than an hour?
Absolutely not. I enjoy the original Metroid, but not enough to put myself through that.
