Arty, we have lost about 10 cats for different reasons during our 22 years marriage so I know exactly how you fool. What helped us was to take a bit time to mourn and afterwards ask our local cat protection organizations and look for cats who are in need. Our animal shelters are complaining for non-fundings by our Germany politicians but when people ask for a dog/cat they throw spanners in the works and look for reasons why they won't let people have an animal. Thats why we avoid animal homes/shelters or whatever you call them. We only ask our local private organizations, as they are more than happy that they can convey/provide us one of their animals.
