- In this video I share our 10 favourite children's fiction books set in reality. It could be described as a Montessori booklist for young children as we are heavily inspired as parents by the Montessori approach which suggests that children shouldn't be exposed to much fantasy before the age of 6. Although we don't necessarily do this, we do see the power in literature that our son can relate to and in this video, I share our top choices.

Love these videos! I find so many books! I really need to check out Maggies Mittens & The Detective Dog series! I've never heard of them!
We are huge Hairy Maclairy fans too! My little boys goes into fits of laughter when we say Schnitzel Von Krum with a very low bum! He's easily entertained aha! We're also huge fans of Handa! And Katie Morag will always hold a place in my heart! I used to have two Scottish Grannies called Granny Glasgow and Granny Stornaway haha! They always used to buy me those books and pretend that they were the characters in the books!

Thank you for this! When looking for toddler books, I've been surprised and annoyed to discover that 90% of books seem to be about animals acting like humans... or they're really ugly... or they have a political agenda. So hard to find just nice stories about people! I've never heard of any of the books you mentioned and look forward to checking them out!

I strongly recommend the little red train series by benadict blathwayte for anyone who’s little ones love trains. My 23 month old has been obsessed with the series from around 18 months when I first introduced it to him. No joke we have read one of the stories at least once a day. The illustrations and the stories themselves are lovely so I don’t get bored of reading them!😊
Ahh yes. We've discovered this recently and we have one of the books. Great suggestion. The illustrations are also amazing and there is so much conversation to be had about what we can see in the images. Thanks so much for adding it! 😀
