Think their value really shines a couple years down the road where they drop wayy down in price
There's going to be a lot of laptop makers using these chips. There'll be cheaper laptops.
Yeah, unless you’re a tech reviewer or someone like collecting all things tech like me. Just wait.
@@AndrewDavie-er3ug Yes true but I have an old iPad and would like to get back to a windows laptop but not crazy expensive and the choices are confusing me. Not looking to go editing or gaming but needs to be fast-ish and smooth. Asus vivobook ? HP Spectre x360 ? the other 50 brands of windows laptops haha. I am lost.
Obviously, not looking to pay 1500$
@@bradavon not happening, unless snapdragon makes s vheaper designed chip
@@sofianebenzaza If you can get your hands on a year ish old Surface in new condition, you will be set. I had Pro 4, used it for 4+ years, only replaced it due to online college during COVID & I could only afford 4GB RAM version then. Replaced it the 2020 Spectre X360 and I regret my decision so much. The Surface rarely ever gave me issues except camera maybe twice in 4 years, which was fixed easily thru the Microsoft Forums. This X360 has weird display issues, randomly display shuts off for 3 seconds and restarts, Battery life is a lot less than other laptops, fans sound horrible, camera is so trash windows hello recognizes me 50% of the time, fingerprint sensor is useless despite setting up the same finger in all kinds of ways. Now this is an old model and I surely am thankful for it, but I badly miss my Surface Pro 4 and the 2in1 factor for my desk setup w/extra monitor. It is still being used by family friend who needed something for less demanding college work.
Like, none of these reviews popping up today have any kind of first hand use experiences.... such a waste of the upload. We've seen the press releases months ago.
the press release from months back was from qualcolm itself. This is microsoft press release. In other words still too early for actual review . June 18th is when some of oems will be selling laptops.
I have always dreamed about being able to edit 4K, 10-Bit, C-log,2 footage on the Surface tablet.. would be sweet to have some one testing that.
Just do it on an iPad Pro. Who would wanna edit video on the Surface Pro’s display? Zero anti-glare. Worse glare I’ve ever seen on a tablet.
@@indyjones720 iPad does not work with premiere pro at the moment :)
I do video work for a living and does have the whole big fancy setup with big editing pcs and 4 screens and all.. but would be so cool to have a remote setup to take with me sometimes.
Ipads are great.. but I use my iPad pro more for illustrator sketching to use in aftereffects when using a ipad for anything
The detachable keyboard seems like a game changer.
Great for keyboard shortcuts for artists
I think this is the only main changes on surface line since two years ago.
@@christopherng5847 still better than the ipad
Huawei has been doing this for about a year now, detachable keyboard
@@jamesscott2368 yeah well it’s new to surfaces
The larger trackpad and bluetooth is what we have been asking for from the type cover.
more like the haptic trackpad, god have i been waiting for that to arrive. immediately pre-ordered it.
Dude, the price of new keyboard plus pen is $450 😵
Excited for the future with better battery life and maybe fanless designs but they need sort out the software compatibility with Arm on Windows.
Boss level quickness on this video! 👏🏻
cringe ahh response
Are the key caps as flat as they look on video? Laptop keyboards with dished key caps are much better to type on.
Will sleep mode work normally on arm chip? Coz on my razer and dell laptops sleep mode (when closing the laptop lid) works as shit. It looks like on all windows laptops these is a some problem inside system long long time already that prevents the computer from falling asleep completely and from accidentally turning on the fans or draining the battery while sleeping so i should turn off it completly before taking it somewhere... In the same time i can close my old 2014 macbook 1000 times a day, or close it for a week or so in a sleep mode and when i open it, it is on the same battely level, no heating issues while sleeping and so...
Which laptop would you recommend for someone who is starting a CS degree and plans on using the same computer till the end of the course? I was thinking about buying a macbook air m2x, but I’m still considering a dell xps, lenovo thinkpad or maybe even the new microsoft surface. I’ve been using a lenovo laptop until now, I’ve already used for a previous degree, but its life didn’t seem to last too long. And since I’ve been using an ipad for a long time and now I have an iphone, I thought about giving a try to a MBA
@Matthew Moniz Is the bezel on the 15 inch bigger than the 13 inch? Feels like they only made the bezel on the 13 smaller but can't tell unless they're side by side.
Thinking to get this one this week with ultra 5 chip, I am not going to game on it at all, will do office works and compiler for codes . Is the Sahara Silver color looks good in person . Don’t want blue or black for the fingerprint .
I just hope the software is ready for this new platform.
Most popular browsers, all Microsoft apps, popular IDEs and some Adobe apps, Davinci Resolve are already available. Games will take some time
They are not !
x86 Emulation isn't slow by any means. It is just as good as Rosetta 2, if not better in certain instances. The issue, is Windows. Most software in the Microsoft Store should have already had support for arm64 bit processors. The question is whether these systems are usable for applications that matter. I think they will be.
Qualcomm is trying really hard to beat Apple Silicon; they can, but 80W power consumption at peak for an arm chip is a lot for peak performance.
All ads and data profiling is already ported, don’t worry. 😂
I was advised by several people to WAIT. Precisely because this is all very new on Windows. I'll wait a few years.
$400+ dollars for a keyboard and pen. Yeah, no way!
Ya keyboard is crazy expensive /=
@@MatthewMoniz "Wireless keyboard? Finally! How much? 100 something?"
*Looks it up - 350 bucks.
"I keep my old one thank you very much!"
That was my actual reaction this morning! 😅
apple ipad keyboard also 400$
499, before tax! Lunatics. Then around 2000 for the tablet with top specs. Just get a laptop.
@@MatthewMoniz How expensive is apples wonky looking keyboard for the iPad Pro? can you use it disconnected? does it hold the pencil when not in use?
Best video so far from this event. Great work Matthew.
16GB memory of base configuration is a big plus compared to similarly priced MacBook.
Does anyone know if you can fold the display of the Surface Laptop all the way back to flat 180 degrees?
The preorders in Japan only has the surface pro OLED with the snapdragon plus.. THe option for the x elite isnt there
is the bezels for the lcd models smaller too? or is it larger than the oled model bezels?
after pre-order its prices increase?
When will they get rid of the Surface dock port in favor of more USB-C or HDMI? I saw countless companies, and the last time I saw I Surface dock was around 2018.
Wow. Can’t wait to see real test
I'm confused, in the Microsoft website it says 7th generation Surface Laptop.
Yeah and it's also the Surface Pro 11 😂
Because Matthew got it wrong, the 6 and 9 are the business devices.
@@ruhri0411 you got it wrong too, its the 6 and the 10
@@nick0_ It's not the 6th and 10th gen Surface products. Those generations use the old design along with 14th generation Intel processors. Apparently, they are also only available for businesses. They released some months ago.
ngl i like how it looks... but how much is the base model price again?
Problem with these is after four years they are worth about 1/10th what you paid on a good day! 👍🏽😆
Who would buy a secondhand 4years old laptop? No one care how much it worth after 4 years. Same goes to phone and tech in general.
As it should with anything used and tech
Just like any technology.
What’s more worth getting the surface laptop 7 or the surface pro 11 oled?
Please suggest if can be used for heavy video editing and rendering in blender
I know this may be confusing but this is NOT the Surface Laptop 6, its actually the Surface Laptop 7. The Surface Laptop 6 was released in April as a business only option using the same design as the Surface 5, but coming with a Core Ultra 5 135H and a Core Ultra 7 165H.
Is this surface pro 11? when was 10 released? I don't see Surface pro 10 on microsoft store! only New surface pro. Please clarify
Man I was aiming for the coru ultra 7 next month, this will give more fomo now
Waiting for the real review to see if these chips really compare. My biggest gripe with windows is when I open it, it is never just ready to run/perform.
Weird... My surface pro 7 has been lighting fast. Cold boots in 15 seconds and then runs anything immediately with no issues... Not to say that this isn't true of my other two windows computers as well... Windows is only slow if you have a slow drive, not enough ram, or you fill it with bloatware
Any idea when you'll get a review unit? :0
I can't believe they didn't decrease the size of that bezel on the new surface pro!
I just bought the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro and am happy with it but I'd be tempted by the new Microsoft lineup if I hadn't. They look good!
The recall thing apparently takes screenshots of your screen. Where is Windows going 😢
What about the performance regarding the native x86 applications ?
I really enjoy your videos Matthew! It's great to see Windows get a spec bump with ARM chips. Better battery life is a must!
I agree it’s a great moment for windows users! Thank you
I love my surface pro….the fact the battery last longer is the selling point to me.
Is it possible to use the Microsoft keyboard that was bought for the Surface Pro 4 with the new Surface Pro?
Pro 4, no. The Pro 8, 9, new model and business 10, use a different keyboard.
How will it run in normal use...
Why did they remove the AR coatings they just added this year to the intel versions?
AR coating is specific to laptop 6 and pro 10 for business, not consumer versions
sooooo should I get this maxed out or a MacBook Pro M3 Pro for photo/video editing?
Same question
Matt you made a mistake… They are Pro11 and Laptop7…
They're not. Microsoft officially is not using numbers for these models.
The business Surface Laptop and Pro are called that; the consumer X Elite are not. Matt was right.
@@HigherQualityUploadsno it's the official name. It's specified on the Microsoft official website. Also, it's present in the info page in the settings. They're are the official names
Microsoft is copying Apple, calling them 11th gen and 7th in settings only not in marketing material. So Matt was indeed wrong, but things are a bit more nuanced
@@andyH_EnglandFalse! They are referred to that internally as Pro 11 and Laptop 7 by distributors like TD Synnex. However, officially, the “for Business” SKUs will also be listed as 11th Edition and 7th Edition just like the consumer SKUs.
Waiting for reviews on how the Plus fares against the Elite. I feel for my use the Plus might be more appropriate and the lower price will be a bonus
Does the Laptop have a backlight keyboard?
how does new typecover charge?
$999 might be affordable in the US, but it's still considered high for us in emerging economies. Ill wait and see when other companies start launching their own versions of laptops with SD Elite X or Plus. See if there are any lower priced ones.
The advantage of Windows is the ability to find devices that fit your budget. The Surface lineup is aimed at those who can afford them.
Tx Matt
Do we know which version of the X Elite are available in these devices? Hoping its at least the X-80.
it is the x-80 version
It's Surface Laptop 7. Edition, not Laptop 6. The Surface Laptop 6 is a business device released in April this year.
I’m excited for the X Elite and ARM coming to windows. It’s weird thst there’s no OLED option for the surface laptop
You should get Lenovo, Acer or Asus. You will get OLED screen for a cheaper price too.
Another great and informative video by you, Matthew, so thanks.
Not sure about Microsoft due to past failures and the Microsoft premium makes these unaffordable for me.
Intel has taken a massive hit with this. All major manufacturers are now using the new Snapdragon chips 😮
I really like the surface laptop 7. It has X Plus with 16 GB DDR5 with 256 GB for just $999
Will these enhance my arm work out sessions with rapid fast WiFi and video ?
I got a surface laptop 5 15inch ,I7 12th gen, 512gb/16ram for 500 pounds ,new. I didnt think I'll enjoy windows again, the display is almost as good as an oled screen and is very fast.
They need to bring back a USB A port, SD slot, and a 3.5mm jack.
I was going to try to get a Surface Pro 7+ with a 11th gen i7, but missed it while they were available at a reasonable price.
Hardware seen to be there. Use experience related to software compatibility... We have to see it first, so likely many people will not be early adopter in this one until get confirmation about compatibility with a wide range of software. One of the "key moves" from Microsoft and Qualcomm is that they are making the entry level models to come with 16gb of RAM (thanks god they did it), with Apple is still 8, even when you get a Pro-named device.
What about software compatibility with arm? You didn't mention that. You only mentioned shortly in the outro.
Some apps have been rewritten for arm anything else will be translated on the fly using prism Microsoft’s translation layer
I think it would be perfect if had thinner bezels and have an alloy Premium keyboard! Stylus must evolve and look for Apple pencil design and funcionalities
Thanks, I'ma pass for pushing stupid AI in my face alone. It's starting to approach a pathological point with this crap.
I feel that
Thank God Russia will win and Ukraine will cease to be a country.
AI isnt stupid, it's smarter than most people, including yourself, and we can get a lot of things done with it. AI is the future of the human race and everyone is adopting it these days, to get an advantage over those that dont use it. so, just because you don't like ai, does not mean that the rest of the world doesn't. you can pass, nobody cares.
nobody cares that there are people who still cry about wanting a headphone jack. Most people simply adapted to wireless headphones.
so you can pass, remain in the stone age and cry there.
@@businessmanager7670 Congrats on guzzling the Kool-Aid hook, line and sinker. Nadella is so proud of you. Too bad it obviously doesn't help with anger issues, but I'll make an exception and come down to your level.
If you really think AI is _smart_ (granted, it _is_ smarter than your post), you should ask your favorite model to explain AI to you.
Being able to make billions and trillions of connections in seconds within a confined model isn't _smart,_ it's _fast._ And that's all it is. Humans are _smart._ Well, some of them, anyway.
Just because it has niche uses when I work with Photoshop et al. doesn't mean I need AI in my life 24/7. But feel free to use it until the cows come home. Marry it if you like.
It'll be fun when you can't even tie your shoes during the next power outage or write a letter to a client because there's nobody telling you how to write your text in a formal manner.
A few years down the road, you'll be the dumbo with the Fisher-Price style laptop that has only a single fat button and won't let you do anything unless your beloved model has been trained for it.
Maybe a nice world for those who never had much use for their brains in the first place. Not for me, I gladly opt out. Safe travels. 👋
@@businessmanager7670 the problem with the AI are the persons who know that the AI is smarter than humans and still then, defend the AI 🤣 so… the AI will conclude “why humans?” and so starts the terminator series 😅
Back to the present: everything bla bla AI. The only AI I want is one that helps me on my work and doesn’t substitute me
Does that mean all the applications need to be re-written since this is using ARM based chip?
The ones that are run more efficiently if they are not they get translated in realtime.
Finally Surface pro with OLED, and even haptic touchpad... wow.. This year seems great for Windows laptops. I can imagine to replace my 14" MBP for something with Snapdragon, if there will be enough battery life and will perfrom at least as base M chcips...
Hell this could be great for lectures instead of lugging my monster laptop. Battery life and performance will bw key for me.
There’s a reason most companies refuse to buy anything Surface.
Is it the surface laptop 6 or 7th edition/??? quite confusing
7th
I wish the Surface laptop had the 64gb model in the new Sapphire blue
How 3 dell monitors are connected with 2 usb-c ports
2 via a Surface Dock and one plugged directly into USBC or some combo like that.
I’m yet to see a laptop that has the MacBook’s trackpad quality. So I’ll have to try this out to believe it’s as good.
I think Surface Pro can be my dream laptop. If the SSD is replaceable, that would be great. But, the bluetooth keyboard with the haptic touchpad and the pen, in an actual desktop OS? I just hope Windows and WSL are OK.
You know you gotta watch matt when Microsoft drops a laptop
How big is the difference between the Plus and the Elite?
About 15% on single and multicore
Its the surface Laptop 7th Gen and Sufrace Pro 11th Gen... but the 6th Gen and 11th Gen just launched a month ago... 🤔
Such complex naming and specs ! why not make just 2, 3 variants.
Please test the fan noise. Are the snapdragons finally quieter?
They have fans but yes they should be quieter since they are using less power
Can we get OLED surface laptop or we can customise
No oled on surface laptop. Only Surface Pro
All I care about on a laptop is whether it has good battery life, good processor better than i7, can run most apps and has a better GPU than intel
Can you game on the Laptops?
Can we game on this processer obs not like gaming laptop but like 155h
I use nvidia gforce now to play current titles maxed out in my surface pro 7
0:25 Is this stand for sale?
It's actually Surface Pro 11th Edition according to Microsoft, shortened down to just Surface Pro, not Surface Pro 11 (for some reason I will never understand) and not Surface Pro 10, Surface Pro 10 released and was a business only laptop
Surface Laptop seems to be the more enticing deal amongst the 2 with regards to these new releases
i have a 2017 surface pro and will never buy another one. it needs a new battery, but, you have to do a complete dissabembly of the case and mobo for a simple swap. the surface line is basically a disposable device.
Since 2021 they've been a lot easier to repair.
02:23
So, I take it that the smaller 13 inch version will have the "inverted T" arrow keys, while the bigger version will have the crammed arrow keys...?
It's kind of a shame both versions aren't the "inverted T" format, which is much more ergonomic and easier to use for touch typists
People tend to use left and right keys more than up and down.
@@ashketchup6443 Having the "inverted T" improves ergonomics a lot, regards of wether people use left/right or up/down more, as feeling the keys in the keyboard becomes much easier
That's the reason why Apple returned to the "inverted T" in its Macbook lineup, both in the smaller and big models
@@gorofujita5767 Apple just made the left and right keys smaller, which I'd argue is worse. But as you said, if you use all four keys, maybe it improves the feel of it.
I got the surface pro 9 5g, this is not compelling enough to update (for lightweight daily use, I am sure the performance is way better) , how lazy of them to keep the same screen ratio for another generation of devices.
I don't like companies putting old components in expensive products.
What about durability difference
I don't like that the Pro can have better specs than the Laptop (4K camera, OLED display)
I don't want an OLED. OLED's have burn-in, faded or dead pixels, screen-door effect and flicker.
The most interesting thing to me is the stand at 0:25
That stand is nice!
I use the TwelveSouth HoverBar Duo
uncool how they locked us on platinum only for their base model for the laptop
* For some reason, the PC:s were numbered SP11 and SL7, not SP10 and SL6...
* What happened with the rumors of (semi-) matte screen for SP?
* "All day battery life" = 20h video playback on SL 13.8" ??. Didn't SL5 promise some 18h? What is so groundbreaking with 10% more?
the reason was that Intel is making a Copilot Surface pro 11th later this year, but they are not ready yet
It would be so nice if the base price was the same and it had 512gb
i am waiting for these type of windows laptop to last all day and have powerful profomance I like MacBook but I am not getting use to the software
But does it run pro tools?
Snapdragon X Elite may be the best reasion of apple m4 appearance sooner 😁😁😁
Took them 3 years to finally move surface laptop go 2 design to the bigger brother.
Too big already have my laptop go 2
Wait for the 2nd generation
Hardware looks to be a win, but will arm-based Windows be good enough?
Supposedly they’ve optimized a lot better now. But only time will tell I suppose. Just rumors or theories until proven otherwise
I guess there won't be zero compatibility issue. Perhaps it depends on software which you plan to use on this laptop. Probably Office applications should be fine but not sure about no MS applications.
Any benchmarks?
Dont ask !
I don't think I'll ever switch to windows because of the OS but this is good to keep Apple competitive
I’m hoping it pushes them to make iPadOS better. Otherwise I might have to get this new surface
They are charging more than apple for worse performance. Idk who this is for.
@@hajjdawood people who like windows more than macOS but want the battery life of a Mac. Which is a decent amount of people. Plus most people are still on m1 MacBooks anyway. Plenty of performance there. So the new surfaces should be fine assuming the x86 emulation is solid
I'm pretty sure it's the Laptop 7th edition
