Try a Tablo, it can DVR all your local OTA shows. Its fantastic! I have the Tablo DUAL that includes about 50 hours of recording time, but I plugged in a 2TB drive and have about 1500 hours of HD recording time. I access the Tablo from apps on my Apple TV 4K and a Roku. Never need to change inputs on the TV.
I cut the Cable TV cord the day they switched from analog to digital broadcast 10 years ago. I've been using Channel Master DVR's ever since. Work great! But I will also go check out the Tablo as I wasn't aware of them as I had no need to research because my current stuff works fine.
Are the local channels integrated into the guide. In other words when you are using the grid guide can you click to the local channels directly. There was a time when the local channels were not accessible from the grid guide.
The air tv 2 local channels are not coming in good on my tv since the upgrade. Before the upgrade I hook the antenna to back of the blue white sling box had no trouble with otc but now it's a problem
Which American based Roku app/channel has the most live TV? I see there are lots of Roku apps/channels that need you to have a cable plan in order for the Roku app/channel to work so which one of those would give you the most live TV if you also had a cable TV account? Which one is best?
So the AirTV mini is the firetv stick version of the AirTV player. You can’t get local content with it alone. You would have to purchase the AirTV (not the player) with an antenna hooked up to watch that local content. Now it works as Android TV so if you don’t want to purchase that extra equipment, you might want to see if an app called Locast is available in the play store for the device AND that locast supports your city. It’s completely free and streams local tv. You would have to go to the app to watch it, but might be worth not dropping another $100
Hey, I just got sling and I’m about to order the antenna. If I just order the antenna, will that be all I need for local channels? And should I go indoor or outdoor?
If you want to use your TV for local channels then yes. If you want them in Sling then you need the AirTV player. The indoor/outdoor depends on your area in respect to the broadcasting antennas. There are some excellent online tools to help you determine that.
So I currently own two Roku 4K Streaming Sticks with the headphone jacks so I can watch TV while my wife sleeps. I use the sling app on my two streaming sticks, so is there any way for me to integrate local channels without having to switch to a completely different streaming device? I’m assuming AirTV is its own streaming device, with less popular features.
AirTV and AirTV 2. Adds the OTA channels to SlingTV apps on a number of devices, Roku included. Added benefit is you can place it wherever you get the strongest antenna signal in your home and have it work over WiFi
Will AirTV solve my issue of having to purchase several channel apps to watch my sports teams? I have Sling Tv so when I want watch my football team during the season. I have to purchase a CBS, NBC, and the extended sports app just so I can see all the games. I’m hoping AirTV will solve this issue. Thanks
You will get all your local channels that your antenna can pick up. So you wouldn’t need the apps for local games, but it’s not going to help if the games are on ESPN or anything
Not sure if you have already answered this question yet but will this airtv box cover all TVs that you have sling in your home or will you need a box for each different tv?
This is a set top box. You would need one for each tv. If you have multiple tv’s especially a smart tv, I would suggest the AirTv and not the AirTV player. It will integrate with most SlingTV apps even your mobile devices!
the purpose of watching this video was to find out more about the local channels and you only touched on it briefly. Is the local channels live or do I have to wait until a day after like with HULU? the storage service, does it record local channels and how many can you record at one time? Come on are you giving us a review or working for SLING?
Local channels are live. Recording isn’t available for local channels. Sorry if you feel misled, but it’s actually a review of the AirTV player and the Sling service as a whole. And man I wish I was working for them.
First I would like to say that this is regarding the air TVPlayer and not the air TV. That will be a separate review coming soon. You still need the antenna. The air TVPlayer just pulls those over the air channels into Sling TV so you don’t need to leave the app to watch any live TV. Roku would be a completely separate experience
So if you're already watching Sling via Fire Stick, you have to add ANOTHER device, and also have to switch back and forth between the two to watch anything outside of Sling. Same problem.
That’s not how it works. It ties in sling local tv and even Netflix. Other streaming apps are available too. So actually less switching unless you want to play Blu-ray or use a PS4 or something
I have a Firestick and want to use Sling through that. If I connect an HD Antenna to the back of my TV will Sling recognize it? Or am I required to have AirTV?
I don't get it? If I lived in the area why do I need a sling antenna to watch free TV? Can't I just watch it with my TV? I get it if you live in another country and want to watch American TV through a VPN but why does someone living local need Sling? Why would there TV with a standard TV antenna not pick up local terrestrial TV?
This allows you to watch local broadcast TV within the Sling app so you have all your live TV in one place with one channel guide. Then you don’t have to switch inputs. You can also record local TV using an external drive
Thanks for posting. I have had my AirTV for a few months now. To me it is the best streaming product no one ever talks about...well if you plan on using Sling I guess. Will be interesting to see the new AirTV two, it is up on the Website but not a ton of details yet.
I don't think it really slings fault for not having local channels, it's more of the manufacturers fault (aka; Amazon, Google, Apple, etc) for not adding in a coaxil access so it'll receive local channels by air without having to switch off.
Well it’s mainly because they don’t broker deals with the networks to provide local channels like cable and satellite providers do. There are some available like fox and NBC, but the rest you need to get OTA. It’s not really about fault though. This video is about the solution they came up with and the added convenience it adds.

Yes the remote has the ability to control tv volume and on/off functions
Had the unfortunate opportunity to test that out today. No, OTA channels are unavailable when your internet connection is down
BenderTube aww sucks, I mean u can always keep the TV remote nearby to switch over inputs but it would have been nice to just keep track of one controller especially at night
Yeah it’s a little disappointing. I was also hoping it could just watch OTA TV when the internet is out. I knew I wouldn’t have guide access, but it would have been nice to be able to just to go the channel
I GUESS HE DOESNT KNOW THAT THERE AN ADAPTER TO WATCH OTA CHANNELS
Sorry I neglected that in the video, but the Sling offer comes with the adapter and the AirTV site has it plastered everywhere that you need the adapter.
Also I thought you died. You look good.
YOU ARE DEAD !!!
But at least we know there’s internet and OTA TV in hell
you tube tv has gone up to 64..i will be canceling it
And their reasoning is the exact opposite of what they said when they started out
HD HOMERUN CONNECT VS AIR TV 2
I’ll see what I can do
I went with TH-cam TV because I get CBS, NBC, ABC and fox all live. I can't get local live with Sling.
If you go with the AirTV w/ the OTA adapter you will get EVERY local channel. Just can’t record the OTA channels at the moment
BenderTube I just ditched cable this week. I plan on hooking up an HD antenna at some point as well. I can reevaluate then since I will have more options. Nice video!
Thanks! It is definitely worth looking at any other streaming service since YT TV gives you the least amount of channels for your money
BenderTube I do need an antenna to get local with air TV right?
Yes.
Was fine till you blurted that horrible blasphemy. Thumbs down. Its not like the content was that detailed anyway.
You're right. How dare I say an unkind word about the Flash
Bro cut the music it’s annoying as shit
Dude... GET TO THE POINT!!!
Right?!? This dude takes forever. Like who the hell has 4 minutes to hear about a streaming TV service AND an all-in-one set top box?
$35 a month. LOLOLOLOLOL
And how much does live TV cost from Comcast/Cox? How much do the other live TV streaming services cost?
@@BenderTubeOG Sorry, I may have no clarified that. In this video it's stated that TH-camTV costs $35/mnth, which of course this is an older video. So I laughed because they want allllll the way to 65 and it's still going to climb as they add useless networks we don't always care about.
@@Nathanallenpinard yeah YT TV is not a deal at all these days. Not even for the YT Premium content
@@BenderTubeOG
Locast is only $5/mo...
Locast is broadcast TV. Pay for an antenna once and never pay again. Sling offers premium networks. And if you want local tv integrated you can get the AirTV hardware and only pay for it once. It doesn’t even require for paid Sling TV service
I considered subscribing till I heard you use the name of our Lord as a swear word. Good bye!
Not sure to whom you refer, but my Lord, Lord Helix, has no issues using it’s name in vain
You said "Jesus Christ" and you used it as a swear word.
Exodus 20:7
7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
OK I was kind of jokingly trying to mention that we may not have the same religion, But you didn’t get that. It’s cool. Sorry if your offended you. I am sure there are plenty of other tech reviewers who are more your speed
Please be aware that I want you to know that I'm not trying to bash you or argue with you. I'm really trying to be kind and helpful. God does not recognize different religions. He gave us one set of rules in the bible and that's it. He said to us in John 14:6 "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me." Using the name of Jesus as an adjective will not be forgotten by God. That's all I want you to be aware of. God bless!
You must be a riot at parties.
