Like being able to play 8K photo's and video's lol. i'm not sure the average consumer is interested the coming year or 2, especially if they see 8k TV prices. Also, 4K TV's are finally "Cheap" since the past year or 2. Many people still need to upgrade to 4K.
@Moogle Midgar Death Stranding have wonderful assets, Control have the most advanced ray tracing implementations in games to date. Even COD MW only implement ray tracing for shadows. But I agree with you that COD MW is better than Metro Exodus. As for Gears 5, my opinion is that game have very good performance for the fidelity it offers.
9900k/2080Ti on 3440x1440 I have yet to see shit graphics, Control looks amazing, I played through it originally on a 8700k/1080ti and was decent but a second time through with RTX was completely different experience, just a shame RTX really isnt being implemented more..

I don't know how they got his eyes to look so fantastic. It's all I could look at while he was on screen, it's a shame that the rest of the character's eyes didn't match the same level of quality.

to me death stranding is a win because of one aspect that accelerates graphic experience but not many people are talking about it. it's not about how it looks, but how it moves. the physics of death stranding, how the legs interact with different terrains, how in intense times the expression of sam is not wooden, face expressions, etc. skyrim could look very good with mods, but the physics and how to character moves will never be replaced by any mods to respond such details of the environment, the movement and expression will always be wooden
What about RDR2? Completely maxed out on PC, it is the best looking game I've played (haven't played metro exodus yet). Why did it not even get mentioned?

Spot on, I hate how people say all the time "heavily modded Skyrim looks soooo next gen, better than anything else" Frankly, those people are blind. That engine and its animations were already outdated even at the game's launch in 2011. Put it against ANY decent game in the last 6-7 years and it pales in comparison. The physics of the engine are terrible. The worst part is that they still use some variant of that dated engine for Fallout games.
(Re-)Watching this in april 2020 and hearing John say “next year is gonna get crazier...” (@39:40) brought a tear to my eye. But overall it was great fun hearing two nerds geeking out over stuff that I don’t even notice, let alone understand, half the time! Here’s hoping that the new consoles will not be delayed into 2021 and we will get to enjoy many more videos oh-ing and ah-ing over the next gen’s leap in performance, graphical and otherwise!

Norman Reedus looks so confused in death stranding all the time, which is quite representative of what the player feels, which makes for a starkly immersive experience.
It definitely did. I'm not the biggest fan of the game but they really did something special with that game and for the first time, a call of duty game has better graphics than any battlefield game. That's shocking to realize considering how long it's taken them to pull off
@@HugoStiglitz88 It's not hard to beat Battlefield when Bf5 has worse presentation than Bf1. They focused too much in Ray Tracing and just let everything else pretty much the same. In fact, I would argue animations are worse in Bf5. It doesn't help that the game it's a broken mess.

Yeah the thing about BF5 that's just utterly mind blowing are some of the dynamic special effects. The way the wind whips fire, smoke and snow in front of you can be breathtaking at times.

Having played them all on a 2080 super (minus DS), Metro Exodus, is the game that stands out the most. It's the game I want to go back to play the most and I've never played either of the prequels for it. It is just insanely gorgeous and atmospheric with Ray tracing pumped up! Best graphical game I've ever played!
Death Stranding and Gears 5 are the usual example of the end of life of a console circle were the developers know so much about the system and had twick their engines to the best level possible to fully unitilize the system. I bet Ghost of Tsushima will be another such title when it comes out next year and by the end of the year it may be the only title that makes it to such a video despite being on previous consoles by then and not having ray tracing etc. Well The last of Us II may also make it.
They don't surpass PC, though. If you've seen ray tracing in Control or RDR2 on PC in ultra, you'd know why. He only says that because it's an opinion, much like many things in this video.
Great choices guys. For me Death Stranding, RE2, Plague Tale, Metro Exodus. Gears 5 a near miss. Fantastic interiors but very bland and weakly designed exteriors. Fast forward a year and you just know Last Of Us 2 and Cyberpunk will be on this list... PS Quixel being incorporated into Unreal 4 is seriously major. Nice move Epic.

Death stranding is the best over all its just perfect every thing i would want in a first person game with zombies lol. Its so realistic looking just unbelievable shame this isn't my type of game i like the use of linda wagner in a computer game its was nice to see maybe we will start to get more famous stars in games for the future and make use of there acting skills in a unique way .
Agree with every game on this list. While this year may not have been so good in terms of quality game releases, the jump in graphical presentation continues to get better year after year. Ive been playing games for 20 years and this year has blown me away with some of the games on this list. Im playing through Control right now with RTX and its absolutely mindblowing! As always, great job DF, this is my favorite channel on YT! Keep up the good work :)
I'd really like to see if you guys could find out how devs will use AI/MachineLearning to help create in game development. There is some exciting technology out there. I think Nvidia has a lot going on there.

And yet it laks so much details when you compare it to Gears of War 2...and thats a fact....the impact of the bullits in objects, reflections in the mirrors, when you shoot objects they disapear and so on and so on.....all of that was much better in Gears of War 2... FACT.....
So, I don't know if somebody already wrote this in the comments but I can say how Plague Tale achieved these wonderful assets. They used MegaScans (which is now free on UE4, which is revolutionary for small studios in my opinion) Also, this studio is the same that develops Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 so their future looks bright
Good picks guys. Personally I find Death Stranding more realistic looking than Metro Exodus especially in the character models, world density and lighting. Both are excellent looking games tho. Decima on PS5 would be too much for TH-cam lol.
I think the Decima engine is the best because it works well even at relatively low computational performance. It is an economical and eco-friendly game engine that is a step up from Fox Engine.
A Plague Tale so underrated. It's not just graphics... Soundtrack and the voice acting TOP fckn NOTCH. Gameplay is basic yet fine, story telling using gaming as a medium great. They achieved great things with this game. Congratz and thanks to that studio. I hope they get bigger.

@@huaweilayhill9182 We're talking about a super natural event effecting the area SUPERNATURALLY under a unspecified period of time. The geology isn't gonna completely matter in a 100% realistic sense when you have ghosts coming out and exploding supernaturally.
Metro Exodus absolutely blew my mind. It made the purchase of 2070 super worth every penny, haven't had this much enjoyment out of game in a very long while. The short mission with cannibals was one of the most memorable gaming moments ever lol. And graphics are so good. And (for the most part), above 60-70fps on 1440p, so very playable. Dips in few spots with a lot of shadows/lights, but even then I had no issues playing through it.
I know it's not strictly a 2019 game but the Red Dead 2 PC release has easily some of the best graphics I've ever seen. Playing at 4K it's stunning and with gsync enabled the 40s and 50s framerate is acceptable. Unfortunately you do need both a 2080ti and a 4K gysnc screen, but, if you've neglected to have a child and found yourself with a decent amount of disposable income, it's highly recommended.
B K that’s why I play at 3440x1440. Nice crisp image that looks better due to the higher aspect ratio but my 2080ti is capable of putting out higher fps than if I was to game at 4K

And most importantly is Facial animation Physic in TLOU !! This is what most games lack of, currently the only games that show this is only TLOU and Hellblade 2 on Xbox Series X. But hellblade is only trailer. Idk how their gameplay will look like. But TLOU is beast, they are too far ahead to compare to RDR2 in term of graphic.
@@Unknown-fd4zh It's not even a fair comparison, one is an extremely linear game, the other is a massive open world. This alone makes RDR2 suffer in the amount of detail you can squeeze from it. What they accomplished on the PS4/Xbox One is already impressive. Naughty Dog on the other hand is known for pulling ridiculous tricks to make their games look way too nice for the hardware they're developed for. Hell, when they worked on Crash Bandicoot back in 1996 for the original Playstation, Sony thought Naughty Dog pulled a fake montage because they didn't think their own hardware was capable of running what was being shown.
Plague tale innocence blew me away. I cant believe such a small team did such a good job on the visuals. But not only that, they made a game that is better than any of the shit AAA developers put out there these days. Incredible game.

A Plague Tale looks amazing, but I wish we could get a remaster with RT since the fly in the graphical ointment is the SSAO shadows always flickering at the edge of the screen as geometry moves in and out. The art is amazing in Plague Tale, I would love to see that fixed. It shows the limitations of screen space graphical hacks. RT isn't just a nice-to-have feature going forward; graphics are getting to the point where screen space artifacts are the ugliest things onscreen.
From a presentation to graphics and performance and gameplay I honestly feel gears 5 wipes the floor with deathstranding having a game look that good all rendered in real time in engine at 60fps 4k on a console is an achievement. I would be on board with deathstranding had its core gameplay not been so dull

Didn’t think for a second this game was gonna be enjoyed by everyone as it’s different in its slow paced terrain traversal approach. I personally love it a lot but it’s understandable that some others are not gonna so much. It most certainly does not “suck” at all. It’s understandable if you find it boring or uninteresting but to me and a lot of people can find it engaging and compelling to find traversal and land exploration calming and a relaxing experience.

Transformers 4 was the first eye candy movie I saw where despite the amazing CGI I couldn't wait for the content to be over. Some people have complained (and praised) Death Stranding's gameplay. It's good to know that it's a worthwhile experience just for the beautiful artwork alone.

I don't know anything about development of games, but judging by Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding and considering the platform, I think Decima engine is a 3d graphics miracle machine.
Since I played HZD I kept wondering how other games would look in Decima. The build of the machines in HZD, the stacking of parcels in DS, scenery in both, so many details looking good and working well together.
the best looking game iv played this year has to be days gone... it just looked stunning and the way weather works in that game is amazing. imo one of the most underrated games this gen. Death stranding is a amazing technical achievement but Days gone for me is hands down the best looking game of 2019 RE2, Dmc and gears 5 also high marks of this year. Gears 5 also looked very good on Pc but Days gone was just on another level.
Hadrian Veska yes iv played both death stranding and control, days gone certainly looks great, the weather effects where snowfall changes the landscape has not been done in any other game.

It definitely did. I'm not the biggest fan of the game but they really did something special with that game and for the first time, a call of duty game has better graphics than any battlefield game. That's shocking to realize considering how long it's taken them to pull off

@@HugoStiglitz88 It's not hard to beat Battlefield when Bf5 has worse presentation than Bf1. They focused too much in Ray Tracing and just let everything else pretty much the same. In fact, I would argue animations are worse in Bf5. It doesn't help that the game it's a broken mess.

Yeah the thing about BF5 that's just utterly mind blowing are some of the dynamic special effects. The way the wind whips fire, smoke and snow in front of you can be breathtaking at times.

Having played them all on a 2080 super (minus DS), Metro Exodus, is the game that stands out the most. It's the game I want to go back to play the most and I've never played either of the prequels for it. It is just insanely gorgeous and atmospheric with Ray tracing pumped up! Best graphical game I've ever played!

Death Stranding and Gears 5 are the usual example of the end of life of a console circle were the developers know so much about the system and had twick their engines to the best level possible to fully unitilize the system. I bet Ghost of Tsushima will be another such title when it comes out next year and by the end of the year it may be the only title that makes it to such a video despite being on previous consoles by then and not having ray tracing etc. Well The last of Us II may also make it.
That moment when a console game graphics surpass those of the PC... Plague Tale looked amazing though, that game snuck by me.
They don't surpass PC, though. If you've seen ray tracing in Control or RDR2 on PC in ultra, you'd know why. He only says that because it's an opinion, much like many things in this video.

Great choices guys. For me Death Stranding, RE2, Plague Tale, Metro Exodus. Gears 5 a near miss. Fantastic interiors but very bland and weakly designed exteriors.
Fast forward a year and you just know Last Of Us 2 and Cyberpunk will be on this list...

Death stranding is the best over all its just perfect every thing i would want in a first person game with zombies lol. Its so realistic looking just unbelievable shame this isn't my type of game i like the use of linda wagner in a computer game its was nice to see maybe we will start to get more famous stars in games for the future and make use of there acting skills in a unique way .

Not on my PC. On my PC gears 4 looks and runs better and oddly my ancient cpu isn't the cause.
And yet it laks so much details when you compare it to Gears of War 2...and thats a fact....the impact of the bullits in objects, reflections in the mirrors, when you shoot objects they disapear and so on and so on.....all of that was much better in Gears of War 2... FACT.....

So, I don't know if somebody already wrote this in the comments but I can say how Plague Tale achieved these wonderful assets. They used MegaScans (which is now free on UE4, which is revolutionary for small studios in my opinion)
Also, this studio is the same that develops Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 so their future looks bright
Good picks guys. Personally I find Death Stranding more realistic looking than Metro Exodus especially in the character models, world density and lighting. Both are excellent looking games tho. Decima on PS5 would be too much for TH-cam lol.

I think the Decima engine is the best because it works well even at relatively low computational performance.
It is an economical and eco-friendly game engine that is a step up from Fox Engine.

A Plague Tale so underrated. It's not just graphics... Soundtrack and the voice acting TOP fckn NOTCH. Gameplay is basic yet fine, story telling using gaming as a medium great. They achieved great things with this game. Congratz and thanks to that studio. I hope they get bigger.

Metro Exodus absolutely blew my mind. It made the purchase of 2070 super worth every penny, haven't had this much enjoyment out of game in a very long while. The short mission with cannibals was one of the most memorable gaming moments ever lol. And graphics are so good. And (for the most part), above 60-70fps on 1440p, so very playable. Dips in few spots with a lot of shadows/lights, but even then I had no issues playing through it.

I know it's not strictly a 2019 game but the Red Dead 2 PC release has easily some of the best graphics I've ever seen. Playing at 4K it's stunning and with gsync enabled the 40s and 50s framerate is acceptable. Unfortunately you do need both a 2080ti and a 4K gysnc screen, but, if you've neglected to have a child and found yourself with a decent amount of disposable income, it's highly recommended.
Gsync for what freesync works as well
B K that’s why I play at 3440x1440. Nice crisp image that looks better due to the higher aspect ratio but my 2080ti is capable of putting out higher fps than if I was to game at 4K

But hellblade is only trailer. Idk how their gameplay will look like. But TLOU is beast, they are too far ahead to compare to RDR2 in term of graphic.
@@Unknown-fd4zh It's not even a fair comparison, one is an extremely linear game, the other is a massive open world. This alone makes RDR2 suffer in the amount of detail you can squeeze from it. What they accomplished on the PS4/Xbox One is already impressive. Naughty Dog on the other hand is known for pulling ridiculous tricks to make their games look way too nice for the hardware they're developed for. Hell, when they worked on Crash Bandicoot back in 1996 for the original Playstation, Sony thought Naughty Dog pulled a fake montage because they didn't think their own hardware was capable of running what was being shown.
Plague tale innocence blew me away. I cant believe such a small team did such a good job on the visuals. But not only that, they made a game that is better than any of the shit AAA developers put out there these days. Incredible game.

A Plague Tale looks amazing, but I wish we could get a remaster with RT since the fly in the graphical ointment is the SSAO shadows always flickering at the edge of the screen as geometry moves in and out. The art is amazing in Plague Tale, I would love to see that fixed.
It shows the limitations of screen space graphical hacks. RT isn't just a nice-to-have feature going forward; graphics are getting to the point where screen space artifacts are the ugliest things onscreen.
Death Stranding running on my 2013 launch PS4 looks better than 99% of Xbox's games.
From a presentation to graphics and performance and gameplay I honestly feel gears 5 wipes the floor with deathstranding having a game look that good all rendered in real time in engine at 60fps 4k on a console is an achievement. I would be on board with deathstranding had its core gameplay not been so dull

Didn’t think for a second this game was gonna be enjoyed by everyone as it’s different in its slow paced terrain traversal approach. I personally love it a lot but it’s understandable that some others are not gonna so much.
It most certainly does not “suck” at all. It’s understandable if you find it boring or uninteresting but to me and a lot of people can find it engaging and compelling to find traversal and land exploration calming and a relaxing experience.

I would never say this game "sucks" because it clearly had a vision and the world is fascinating. Also, it would be dumb for me to knock anyone who actually enjoys the gameplay. It's just not for me. It's one of those that I keep wanting to return to, but every time I do, I remember why I stopped. It's a shame because I want to like it. Good for anyone who enjoys it, but I'm not going to force myself to play something that I find more frustrating than anything.

Transformers 4 was the first eye candy movie I saw where despite the amazing CGI I couldn't wait for the content to be over. Some people have complained (and praised) Death Stranding's gameplay. It's good to know that it's a worthwhile experience just for the beautiful artwork alone.

I don't know anything about development of games, but judging by Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding and considering the platform, I think Decima engine is a 3d graphics miracle machine.
Since I played HZD I kept wondering how other games would look in Decima. The build of the machines in HZD, the stacking of parcels in DS, scenery in both, so many details looking good and working well together.
the best looking game iv played this year has to be days gone... it just looked stunning and the way weather works in that game is amazing. imo one of the most underrated games this gen.
Death stranding is a amazing technical achievement but Days gone for me is hands down the best looking game of 2019

Hadrian Veska yes iv played both death stranding and control, days gone certainly looks great, the weather effects where snowfall changes the landscape has not been done in any other game.
You might want to play the new RTX version of Deliver Us the Moon and revise your list. Or at least cover in a separate video. It the most feature-rich version of RTX to date. Stunning!
