Fascinating tour of Stow - beautiful, historic and unspoiled. Stow station also serves outlying areas, including Lauder, Fountainhalls and Clovenfords. When the Borders railway reopening was planned, there was no proposal for a station at Stow, but thanks to a campaign by Stow Station Supporters' Group, it was eventually included.

Thanks for watching. I'm so glad that the SSSG people managed to succeed in getting the station.

I wonder if this was filmed before the wonderful bookshop opened - Wedale Bookshop, well worth a trip to Stow even just to visit there 😊

Although in the heart of the Borders, Stow was in Midlothian until the mid-1970s. The village, including the Bishop's Palace, was part of the diocese of St Andrews, which included Midlothian, and its parish straddled two counties - Midlothian and Selkirkshire. It became part of Selkirkshire, and the Borders, in 1975 following local government reorganisation.

As someone who actually lives here, the train is very handy to have! I used to use it when i lived at home with family and i use it on the regular now i live in the village! They recently updated the frequency of the trains which is appreciated 😂

Maybe there is a reason why most ScotRail trains do skip past Stow as the station itself serves the small Scottish village. Just like villages in the UK that have railway stations and not all trains do stop and serve villages and small towns.

When the Borders railway reopened only 50% of the trains stopped at Stow. Now ALL of them do. My question was more about why is there a station in such a small town - and I hope the video shows why. Because it’s a must visit place. 😀

Stow is a village, also called Stow of Wedale and it has a very nice packhorse bridge across the road from the church.I have travelled through it so many times in the car although I've never stopped there. I am travelling through it again tomorrow in fact on the way to England. The station also serves Lauder which is 5 miles away. It has a very impressive 2tph train service now for such a small village which has only been increased from 1tph recently. The Borders railway has been so well used that the X95 has actually been cut to every 2hours now. There seem to be very limited public transport options from Stow apart from the train.
