- Anyone who's played Nintendo's "StarFox 64" and seen Roland Emmerich's 1996 blockbuster "Independence Day" would've most likely recognized the obvious homage to the movie in the level "Katina".
It has the huge spaceship, the alien fighters, the giant turquoise death ray, and the vital groundbase that is about to be nuked by aforementioned death ray.
The only thing missing was Randy Quaid's awesome kamikaze attack. - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน

When I was very young, this level really does reminds me of " Independence Day" . This movie actually came out around the some time this game came out.
It was based on that actually. So was the end credits theme.

Awww, brought back so many memories from my childhood. I miss those days: I'd hurry home from school, play StarFox 64, try to get every mission accomplished, kill Andross, and I'd even watch Independence Day on VHS. Awww, VHS brings back so many memories....
Considering he did something similar in starfox assault I would see this happening

The first time I got to Katina, I had figured it out, had one wing broken, and no bombs left.
The counter was JUST about to hit zero, but I won..... by ramming my arwing right into the core!

That Starfox 64 battle scene would have been truly epic if Slippy had kamikazed the mothership just like in the movie!

I'm confused why you guys are talking about slippy while peppy just fucking Kamikazes Himself again.
Probably would make more sense if it was a new team member exclusive to 64 somehow that did the sacrifice instead. Since we all know that once a team member dies, they are dead for real.
So remember: if your a pilot and you blow up, you'll just go to the docking bay!

Fun fact, the President of the United States in the movie Independence Day (who also flies a jet in the movie), is played by Bill Pullman. I've heard many times that this level was made as a homage to the movie, I wonder if the character name was as well?

64 would've been alot better with this as a game feature... then it turns out that peppy is still alive on Katina, and has been surviving for years there.
peppy probably survives because let's face in 64 we don't even know if he's fit to fly a plane and considering how he escaped andross the first time he'll probably find a way to live

I first viewed this video when I was first playing the original Super NES game. I hadn't touched 64 yet. Now knowing they don't die in 64.... this video has a less effect now then I saw it before.

I played Star Fox 64 when it came out and even back then during this mission I thought the exact thing. It was alittle too much like the movie Independence Day. Oh and great job on "Peppy's Ship is in the docking bay." considering your partners never get killed only Fox dies.

actually, at the time I'd played this game I wasn't old enough to watch 'Independence Day', so no, I didn't see the reference until I watched this.
