    Great review! Finally, a true successor to HD650. It took 19 years!

      Yes...sounds like a fresh new HD650 with a wider frequency response.

    • @angelOcrisu
      @angelOcrisu ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah. It needed to have 300ohm otherwise it's not consider a 600 serie Sennheiser by the "audiofiles" herd.
      I own the 660s and I wouldn't change it for anything.

      @@angelOcrisu I absolutely love my 660s. I wouldn’t change anything about them. The comfort is great and they just disappear on your head. Also built like tanks. Mine have taken a beating and they still look new.

      Better 650s doesn't sound as exciting as better 600s. All that 600s are lacking from being a perfect headphone is more bass and perhaps more sound stage. So are these 650s with better bass and more linear treble, or are these just 600s with better bass?

    As an ex owner of Hd 600 and current owner of Hd650 I can definitely say I have a lot of love for this series. Although Lcd-X, Hifiman He1000Se and Hd 800 are also part of the collection...the 600 series will always have a sweet spot in my heart, as sweet as theirs mids. They all SCALE LIKE HELL with top line dacs and amplifiers! Trust me, if you still think Hifiman Sundara is way better, as I often read...YOU DIDN'T DRIVE THEM TO THEIR FULLEST! I know not many people drive 400-500$ headphones with 5000$ systems, and maybe also doesn't make sense to do so , but...IF YOU DO...OOOH, BOY, what a surprise! Very good description, Sandu, I always appreciate a legend headphone and a legendary reviewer😃👍

    Do these compare to the Meze 109 Pro in any way?

    • @Soundnews
      @Soundnews  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes and No. 109 PRO are stronger in the bass and brighter in the treble...they could be hot sounding with wrong equipment. HD660 S2 are more linear and not as spicy, although not as technical, accurate and clean as 109 PRO. Here is my graph comparing them both: imgur.com/a/iQtGEcT

    • @Gcbyvr666
      @Gcbyvr666 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the review. I’d definitely prefer the HD660S2 from the graphs you provided. A few reviewers had commented that there is some strange sub bass stuff going on, and the treble is hot on the Meze 109 Pro. I have HD600 and HD650, and now I’m going to buy these new 660S2. I’m not a fan of HiFiman headphones as the are made in China and their QA has always been suspect, and the on,y have a 1 year warranty vs a 2 year warranty on Sennheiser. I’ve been a Sennheiser user for 45 years, and I’ve owned more than 10 different models and have never had an issue.

    I have the 660s2. Iv'e owned others including the 600 series to the 800S. The ONLY benefit of the overpriced 800S is the sense of "space". The 660s2 bass is better, period. Everything else is just as good as the overpriced 800S. The 660S2 are the flagship of the 600 series, and totally outperform my HD600 and the 650. They made me sell off my 800S.

    I have to admit that these have piqued my interest & I’m tempted. But the reality is that I don’t need them. I already have enough headphones in the sub 1k range that offer different perspectives on sonic reproduction.
    I expect Sennheiser headphones to offer good value. At $600, I expect the 660S2 to compete against headphones up to $1000. With that in mind, I’ll wait until I hear how they stand up to the 109, the Noire, the XS, the Ananda and others in the price range.
    To be honest, I kinda wished they had brought back an improved 700 Series headphone. There’s a glaring gap in their price range that needs to be filled!

    • @DKTD23
      @DKTD23 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine showed up today. It's not worth it at $600 considering its the same molds as the other 600 series and the box is even cheaper for them to pack now without the the hardshell casing. $400 at launch would've been more sensible.

      The sound on the HD660s2 is really impressive. The bass does go down to lower actives. The bass is not necessary louder but it goes down to lower frequencies and you can hear the instruments. You can hear the buzz from the guitar amp. Much more detail and not in your face highs. More relaxed. Good for rock. Ipad - Amazon Music HD Jeff Beck Wired 360 Wired. Using a Tube Quad PA-one DAC. You really hear much more detail and the sound is much more full than the HD600. The clamping force on the headphone is a bit strong. Hope it loosens up.

      HD 660S2.. I have the Ananda and a HD 660 S. I usually run with the Ananda but just recently went back to HD 660 S my wife use and out of my collection she prefers... I maybe was blind to how weak and thin the mids sounded on my Ananda.. Mid frequencies are probably one of the most important frequencies for music and I'm now considering selling my Ananda and HD 600 to grab a HD 660 S2.
      I'd say grab the HD 660S2... But if you need sound stage save some money and go with a Hifiman Arya if you can afford it. But I bet the HD 660S2 have a smoother frequency response than the Arya.
      I used to want more detail..and the Ananda gave me that but I lost the smoothness the HD 660 S provided to my ears...

At home, I'll use PC37x or 38x for gaming, or my LCD-X (2021) for music. My wife also has a pair of HD6xx for use at work. Guess we like Sennheiser, eh? 😅

      I noticed that also and make a comment. The sound in the video is terrible. Funny coming form someone that is reviewing high end headphones. A lot of people just can not hear very well and do not care how things sound. I am a little strange in that I am very sensitive to how things sound. When I review the headphones, I will let you know who they sound. I will pair it to my tube DAC and my dragonfly portable dac from my Iphone - If it can drive it.

    I can't believe they still don't fold flat.

    Meh, sounds like more of the same. They read like they sound too laid back to replace anything in my lineup. Maybe in another 19 years they'll figure out how to give us the best of the 600 & 800 series.

      The word "slightly" was used too much for me to spend $600 on a pair of headphones that are "slightly this" and "slightly that". Maybe a Black Friday deal but for now, thank you for a great review and for saving me a fair amount of cash. I'm sure I will get a pair just not right now.

    Man...I thought this channel is from a slavic country not Romania. You need to work on your english accent.
    I have the 1st 660 and will keep and enjoy them while they last. The best sound signature for me.
    Hai noroc.

      He needs to work on his English accent? Bit rude of you I think. Why should anyone put on an accent when speaking a foreign language?

      There's nothing wrong with his accent. He's easy to understand.
