I had heard Donnie sing this a long time ago, but I didn't know the name of the song or Donnies last name!
I tried numerous times over the few years, and finally found it today, but it didn't sound the same, two different artists yet I didn't get the same heart feeling.
Well now I know! Only Donnie can sing this amazing Love story the way I remember it.

I have liked this song since it came out. At an all night sign in Hutchinson, Ks. he was singing this song and LaVerne Tripp was singing I'll Get My Reward, both over and over trying to get the song of the year and as you know this one won. Both are awesome and LaVerne's is going to be sang at my funeral. I am retired law enforcement and that song is very fitting.

I had the honor and the pleasure of meeting this amazing gentleman in Tennessee at the Gospel Country Music Awards and had the honor of singing on two records produced by Mr. Sumner. The two songs were released by Ready Records, Curtis Andrews, who gave this incredibly blessed opportunity. Donnie Sumner has one of the MOST impeccable and truly beautiful male voices I have ever heard! Precious memories that I hold dear. XO

I remember the year this came out and he won Top Song. He sang this several times and LaVerne Tripp sang I'll Get My Reward several times at the Hutchinson Kansas All Night Sing. Both GREAT songs, but Donnie ended up winning that the end of the year. Also that year my dad died the night before Easter so this song means a lot to me.

His father was pastor of my home church (Crisfield, MD Church of God) when Donnie was a teenager.
His father was my pastor in Lexington, Ky. In 70s.
Donnie's father, Russell H Sumner, was CoG Overseer of Southern New England. It was at the annual CoG Camp Meeting in Connecticut that we first met Donnie. This was a year after Donnie had left ELVIS & had returned to the LORD JESUS. At the annual CoG State Men's Fellowship meeting on Saturday, Donnie gave his testimony, played piano & sang from his heart just like in this song! What a blessing Donnie's testimony & singing was to everyone. . . much rejoicing & praising God, our Heavenly Father!

Donnie's real father was killed in a bar fight when Donnie was a baby. His father's brother, Russell Sumner, raised Donnie. Donnie's mother was absent, also.
