my seniority let me work a pretty big chunk of railroad, pretty much boston across to cleveland, both routes south out of selkirk and the line from syracuse to massena, but working all of them would require alot of qualifying and moving around. all in all i spent about half my time on the hudson line and half my time on the river line. i hired out of oak point, worked out of selkirk for a while and ended up working out of north jersey. worked evry yard in between too. croton was the best.
Hey dumbbuff, you are the best engineer what ever i`ve seen, everywhere in your all videos you have fun,you are the best man :D,5* for you, greets from europe ;)
Now thats funny gotta have fun at work somehow. Nice video, had to read through and watch it a couple of times to fully understand what you were saying. Too bad the railroads do that to their employees.
dumbbuff quick question when youre an enginner on csx or w/e freight railroad, do you stick to one region of the railroad or do you transfer around to different lines, were you always on the river line?
OK. I am calmly going to ask a couple of questions. Was it a crossing i.e. where a road crosses tracks and there are lights, gates, bells or at least a sign that says railroad crossing and it is in the shape of an X. Or was it a private crossing i.e. where a road crosses the tracks and there is only a stop sign for vehicular traffic or nothing at all. Because trains are only required to blow for crossings, not private crossings.
Still hilarious as hell. They do, however, do recrews even at green's. A southbound empty coal was holding short of the Big Sandy Jct and had to wait on it's final member with a green light, while a loaded coal came down the Kanawaha past it. Pretty interesting day though.
I really wish I lived in Harrington Delaware because Norfolk Southern runs through there but its far from where I live. The CSX tracks are 10 minutes from my house. But this place is 1 hour away.
Audiophile55, trains have the capability of killing people, but if you stay out of their way, and look before crossing, it shouldn't be a problem. If it was a lightly-used road, then it probably needs only crossbucks. If it is Private, then it definitely needs only crossbucks. Some private crossings require no train horn, so this may be the case. It doesn't matter if someone travels the road daily or not, that doesn't mean the crew now has to sound the horn.
I remember watching this video and just thinking it was funny. That was before I hired on. Now I COMPLETELY understand having been in this situation lol. Now that "who be callin" (can't remember the dispatchers name) retired from its even worse.
And this relates to this how? Q271 was moving along at, most, 20mph. They were scheduled for a recrew somewhere near this meet, but they didn't listen. They had ample time to stop. They were just stupid and went farther...
I spent 8 and a half years working for CSX as a engineer out of Richmond VA working to rocky mount nc or florence sc. CSX sucked but when i met NS engineers they complained even more then us. When i switched to amtrak in 2003 i had BNSF and UP engineers in my class and they really complained badly about their railroads especially the UP guys. Fact is in railroading we all got something to complain about. guy in my class came from Metro north and said he hated it, so go figure.
very interesting Video! but was the guy in the video who said Fuck You in Q271? i see he was having fun with it and i get what you mean some people just dont Get It Very Unique Video!
just think. i wanted to be a trainman since i was a kid. and work for csx. i still love railroading, but thank god i am a truck driver! i get to sleep in my own bed every night, see my wife every day, and watch you guys eat crap!. sorry, and thanks for posting this, it only solidifies my feelings for not following through with the csx conductor class!!!
What was the comment on the radio just before you said that CSX was wasting your time? Someone asking where the hell you were? Bit hard to hear that over the sound of Q271 (complete with such a kind, constructive comment from the Engr ;-))
I'm not worried about god. Old men who write rules worry about blasphemy. as for the subject at hand i do agree that if they only blew the horn once then the crew was partly at fault and i agree that all crossings should have at least lights. The crew also travels that route daily and that does not excuse them from blowing just as the man driving the road daily does not excuse hime from looking for a train. i am sorry for your loss
LMFAO i hear radio exchanges similar to that often on BNSF's Emporia sub when 2 trains pass each other , including playing a bit of music (heard the beginning of OZZY's crazy train once :P ). how did some people misinterpret it?
its just that so many buffs put up a comment about stuff that is already explained. and saying fuck you is about one of the sanest things ever done during a meet. thanks for watching and subscribing
this kind of crap happens all the time. nobody ever talks to each other about what is going on until it is too late and then it is the t&e crew's fault. i would have done the same thing-if i have a signal i'm taking it. i will say that if i was going home and wasn't close to overtime i might have asked about the recrew, but if on ot then forget it, i'll wait. that's the attitude csx management will make you have. fill my pockets with your mistakes.
I can relate to that in a different experiece. A few days ago, i rode the Lake Shore Limited from Cleveland to Chicago and it got in at 4:15 AM but its billed to arrive at 3:45. So thanks to CSX dispatchers who eat expedited Chicken Shit, its half-hour late but NS dispatchers know what they're doing because it arrived in Chicago 10 minutes early.
Man CSX sucks. No wonder there are all kinds of errors and derailments with them, they run their employees into the ground! And they get important trains like UPS TOFCs held behind terribly unlike BNSF or UP.
dumbbuff: Want to know something even dumber? It's when a railroad spends $1,100.00 on a horn to replace one that can be fixed for $80.00. Perfectly fine Leslie RS-5Ts get crushed by CSX, in exchange for the lousy K5LA horns you hear down that line today. I'm not kidding! Add to that, the stupendous amounts of money they spend on junk GE motors (um, "locomotives", in other words).
@TheDeadhead426 LMAO! If a Conductor through a Newspaper that said get a job on it, I would laugh it off. You're right, no need to get but hurt over everything
Trains do not kill people, people who get in front of trains get killed. An engineer can not make the train swerve to hit someone. And the ENGINEER IS NOT DRIVING A CAR. HITTING THE BRAKES AT THE LAST GODDAMM SECOND (anything short of 1000 feet) WILL NOT MAKE THE TRAIN SLOW DOWN (i am assuming the train was doing more than 10mph) so take your hmmmmmmmmmm somewhere else
First saw this video in my early days on the railroad. Always a favorite. Didn’t know this account was yours.
Do I know you?
@@dumbbuff I believe you do. Anyway, nice video. It’s a classic.

As a conductor for the UP, I find this video to be the funniest on youtube, it captures a meet perfectly, good for a laugh, thanks for uploading.
I remember the NYC...
I'm old.
Nice vid, dumbbuff!
CSX it's Penn Central but Blue lol good video BS makes the day pass alot faster :P
Now thats funny gotta have fun at work somehow. Nice video, had to read through and watch it a couple of times to fully understand what you were saying. Too bad the railroads do that to their employees.
if you pause at 1:05 you can see the middle finger !that's why he screamed it he knew that dude will stick his finger out
he said something to the effect of "do that on your own time". the dude is cool he was just fuckin with me
My uncle is an NS engineer. Has been since 1970. He loves his job but he could care less about the whole railfanning thing.

Was that a leased unit from CP on the Delaware and Hudson line?
"This is my own time, the company is just wasting it". LOL.
I remember watching this video and just thinking it was funny. That was before I hired on. Now I COMPLETELY understand having been in this situation lol. Now that "who be callin" (can't remember the dispatchers name) retired from its even worse.
did that engineer just cuss you out!? wow.
What do u think of those CP units i understand they dont have fridges in the american units.
haha what did he yell "bullshit" lol and the "this is my own time the companys just waisting it"
The Chessie Mafia? Oh jeez then they're still using the top floor of the terminal tower in downtown Cleveland
And this relates to this how? Q271 was moving along at, most, 20mph. They were scheduled for a recrew somewhere near this meet, but they didn't listen. They had ample time to stop. They were just stupid and went farther...
read the video description. it was not frustration it was him having fun
-I can understand his frustration, but don't let it out on you; it's not your fault!
don't take that as literal, he was just bustin my balls
Wow, it's like working for the US Airways of railroads.
i love the '"this is my own time the company is just wasting it fucking halarious!
At least he turned off his lights
I can't believe CSX did that. I starting not to care to much about that company. They're rude and they are having so many derailments.
even the guy in the hlcx heard it ! lol
Why was there a guy in the HLCX unit?
for fun
I spent 8 and a half years working for CSX as a engineer out of Richmond VA working to rocky mount nc or florence sc. CSX sucked but when i met NS engineers they complained even more then us. I still don't understand the high tension. Then again, I wasn't there.
@yofrentzen - That was more than likely a railroad worker.
Nice video!
totally there with you buddy, at least they are normally on time.
Wow! That conductor should be fired!
Was the dude driving the CSX train drinking and driving?
gotta give it to GE, the AC GEVO's kick the crap out of SD70AC's. The DC gevo's were worse than terrible though
very interesting Video! but was the guy in the video who said Fuck You in Q271? i see he was having fun with it and i get what you mean some people just dont Get It Very Unique Video!
At 1:12-1:15 what did the guy on the radio say?
just think. i wanted to be a trainman since i was a kid. and work for csx. i still love railroading, but thank god i am a truck driver! i get to sleep in my own bed every night, see my wife every day, and watch you guys eat crap!. sorry, and thanks for posting this, it only solidifies my feelings for not following through with the csx conductor class!!!

Here at CSX we strive to have a calm, and comfortable, working environment for our employees. ; )
BNSF is one of the Unsafest RR's in America Like Up Amtrak was rated #1 then NS & Then CSX BNSF was down alot farther Like Up
Love it. I don't care how fucking stupid CSX may be, as long as their running old EMDs, I just hate the people.
FUUUUUCCCKK YOUUUU (doppler effect).... I love it! LOL!!!

this kind of crap happens all the time. nobody ever talks to each other about what is going on until it is too late and then it is the t&e crew's fault. i would have done the same thing-if i have a signal i'm taking it. i will say that if i was going home and wasn't close to overtime i might have asked about the recrew, but if on ot then forget it, i'll wait. that's the attitude csx management will make you have. fill my pockets with your mistakes.

Did the engineer, of the other train, fliped you the bird?
I can relate to that in a different experiece. A few days ago, i rode the Lake Shore Limited from Cleveland to Chicago and it got in at 4:15 AM but its billed to arrive at 3:45. oh ok thx I had no clue!
why? please read the goddamm video description.
what a way to run a railroad...lol
So everything you said the description box - was that why the other conductor lost it whilst he was passing you?
Man CSX sucks. No wonder there are all kinds of errors and derailments with them, they run their employees into the ground! And they get important trains like UPS TOFCs held behind terribly unlike BNSF or UP.
did you get fired?
