      Analysis of a debate is almost meaningless without having seen the debate. I think it's part of being an informed voter that you suffer through the debates themselves otherwise you're just choosing a spinster and take on their opinion

    Starmer clearly wanted to stay dignified and look respectable. Sunak was deeply unpleasant. He basically went after the reform vote. I agree with Rory that if you were scoring this as a 6th form debate Sunak would win because he didn’t let Starmer speak, but in terms of likeability and being a decent person Starmer wins and the Yougov data reflects that.

Ultimately, the public will expect a bit of charisma as they want to be led. I am in my early 60s and retired at 53. Lots of people gave me pushback because they had difficulty grasping the concept of not working if you don’t have to. I looked at my life as stages. I earned everything I have now through a lot of hard work, but I owe it to myself to “stop and smell the roses” in my final stage of life. In my case I left the country after I retired and live in Latin America. It allowed me to get away from all the negative things happening in America while appreciating my new environment. He made no mention of the things that actually matter to most people, eg health service, education, police, the state of our roads, employment. He wants to give our tax money back to us, so we can pay for these things out of our own pockets. In reality, only the wealthy could afford private health care, private education and private refuse collection. The sooner we are shot of him the better. At this juncture following hot on the heels of 'Gamblegate', Sunak knows full well that he hasn't got a hope in hell of reentering Number 10 as Prime Minister on the afternoon of May 5th. Whilst I understand that he has to go through the performance of debating with Starmer and acting as if he has a real chance of the Tories getting a majority, his real adversary and his real goal should be to poke holes in Farage's Reform party policies to ensure that those voters who will flow away from the Tories towards Reform, come back as much as possible. Reform have to be stopped in their tracks and if Sunak was a true leader and really cared about doing something for the country, it is this. That should be his mission now. Of course, he's missed that opportunity with his wishy-washy, weak response in not immediately suspending the offending MPs and Tory staff. So whilst Alistair and Rory's analysis is fascinating in many ways, it is really irrelevant who has won this latest 'battle' as it is abundantly clear that Sunak has lost the war. I can't tell whether there is a concerted effort in the media and amongst other parties to downplay Farage and Reform or whether it is blissful ignorance that they are unable to foresee how things may play out if Reform get their foothold in parliament. The Tories must absolutely have a thorough house cleaning post election and really sort themselves out and get rid of fools like Rees-Mogg, Braverman, Patel, Gove and others that have taken the party too close to the right or simply make them look absolutely incompetent. If they do not, then Reform will slowly but surely start to occupy the space of being the de facto right wing party. That, will be a disaster. Please do not underestimate either Farage or his party under his leadership. To do so, will be fatal.

    Even the jury would have been frusterated with him.
    In a court room the judge would have controlled Sunak.
    Starmer either has stage fright waiting for judge to save him.
    He is used to address the judge and not the jury.
    He thinks that he doesn't need to try because Tories are losing all by themselves, again it is a legal approach as he knows that the case is clear to the judge and that is all that matters.
    He is also traumatised by the loss of the last ekection where at the door steps everyone complains about the unfainess of the Tories but in ticking the box they worry about the value of their houses and taxes going up.
    My brother in law is like that, he joins in when complaining about the unfairness but he votes concervative but tells my sister that his vote is private.
    Mind you in 2015, he was brazen about Brexit and claiming that the UK didn't need EU, even though he is an importer and has contracts suppliers in the EU.

    Surely, the stiffness comes from holding the large Ming vase. Sunak is empty handed.

      And Starmer is empty headed, with no answer. Does not look good for the UK.

    Sunak really was very rude. If he had just listened and responded calmly he would have come across better. He came across well when he answered the questions about Women and brought his Daughters up. The rest of his constant hectoring was irritating.

      @@annphillips1086 would you ? I’ve got 3 children and I’m a campaigner for Reform and yet I have a child amongst these three that has gone against the grain in our family and is voting for another party…. You sound rather intolerant to me as we have no problem with our son’s decision. Your children will probably never be honest with you about who they are voting for because of your intolerance so it’s probably a risky game that you are playing with your family dynamics.

      @@Bedmoments Kind of ironic, that, given that Reform epitomises intolerance. I brought my offspring up to be thoughtful, caring and independent people and obviously as adults they can vote for whomever they choose. I don't own them. But I would be extremely saddened if they were to support the deeply unpleasant (and not even competent) Farage.

      @Bedmoments 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@annphillips1086 you said you would disown them not that you would be saddened…… the left have proven themselves to be entirely intolerant and incredibly entitled and self righteous. You fail to see your own hypocrisy whilst trying to justify your position.
      Farage is a brilliant example of how a leader should be in a great country like England and the whole of the UK. He’s a patriot, he is not afraid of standing up for this country and he’s on the side of the people…. He will be in the hot seat in the next election after this one as people will be alarmed at the mess keir is going to make…. Get ready for the hiked up prices on everything and operation Detroit which is the pay per mile system…. Now that will be very interesting 😂

    I can’t watch any of the debates. The empty repeated phrases from either side, the made up facts, the ‘stump speeches’ - it’s doing my head in. The honest analysis of these guys - and analysts like them - is what’s keeping me interested in politics. Honest, open debates across the parties it’s what’s needed to restore faith in our system. True democracy.
