Progression de l'infanterie et des blindés américains appartenant à la 2nd Armored Division dans le secteur de Saint-Jean-de-Daye (où les chars Sherman sont équipés - sous les yeux du Brigadier General Isaac D. White - Command Combat A - de lames facilitant le franchissement des haies - dispositif Hedge Cutter) et de Pont-Hébert (où l'on peut voir le Brigadier General Maurice Rose - Command Combat B.
Le sergent Curtis G. Culin, 2nd Armored Division, a proposé de fixer à l'avant du Sherman des lames de métal permettant d'arracher les pieds des haies et facilitant ainsi la progression à travers le bocage. Ces lames sont notamment conçues à partir des obstacles de plage dispersés par les Allemands avant le débarquement, en particulier le "hérisson tchèque" : des centaines sont rassemblés et transformés, cette matière première ne manque pas en Normandie !

Sergeant Curtis G. Culin, 2nd Armored Division, proposed to set metal strips at the front of the Sherman tanks. These blades are especially designed from the beach obstacles used by the Germans, in particular the "Czech Hedgehog": this raw material is not rare in Normandy!
