Thanks for another great review, I'd love to see more Sennheiser reviews.
I will try to have more on the way! At least one should be confirmed soon too!
@@AudiophileHeaven Thank you, appreciate it :)
So thanks to you and other solid reviewers out there, I've got the HD660S2 coming here in another day to complement my now heavily used and abused 7 year old HD600s. They are on sale for $400 US now, which is a decent value for such a well designed and well built series of headphones. Always wait for them to go on the really good deep discounts/sales. That is how I snatched up my HD600s.
I can't wait to pair both with a great tube amp as my Atom 2 Desktop amp is a bit too analytical and neutral for all genres, and the Magni gets a bit grainy when turned up. That being said I can plug the HD600s right into my low end Samsung a32 phone and they still sound very good, just not nearly as detailed or loud as I often want.
I also have a small and not powerful 10 year old Sony Hi-Res DAP that does bring back much of that detail, way better and cleaner low end and gets as loud as I can handle. Battery still seems to last forever while using them which blows my mind, as I have to run it at nearly max volume to get to concert level.
The Atom2 desktop amp is extremely powerful (for a headphone amp) and I can't turn it up past halfway without making my ears bleed and the driver distort while using the HD600 cans.
That all being said I plan on getting a new portable DAC/Amp for the phone and a new DAP that can handle balanced connections that the HD6 series can take advantage of. What you and others have been describing tells me I am going to be very happy with these new cans because the HD600s have been a dream, but I do find them a bit too shouty in the mid range at times, for a few genres.
That and personally I don't like how they respond to EQ. No EQ always comes off as more natural and pleasing to me when using them, and I could always detect some distortion even with rather subtle changes, so I just allow my ears to get used that mid-range and it has mostly worked for me. After many hours it can however become fatiguing, at least to me. Also I want a bit more sub bass and detail as well as the slightly increased soundstage. Sounds like a perfect upgrade to my ears and should allow me to listen for longer and to genres I tend to avoid when using the HD600s.
Also I've done just about everything I could to destroy the HD600s and I can't even find a scratch on them! I have ran over the stock cable with super heavy chairs almost daily and I sometimes yank them off my head and they slam onto the floor because I stepped on the cord when I got up. They have hit the ground so many times I've lost count but they just keep marching on. Despite all this unspeakable evil I have done to them, they sound perfect and are clearly built to last despite the cheap plastic look. The velvety tank of a stock cable is still perfectly working somehow, but I do replace the pads at least every 2 years to maintain the sound quality. That is really the only downside as replacement pads cost nearly $60. I have lost count of how many headphones died when I dropped them or yanked on cords a bit too hard. Many times only after a few spills. These have been worth every penny on that strongpoint alone, not to mention the excellent overall SQ and intimate sound it provides.
Cheers!
Woah, super nice to hear you're having so much fun!!
@@juqual78 so, did you liked ?
Worth the upgrade ?
@@juqual78 hey do you have carpet on your floor? What material is the floor?
Hi great informative video, I have 660s, and now have s2, yes better bass extension, however I do have 6xx with custom cans bass mod, and 660s2 just slightly better on my 6xx, I only got the s2 as got open box for only £269, they currently £399, only recently gone up as were £359, I have changed out the pads for 33mm as well to help with sound signature as the same for my 6xx and 660s. Regards mark
Ah, good info! I do not search the pricing on them except for official launch price, or market price if launch price is not available anymore. It is hard to dercide what I should use for comparisons, the current market price, or price at launch
Hi thanks for reply, since I posted my message they have gone up but the price from sennheiser is £499, and at that price point I think is rather high as the S had that great hinged box, yes does come with pouch though, I have a proper sennheiser thick vinyl bag . I recently replaced the pads with 33mm ones abs a van damme silver plated cables . Regards mark
Hello, for a multi-purpose headphone, that will also be used in competitive gaming, is this a good option? ( sorry i already added a similar comment on another review from you channel, the HifiMan Ananda Nano ).
One idea, you should do 1 or 2 videos about best DACs and headphones for multi-purpose use including games :D it would be awesome! ehehe
Love your channel, congrats!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I think that Ananda Nano is better for gaming, lighter, more comfy, more bass impact, easier to drive, I can try a series with what products are best for gaming, but so far all the videos I made about gaming headphones or gaming DACs didn't perform very well...
How do they compare to the Meze 109 pro, is the Meze worth the extra cost? I had the 660s and found it to bright and thin. My amp used is JDS atom
I would suggest getting AMP 2 if you can, it is better than the original, just finished my video review and written review about it, will send it to be edited. As for the comparuison, 109 PRO is not as bright, it is thicker, more natural sounding, but also more dynamic, more punchy, it is a bit of an upgrade if you enjoy a live presentation. 660 S2 brings some details forward that 109 PRO doesn't , especially in the upper midrnage, while 109 PRO brings the bass forward more
@@AudiophileHeaven thank you so much for your feedback! You have awesome, honest, and accurate reviews, keep it up!!
Still use Sennheiser HD465s to listen to my Blues/Rock, which have given years of faithful service, with no problems, Sennheiser represent great value for your cash outlay.
Enjoy your video👏😁
Thank you so much, and happy to have you here!! I hope you'll keep having as much fun, and I hope that whicever headphone you decide to go for will be a lot of fun and super enjoyable!
Impedance: 300 ohms -i wonder if my phone can drive these headphones. I'm tempted to get them for my Geshelli headphone amp though ,that thing can drive anything. Thanks for the Review AH . Good niight from Canada
Happy to have you here!
Good night out there, and while phones wouldn't drive them for sure, that one amp should!
consider the HD660S (version 1) it has less bass but still has a great tuning. It is 150ohm. Both are fairly sensitive but the HD660S can easily be driven by a modern iphone and Apple dongle.
@@malfunkt I had the first version too, more congested sound, I think it was very different, not bad by any means...
As for the driving power, neither can't be driven well out of an apple dongle, the sound would be too quiet and presentation not satisfying to justify things. There are dongles that can drive them for sure, but not apple basic dongle, more like Questyle M15, iBasso DC04PRO, Shanling UA5, many out there, but apple's dongle is best for IEMs and really efficient headphopnes for the best experience
@@AudiophileHeaven well I find that Apple dongle fine and believe it or not even enjoyed it with my Focal Utopia.
Great to see you enjoying so many different sounds! I’ve curtailed my purchasing, mostly because I realized there is probably no end to the headphones and iems I’d like!! Lol.
So for now keeping my 660s as my only overeat set.
Is the FiiO K7 powerful enough for these headphones?
Yes, K7 should be more than enough! I am using them a lot with K9 PRO, but K7 also has plenty power
@@AudiophileHeaven i just got into audiophile stuff at an entry level by getting the fiio k7 bt and 660s2, have little experience to compare them to but they sound good. glad to know this dac/amp is enough for the 300 ohms
❤
Happy to have you here!
