Tried and returned too many of these mini arcade cabs By far the most consistent with general build and function quality is myarcade Myarcade knocked it out of the park with the space invaders Classic Edition scale replica. Backlit marquee, scale can, art, and reflected playfield. Appears to be authentic at ade rom code, speed, sound. A keeper But too many use wrong aspect ratio, screen orientation, inaccurate controls, no backlit marquee. One of the arcade classics Defender mini cabs, while very nice scale cab, doesn't even use the Defender game rom!? It uses a Stargate rom from a console! I kept it because it was clearance priced, nice scale cab and art, but jeez Too many Myarcade units have console roms, wrong aspect, sound issues you demonstrate. Hopefully things clean up moving forward for us retro collector grownups
True of their premium titles, for sure. Sadly, after three they seem to have discontinued (or at least paused) those. Here's my review of the Space Invaders: th-cam.com/video/toNj8jkGKxw/w-d-xo.html
I bought the my arcade one before I seen any reviews but I don't have that sound issue at all? Here is Australia it is a steep $59 to buy. But the screen is not the best and hard to see in different angles which is annoying.
I’m just gonna say it, I’ve owned the my arcade Galahad machine for months and never experienced the sound glitching you experienced. I think what the my arcade lacks is the original sounding audio and the normal score layout. Other than that everything works great and I think it’s a great machine
Yep. You said it. 😁 I've heard that later models may have improved audio quality, but the manufacturer never offered a replacement, so I can only review based on the product provided.
Great review. The My Arcade version has an option for a micro usb charger to insert instead of using batteries. Does the Arcade Classic version have the same feature?
Hi, Philip, thanks for watching. No, the Arcade Classics can only be powered via batteries. No USB micro port. 😕 Glad you found us and hope you'll subscribe to check out much more of our GenX-inspired content!
One thing I hate about arcade classics is how tiny the space from the control to screen...the control on arcade classics feels and looks very cheap.and the stick is not removable ...it's hard to play when the stick is small...on the my arcade..it's more spacious and it's more comfortable to play.
I've got pretty meaty paws and I don't have trouble with the spacing, but I can certainly see how that would be a problem based on your hand size, Christopher. Of course, that's probably true for you for a lot of handhelds, I'm guessing.
What level of galaga do you average if you play regularly if you you don't mind me asking. On the mini's and original cabinet I get up to around level six or seven playing casually, but when playing seriously to beat my personal high score, level thirteen or higher.
When I'm really focusing I can get up around level 25-30. Here's a video from a few years back where George and I were competing at Galaga: th-cam.com/video/pxvpSNzVh7Q/w-d-xo.html
It's that particular unit you have with the my arcade, because I have the same exact one and it plays pretty similar to an original galaga cabinet in my opinion minus the slow or rapid fire opinions when you insert a coin. I agree, it plays slower. But it's far better for practice then the arcade original. The feeling of controls is a little more accurate and there's more finger room which is more important for me personally cause I have long fingers. As for the sound, your my arcade probably has a manufacturer error cause mine doesn't sound like that.
That all may be, but I can only review the unit I have. If later units were improved (which I hear they were) then that's good for consumers but doesn't change my review. 😊
Another nice video, but I’d have to respectfully disagree to some extent... Newer dreamgear Galaga version fixed the sound issue... not sure about the other issues (screen looks good to me on both).....the newer fixed version of the dreamgear is much better to play than the basicfun (arcade ckassic) version... Even the dreamger one with the fire sound glitch is more fun than the basicfun, once you get used to the sound. The speed/snappy-ness is really nice on the dreamgear version...not too mention the starfield goes in the right direction. One last plus for the dreamgear version is that the enemies will eventually do the loop around move where they come up from beneath you… On the basic fun version this never happens (at least in the 5 to 10 levels I’ve played) I like them both, but basicfun’s is a slower experience...and it is a nice small package with an ability to save high-scores by letting it timeout vs turning it off. Dreamgear does not time out, but has the nice demo screen (so you can just use micro-usb and leave it on for saving high scores... and btw, switching between micro usb and battery power on dreamgear is instantaneous so kinda best of both worlds. Both versions are great, provided you get the later version of dreamgear with the fixed fire sound (or just deal with the sound issue as it is fairly easy to get used to after a while...it is just the fire sound that has a buzz, the other sounds are fine...) and yeah, as you may gave guessed I have both an old and new version of the dreamger one as well as the basicfun one, LOL!!!
Thanks, Eric. I've heard from a lot of viewers telling me that what I got was a first-run and the sound problem got fixed in later revisions. That's cool, but I got early-adopter penalty for my trouble!
GenXGrownUp in case you’re interested in doing the mod… Just google for Pac-Man dreamgear mod and it is the first one listed in videos. if yours is not easily modifiable it will have a big black epoxy glob over the contacts required for modding it… In that case I would skip it because it’s a lot harder.... and it is a bit tricky to begin with....
Galaga is great game first time i ever play at Arcades I think it was 25c per game or 3 games 50 cents in early 80s I also play it on c64 and Atari flashback. i thinking getting one i saw some ebgames
Only other myarcade I kept was the Dataeast unit that purportedly runs android and is hackable to run other emulators, roms for a potential 1000+ game minicab
Sorry - not being pedantic, but which one? I don't remember a mini player pro. 😉 I recently looked at a Micro Player Pro and a Pocket Player Pro - I'm gonna guess the former. If so, the new Pro line of Galaga is superior to both of these entries.
Unfortunately My Arcade is the only way to go. It has a demo screen that is attractive in a home arcade. There is no demo with classic. If you want a game to tool around with classic is the way to go. If you want something that would work great in your home arcade then My Arcade is the winner hands down. Let's also talk about USB compatible with the My Arcade. You get what you pay for and this review doesn't uncover the greatness of My Arcade.
"The greatness" is a bit of a reach, Davidson. The design of MA cabinet is more faithful, but they're asleep at the wheel cranking out half of of their "arcade" products as NES ROMs. 😀 Thanks for watching, and if you haven't already I hope you will subscribe and check out much more of our GenX-inspired content!
My arcade's Namco museum is out..it costs a lot more than my arcade or arcade classic..but you'd have true arcade rom....and the screen is larger..it's 4.25". ..and it also has (Dig Dug, Galaxian, Mapy , Pacman, Rolling Thunder...20 games total)..instead of getting each of these single my arcade or arcade classic units..get this and you would have all arcade roms.
Yeah, that's not surprising, FormulaFox. Thanks to other commenters I think we've established that this was limited to an early run. Something they remedied in later shipments. Glad yours is good!
To test whether they used the real Galaga ROMs, try the Stop Enemies Firing trick. I have the Jakks Pacific Ms. Pac-Man Plug and Play game unit and it works, as do the tricks for Xevious and Ms. Pac-Man.
I hear you, bout a couple problems with that. Firstly, it's obvious at a glance that this isn't the arcade ROM (aspect ratio, sounds, bullet angles, etc.), so a test is entirely unnecessary. Secondly, the firing glitch was fixed in later revisions of the arcade machines, so you can have a genuine ROM without the glitch.
I just got a bundle of six used games, they all smell like somebody leaned close to play while smoking very cheap cigars, but that's what you get: used. I got 3 My Arcades including Galaga, and 3 Basic Funs Galaga not included; the My Arcades just have terrible control regardless of the cute removable joystick, and the sound is totally glitchy. As a handheld gamer, not a collector, Basic Fun is 100% the way to go.
I personally feel like I have no reason to purchase a My Arcade, because I prefer gameplay over looks and Mappy and Burger Time are coming to Tiny Arcade as of the 2020 toy fair.
I love the My Arcade Cabinet version of Galaga but HATE the game play, while the Basic Fun version has great but slow game play, but I HATE the pieced together cabinet. This is a tough one to call....game play vs cabinet appeal....hmmmm.
If they could put the arcade classics ROM into the my arcade cabinet then you would have a real winner... Or they could just have the actual licensed arcade ROM that would be most awesome.
Hey, Toybox. That's certainly a matter of opinion, and I respect yours. I prefer the more "cabinet-y" look of My Arcade myself. And though there's nothing wrong with Arcade Classics, side-by side, AC lacks a bit of shape and style for my tastes.
I love the look of the My Arcade better so I modded mine to play any game and I made Mario Bros decals for it. So not only does it look awesome but plays awesome as well.
I have both too...well sort of. I bought the MyArcade version for my wife (after even asking her which she preferred as she's a huge Galaga fan) and we bought the Arcade Classics one for my 7 year old for Christmas (its technically from his great grandparents. They gave us the cash to pick him up something). My wife was surprised her's plays the NES rom, but wasn't bothered because as a kid she probably played that version more than the actual arcade. Our son was happy with his own Galaga as mom would let him play her's from time to time. One issue we had with the Arcade Classics version is our power button seems to only reset the game and the game will only power off after about 30 seconds of not being used. Is ours defective or is that how they work?
Just got #9 Galaga and I tested it and it looks so real just like the actual arcade but problem is I noticed the size is not the same because it is not portrait screen. Harder to play because it is too close and dont have time to evade those bugs and rockets, Please redesign back to portrait screen exactly as the real arcade.
I don’t know son , arcade classics galaga runs hella slow . The my arcade one plays just like the nes , super fast. Both have autofire. It’s like 2 different games . Best to get both
@@GenXGrownUp how come you don't get the myarcade pocket players. it has a dpad so its much easier to play these games instead of messing with that little stick
Wow, RustyX2010, I actually hadn't noticed the striking similarity until you mentioned it. But with the popularity of Pops, I'd think that would be a reason to leave them looking the old way! 😀 Glad you found us and hope you'll subscribe to check out much more of our GenX-inspired content!
I have a later version of the My Arcade Galaga. The sound is perfect, and the machine itself has a beautiful design. I believe I would stick with My Arcade now that the sound has been fixed. Furthermore, I dislike how slow the Arcade Classics is.
i have my Arcade PAC Man and ms PAC Man bigger versions I am getting Galaga and dig dug soon great games I have played in arcades when i was in my mid teens I much rather have bigger ones other ones are to small
All the Galaga's are deal breakers for me. Galaga has to be perfect. Arcade classics plays too slow. My Arcade sounds terrible. Arcade 1Up plays too slow AND sounds terrible! As of right now only MAME seems to have gotten it right.
I hate that both have the joysticks on the left hand side, most are right handed. In fact all the joysticks should be in the middle for easier game play.
I'm so disappointed, I don't know if discontinued the arcade classic galaga that you reviewed, but the one by the same brand I just got off Amazon (basic fun Inc.) is a horrible version of it. I'd highly recommend staying as far away from it as possible. It's like a version of galaga you'd play on an old graphing calculator or something. Did you buy your arcade classic one on Amazon too? I was really hoping go get the exact one you have.
Oh, no. That stinks, ghenold. It sounds like you got the LCD version on the card rather than the boxed version from the video. Does this look like what you received: amzn.to/2u8Vl81 All of the Basic Fun units I have I purchased at brick and mortar retailers like Wal-Mart.
I don't get why My Arcade is using NES roms. Wouldn't you want it as close to the arcade as possible? To me yes. If I want the NES experience, I'd use a NES.
I couldn't agree more, Doughnut! I've gotta think it's because of the shortcut available by using NES-on-a-chip. Meager modern hardware could handle emulating these classic ROMs, but the NoaC is already packaged & licensed. 😀 Glad you found us and hope you'll subscribe to check out much more of our GenX-inspired content!
I wish they used genesis, snes or turbo grafix roms instead of nes ones..unfortunately..there is no galaga on any one of them... I would surmise that it's cheaper to obtain the license on console roms than the real arcade roms..
@@GenXGrownUp I guess it depends on what you want in it. I just want it to be more like a decoration where I can plug it in and have it on all the time while also being able to actually play it (even though it's not the best game play). So I guess I'm my case game play is not that important.
I got the Street Fighter II Replicade which I also just use as an always on display piece, with occasional playing, even though the game play is great on it. Hopefully they make more mini arcades with usb plug ins also cuz there's people like me who like them more as display!
Those are definitely weird additions. Since they seemed to have re-written to get closer to the ROM, why the addition of these features that were never in the original?! They're not bad, but they're not true to the original to be certain!
Right? I've gotten reports from other viewers that later versions of this hardware fixed that problem, but I can only go by the version I've in hand. To be fair, I haven't noticed that sound problem on other My Arcade units purchased since then. Thanks for watching, Johnny!
at 6:19 are you serious? i have them both and MyArcade is definitely the one that is more vibrant, has the deeper blacks and clearly has the bigger screen. I don't know why you would so deliberately lie to everyone about it. unless you just got a defective game, you know the one on the right doesn't look like that in real life and you are trying to fool people for some reason.
Whoa, pump your brakes, there, viker77. First and foremost, you can clearly see in all of my footage that the AC has deeper blacks and higher contrast than the MA unit. Compared the other ones I have it doesn't appear defective or different, but I'd gladly look at a different review unit if MA wanted to send one. Additionally, disagreement isn't equivalent to deception. I reported what I saw, and showed them side-by-side. If you like the appearance of MA, more power to you! To my eyes and to my camera's lens, AC had a better-looking display. Period.
Maybe newer versions of the MA have better screens as well as no sound glitches? No reason to attack him about it, you can clearly see in the video the MA he has looks like shit compared to the AC....
..true..the sound on my arcade's is a bit glitchy....but graphics looks pretty close to the arcade's version....Overall...my arcade version is the winnner (better stick..more spacious for your fingers..artwork and design are better on the cabinet..you're not tied to just batteries)
Not very good review I don't think this guy has ever played the real Galaga in an arcade failsto mention on arcade classics bombs are being dropped straight down as well as being dropped at an angle grew up on Galaga don't remember bombs being dropped like that I have the My Arcade version no glitches on mine few things off but more accurate than the arcade classic

Myarcade knocked it out of the park with the space invaders Classic Edition scale replica. Backlit marquee, scale can, art, and reflected playfield. Appears to be authentic at ade rom code, speed, sound. A keeper
But too many use wrong aspect ratio, screen orientation, inaccurate controls, no backlit marquee.
One of the arcade classics Defender mini cabs, while very nice scale cab, doesn't even use the Defender game rom!? It uses a Stargate rom from a console!
I kept it because it was clearance priced, nice scale cab and art, but jeez
Too many Myarcade units have console roms, wrong aspect, sound issues you demonstrate.
It's the same size screen, the side score on the my arcade makes the play area smaller.
It would be cool if you could do a comparison of the my arcade and basic fun versions of Ms Pacman, now that Ms Pacman is available on my arcade.
I'm definitely gonna do that, Roger. Waiting for the My Arcade version to hit my town!
If you have a Roku then I highly recommend getting Galaga for it , because it's one of the best versions I've ever played.
Thanks for the tip, Kevin. I'll have to try it out!
Thanks for the suggestion, Kevin. Video published today: th-cam.com/video/DS0zUMVfTAA/w-d-xo.html
@@GenXGrownUp Your welcome, thanks for the shout out .
The my arcade you have is defective because mine is fine
That may be, Cyclone. Unfortunately, this is the one I had for review & comparison. The general consensus is that they fixed it in a later release.
I bought the my arcade one before I seen any reviews but I don't have that sound issue at all? Here is Australia it is a steep $59 to buy. But the screen is not the best and hard to see in different angles which is annoying.
Yikes! Sorry about the steep markup. I have heard that in later batches the audio glitching was corrected.
For me personally I am going to make a mini arcade in my room, I would like better gameplay, but I’m going to go with MyArcade.
Good luck on your mini arcade!
One last plus for the dreamgear version is that the enemies will eventually do the loop around move where they come up from beneath you… On the basic fun version this never happens (at least in the 5 to 10 levels I’ve played)
I like them both, but basicfun’s is a slower experience...and it is a nice small package with an ability to save high-scores by letting it timeout vs turning it off.
Dreamgear does not time out, but has the nice demo screen (so you can just use micro-usb and leave it on for saving high scores... and btw, switching between micro usb and battery power on dreamgear is instantaneous so kinda best of both worlds.
Both versions are great, provided you get the later version of dreamgear with the fixed fire sound (or just deal with the sound issue as it is fairly easy to get used to after a while...it is just the fire sound that has a buzz, the other sounds are fine...)
and yeah, as you may gave guessed I have both an old and new version of the dreamger one as well as the basicfun one, LOL!!!
Thanks, Eric. I've heard from a lot of viewers telling me that what I got was a first-run and the sound problem got fixed in later revisions. That's cool, but I got early-adopter penalty for my trouble!
GenXGrownUp On the up side, the first run ones are slightly easier to be modded to unlock additional games, so that’s something.
@@GearGuy I'll take it!
This is the best iPhone of all time
???
Only other myarcade I kept was the Dataeast unit that purportedly runs android and is hackable to run other emulators, roms for a potential 1000+ game minicab
How's that going?
@@GenXGrownUp Won't have time to try it for a while, maybe months.
How to on GRS channel
Where do I buy this because I love galaga and really want it?
Thanks for watching, Jorinda! You can find it at a local Walmart retailer, or online here: amzn.to/2PRTj4E
I have a my arcade and I don’t know why the joystick can go up
Sub'd thanks for the review
Thanks, Josh. Glad to have you here.
Hear me out: Keep the form factor of the My Arcade and use the Basic Fun rom
Yup.
How does this compare to my arcade micro player pro which you liked so much?
Sorry - not being pedantic, but which one? I don't remember a mini player pro. 😉 I recently looked at a Micro Player Pro and a Pocket Player Pro - I'm gonna guess the former. If so, the new Pro line of Galaga is superior to both of these entries.
I meant to say micro, thanks
I wish I played galaga
Do it!
The sound clutching is a you issue. Mine doesn't have that.problem.
🤦♂️
My arcade's Namco museum is out..it costs a lot more than my arcade or arcade classic..but you'd have true arcade rom....and the screen is larger..it's 4.25". ..and it also has (Dig Dug, Galaxian, Mapy , Pacman, Rolling Thunder...20 games total)..instead of getting each of these single my arcade or arcade classic units..get this and you would have all arcade roms.
There's no way I'm giving my kids a $100 toy to destroy. The arcade classics ones are perfect for $20.
I own the Galaga MYARCADE👍
Cool.
is defender or scramble on these?
Defender is sort of on these: th-cam.com/video/J1yq0_Cspek/w-d-xo.html
No Scramble yet.
@@GenXGrownUp that's not defender that's the follow up stargate - which is actually the wrong game they are selling which is funny
@@byromtaylor6482 Oh, I know it all too well! That's why I said, "sort of." 😊
Interesting... I have a MyArcade Galaga, and.... it...does NOT have ANY sound glitches..... Quality control issues?
Yeah, that's not surprising, FormulaFox. Thanks to other commenters I think we've established that this was limited to an early run. Something they remedied in later shipments. Glad yours is good!
@@GenXGrownUp Yeah, I really shouldn't be surprised by that, but for some reason when these things happen I still am.
I don't have that sound glitch in the one I've got in the UK.... maybe a fault?... Anyway, I enjoyed your review, thank you : -)
Thanks, Sam. I have heard from other commenters that the audio trouble seems to have been addressed in later releases.

Ah that explains it.. Thankyou...

So, from watching this I want an arcade1up.
What's up with the my arcade namco museum review
Still planned for one day.
Speaking of Namco Museum... th-cam.com/video/sxFsCuvbwvk/w-d-xo.html
Fair enough.
Just bought a my arcade... this isn’t what i wanted to hear lol.
Oh, no! Sorry, Logan. 🙁
Your myarcade version is messed up. Mine plays and sounds better than what you got here
I agree. It is messed up. 😝
Honestly I think the arcade classics look better than the my arcade
Hey, Toybox. That's certainly a matter of opinion, and I respect yours. I prefer the more "cabinet-y" look of My Arcade myself. And though there's nothing wrong with Arcade Classics, side-by side, AC lacks a bit of shape and style for my tastes.
I like both
I love the look of the My Arcade better so I modded mine to play any game and I made Mario Bros decals for it. So not only does it look awesome but plays awesome as well.
Smith can you make a video that would be great :)
but the stick and the design on my arcade are way better.
One issue we had with the Arcade Classics version is our power button seems to only reset the game and the game will only power off
after about 30 seconds of not being used. Is ours defective or is that how they work?
Yours isn't defective the game goes into "Sleep Mode" if not played in a certain amount of time. Most of the Arcade classic will go into sleep mode.
Sir I am going to need that portal gun from you
Good eye!
MY ARCADE has the NES version xd that's why sounds like that
Yep.
Best to get both
Agreed. I'm a collector, so I definitely got both.
@@GenXGrownUp how come you don't get the myarcade pocket players. it has a dpad so its much easier to play these games instead of messing with that little stick
Probably cause the box looks so much like a Funko Pop they had to change it
Wow, RustyX2010, I actually hadn't noticed the striking similarity until you mentioned it. But with the popularity of Pops, I'd think that would be a reason to leave them looking the old way! 😀 Glad you found us and hope you'll subscribe to check out much more of our GenX-inspired content!
What's funk pop?
I have a later version of the My Arcade Galaga. The sound is perfect, and the machine itself has a beautiful design. I believe I would stick with My Arcade now that the sound has been fixed. Furthermore, I dislike how slow the Arcade Classics is.
I hate how slow the Arcade Classics is.
i have my Arcade PAC Man and ms PAC Man bigger versions I am getting Galaga and dig dug soon great games I have played in arcades when i was in my mid teens I much rather have bigger ones other ones are to small
Congrats.
Myarcades galaga plays faster than the original
Yep. One of the many differences. Thanks for watching.
All the Galaga's are deal breakers for me. Galaga has to be perfect. Arcade classics plays too slow. My Arcade sounds terrible. Arcade 1Up plays too slow AND sounds terrible! As of right now only MAME seems to have gotten it right.
If you put earbuds in while playing MyArcade's version, the audio issue apparently fixes itself.
I honestly couldnt care less, i just want to play galaga
As well you should. But you deserve the genuine article, R screen. Don't settle.
I have two versions of the Arcade 1 up versions and they both run very arcade accurate.
The 3/4 scale cabinet blows as does the first Countercade, but the second version Countercade plays great.
I guess the world may never know
May never know.... what?

Namco Museum is the way to go.
So people keep telling me, Mike. So I've finally broken down and ordered one.
@@GenXGrownUp We need the My Arcade console with the Arcade Classics software.
Sounds like an engineering project!
I wish they used genesis, snes or turbo grafix roms instead of nes ones..unfortunately..there is no galaga on any one of them... I would surmise that it's cheaper to obtain the license on console roms than the real arcade roms..
My arcades are always better because you can plug it in thru usb and have it on on your desk all the time without worrying about battery life
That's certainly more convenient, but I don't believe that makes them categorically bettery.
@@GenXGrownUp I guess it depends on what you want in it. I just want it to be more like a decoration where I can plug it in and have it on all the time while also being able to actually play it (even though it's not the best game play). So I guess I'm my case game play is not that important.
That's fair then. My Arcade is better as strictly a display piece: I'd agree with that all day.
I got the Street Fighter II Replicade which I also just use as an always on display piece, with occasional playing, even though the game play is great on it. Hopefully they make more mini arcades with usb plug ins also cuz there's people like me who like them more as display!
wtf with the backwards starfield and angled enemy shots. so close and yet so far. sigh.
Those are definitely weird additions. Since they seemed to have re-written to get closer to the ROM, why the addition of these features that were never in the original?! They're not bad, but they're not true to the original to be certain!
342nd like!!!
❓
The MyArcade sound is awful.
Right? I've gotten reports from other viewers that later versions of this hardware fixed that problem, but I can only go by the version I've in hand. To be fair, I haven't noticed that sound problem on other My Arcade units purchased since then. Thanks for watching, Johnny!
@@GenXGrownUp I bought two of them (with different box art) and they both sound bad. The new Galaga hand held is good though!
at 6:19 are you serious? i have them both and MyArcade is definitely the one that is more vibrant, has the deeper blacks and clearly has the bigger screen.
Thanks, em0rox. Yes, I've heard from multiple viewers now that subsequent releases of MA have buttery smooth audio, but no word of an improved screen.
..true..the sound on my arcade's is a bit glitchy....but graphics looks pretty close to the arcade's version....Overall...my arcade version is the winnner (better stick..more spacious for your fingers..artwork and design are better on the cabinet..you're not tied to just batteries)
