I've thanked you in the comments many times but after doing a full engine rebuild on my PX125 it only went and started first kick today!!! Im sure theres plenty of other folk that can never thank you enough.
love these vintage Vespa videos. especially engine rebuilds and processes to do it. Robot is the best. he answers questions automatically, that I have in my head, as I watch. He's a genius.
Tremendous! I have had two 150 Supers. The first when I turned 18 years old as an apprentice at Cincinnati Milacron in Birmingham UK. The second was a beater that I bought when in college. It had its side panels chromed Quadrophenia style. I am now on my second GTS 300 Super - a creature of habit. I often watch your videos especially before servicing one of my scooters. My friends rode slimline lambrettas and I envied them at the time, but it soon became obvious that the Vespas were more reliable and stood up better to the punishment I gave them. I am getting so much out of your videos. It is getting difficult to find a good shop for servicing locally, so I still fettle them myself although as I approach 70 yrs old, it would be good to find a trustworthy technician. Thank you so much for the work you do on these vids. Truly an international treasure!
ive woked on lots of 2 stroke engines over the years but ive never seen anyone do the seals in a scooter, that was very interesting, nice video thank you. Much better than a haynes book of lies here in the UK.
Great video! Straight to the point with great lighting and camera shots! More service repair videos like this please. Reminded me of South Main Auto. Both are great mechanics to watch.
What a great video. Having owned several Vespas (Primavera, P200E, Gts 300) and watched a load of videos, i can just say: This one was the best by far!! Greetings from Austria!
Back in the 70s we had a whole batch of defective crank seals where the rubber would separate from the steel and cause a major leak. One day I had a carb off a rotary valve 150 setting on the bench when another mechanic walked by and gave the kickstarter a kick and the engine started and ran without the carb! Gas had leaked through the inner seal and filled the transmission. From there the gas was sucked back into the crankcase and the engine would run without the carb.
Great video folks! Just picked up a P200E that has been parked outside and neglected for 5+ years. Hardly any paint left. No major rust though. Will sandblast, paint and rebuild per your videos.
Be really careful. Killed my crank threads! I used the method shown to re-install the crank 1:11. With impact tools, you can strip the threads in a split second. So I'm out a crank. Otherwise, an excellent video!
When you put the gears back in (1:20:15) - do they need to line up with the space for the crucifix? Or does it matter that they DONT all align? Just re-did my VBB1 and am having issues with shifting - I lined up all of the spaces for the gears so that the cruciform can slide smoothly between them. I am thinking this is the issue...which means I'll have to tear her apart again...ugh
I'm working on the same bike (78 P200E) and I would like to upgrade the crankshaft for a little more performance in conjunction with the 26/26 carb and a cylinder kit, exhaust. There are so many choices, 57mm, 60mm, long stroke, etc. What do you think I should get for a mild upgraded tune? I guess I need to match the stroke of the crank to the cylinder, yes?
Hi, I was wandering if by removing the crank in that way you can damage the bearing. Do you think that is possibile to do it that way or it would be better to change the bearing?
Very nice and very thorough! My sincerest compliments. I just picked up a 79 P200E with missing cylinder/flywheel/head. its a mess. it also says 43000 miles on the clock ( Is that even possible?!) I am presuming its going to be an engine- out full rebuild. Do you have a video for that?
43000 miles is no big deal. My Rally 200 had 170,000 miles when I sold it. Yes I had replaced the piston, rings, and bearings and clutch plates a couple times but that's not a huge job.
ROBOT,great video but I was wondering why not just take the motor out and do it on the bench.do your think this is easier this way? Mine is due a refresh also.
Great video. What will be the minimum break-in millage that it is recommended after a piston change? I have a friend that told me about 1,000 miles at no more than 25 mph. If that is the case it will take me forever to break-in
I’d be interested to know how old your friend is. Fifty plus years ago, breaking or ‘running in was a more rigorous process. Machining , metallurgy and lubrication sciences were all less advanced. It is still necessary to gradually build up the speed and load a vehicle is subjected to. On my GTS Vespa, I was advised to keep below 50 mph for the first 600 miles. Better advice would be to not exceed 60% of full power, and to vary speed. My first journey was from picking the bike up in Watford and riding it to Birmingham. Not ideal, but it did not affect the bike adversely at all. In the 50s and 60s, cars came out of the dealers with ‘Running in please pass’ displayed in the rear window. Machined finishes were not as fine as they are from the factory now. It was important for mating surfaces to lap against one another burnishing the parts to reduce friction. This is no longer necessary.
I'm looking into a 2013 Piaggio BV350 with just over 7K miles on it. It has no compression. Sales price is just below $1,000 (I know....you get what you pay for) but I have mechanical experience. This would be a first scooter. Is it worth looking into or am I going down the wrong rabbit hole?
QUESTION i have a 125 px 2008 and it is slow especially unsafe for fast motorway riding , i did think of getting a 4 stroke LML 2OO engine but i was shocked to find out that they only do 55 mph tops , what would you suggest 200 engines are very hard to come by , cheapest way to improve my speed situation, but i dont want to effect the reliability of the scooter , which to be honest is one of the many good things about the bike its reliable ?
Obviously a great mechanic who knows these motors inside out, but the lack of torque wrench use makes me uncomfortable,my ocd wouldn’t let me work without one!
What an impressive video Dude! I didn't see that you check the breather valve on clutch cover. Any suggestion about that? Do we have to clean it regularly?
It’s odd because it started and ran good the day before,I am wondering once I put fresh oil back in the gear case if it’s going to suck the oil into the crank case and burn it
That's weird if I was gonna stripe a p range engine I would of just took the whole thing out. Guy making more work for himself . I always replaced the kickstart quadrant rubbers they are cheap.

I've done this so many times, but love seeing a real mechanic do it.
ive woked on lots of 2 stroke engines over the years but ive never seen anyone do the seals in a scooter, that was very interesting, nice video thank you. Much better than a haynes book of lies here in the UK.
Thank you so much! My LML is 12 years old and has only 350 Km on the clock but I have to replace the oil seals.
I got a PX125E restoration coming soon. Never did an engine with oil pump an separete oil tank. Your videos are gonna be useful! thanks!
Glad to help
Pleasure to watch you work Robot your a fine mechanic .
That was excellent. Took me right back to the fun I had on my 1983 PX200E
Fantastic Robot - thanks for taking the time to do this for the Not So Modern crowd! 🙂✌

Great to hear! Thanks for watching...
nice video , i wish i had this video 20years a go when i had my vespa , but i had to fix a friend vespa and this was wery usefull thanks mate ,, :)
Great video, thank you for posting this! I’m going to rebuild a Sprint motor, I imagine it should be very similar. 👍
Thumbs up for cleaning the scooter before you start. Few TH-cam mechanics clean their stuff before pulling it apart. They're just asking for problems.
Nice hack using the clutch to pull in the flywheel. Why didn't I think of this? Good skills.
You're a machine, Robot!

That is awesome! Let us know how it goes...
@@VespaMotorsport 383 miles but....
The bible! thanks Robot. You are now a member of the family.
This long video I love them.
I've had to take a 1979 p200e engine apart 3 times now because you made no mention of how grooved cases REQUIRE the rubber seal. Thanks dood.
that cylinder head would look great sandblasted

Nice fitting
Hi robot great vid. Just wondering are the intals of a px200 the same as a p200e cheers
Harry Metcalfe of the scooter world - slightly weird but incredibly knowledgeable 😂
WOW, thanks!
Awesome, Thanks!!
great video
Thanks!
Hey from the UK - great vid, really helpful. Do you know if it’s possible to change the engine mountings without dropping the whole engine out?

Se ti posso dare un consiglio i dischi della frizione sarebbe buona cosa lasciarli a bagno d'olio almeno per qualche ora prima del montaggio.
What type of oil or grade of oil goes into the gear box
Good I am not able to do myself ❤

What was the last year of the standard transmission in Vespa?
Exelent!!
No grease top off at Clutch Bearing b4 seal replace? I would have guessed a pinch would be appropriate. 55:22
Hi. Around 31:00 you mentioned the compression was really good... Do you mind sharing what the compression should be?
41:56 the plastic oil diverter is missing ?
Hi Robot,
Can you tell me what octane should I be running in a PX 1979 model 150,,?
1978 and it has an oil pump ?

what model engine oil we use for lml vespa select 2 scooter?
Where are you based?

Italia. Italia e Italia. Caput mundi
Why does it have a battery?

Why would anybody dislike this
How much would a service like this cost?
Hi I pulled the oil drain plug out and gas poured out any ideas
Possibly a leaking fuel valve or float needle causing carb to flood and draining fuel into the crankcase over time.
It’s odd because it started and ran good the day before,I am wondering once I put fresh oil back in the gear case if it’s going to suck the oil into the crank case and burn it
How price

One hour 47 mins? Are you kidding ?
It's a master class on vintage Vespa engines.
Better than a lot of movies I've wasted 90 minutes on
