  • REEL STREETS OF MELBOURNE - EPISODE 2
    I set out to find the locations of the film Death in Brunswick from 1990. It would seem not much has changed.
    A reserved man in need of a job, Carl Fitzgerald (Sam Neill) finds employment at a Greek restaurant. Upon meeting waitress Sophie (Zoe Carides), Carl begins dating the attractive woman. Though it seems things are improving for Carl, an unexpected situation leads to the death of Mustafa (Nick Lathouris), a shady coworker, and Carl must figure out how to cover up the incident. Unsure of what to do, Carl enlists the help of his buddy, Dave (John Clarke), to get rid of Mustafa's corpse.

    My family's shop, Anderson's Hardware, is opposite the Progress Picture Theatre where Sam stands looking across the road. My mum's signature is by his head on the window. Mum shut the shop once a year for our family holiday and it was closed the day they filmed. I missed meeting one of my favourite actors. We had the shop for 50 years. It is now townhouses.

    Some memories there for me. At the time of filming my Dad was the Foreman in charge of the Brighton General Cemetery. I use to spend most my school holidays there as a kid.
    I remember when the Death in Brunswick film crew were on set at the cemetery. The prop hole they dug was reinforced on the sides with wood covered by dirt. This was so the actors could safely be in the hole during filming. I was 10 at the time, but could still walk to the spot today where the filming took place 😁
    I enjoy your little videos. 👍

      @PaulHagl  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I've been waiting 2 and a half years for someone to noticed that slip up. The house across the street was changed quite a bit and the house further down looked identical. This movie location job can be difficult. The rest should be right.

      @@PaulHagl yeah it's numbers 15, 17 and 19 in the film. No 19 has been renovated significantly since 1990. What gives it away is the hedge fence outside number 15 (since gone) and an MMBW post near number 19. Fun fact for the day - number 22 underwent a significant renovation in the late 90s.
      Re your musings about whether or not people know their street/house was in a film - yes and no. Depends on their age.
