Love seeing Marla's pastel trays as she selects her sticks. It allows us to judge relative colours and the values and to learn from her colour selections. Super idea!
I remember this series! I watched with facination and this beautiful, simple painting done over 100 times and each one different from the other. I love your style! I am so glad to find you after 12 years.
At 28:30; to help answer the question, why leave the foreground unfinished; pastel painting is very impressionistic. I think of the impressionist painters, like Monet. Also, it's good to have a matte to put over the picture periodically so you can see where you're at.
I really appreciate the time you take for the live demos. I learn something new each time. In addition, I can tell how much I've learned when I think, "she needs to do this" and the next thing you do is exactly what I thought. I'm hoping to start back up tomorrow and that what I've learned will translate naturally into my WIP.
I believe you have really done a wonderful job with these live streams! I like this style of video I do not always make it to the live part but your presentation is very spontaneous in these streams and so instructional too. Thanks Marla and your team too! the new camera works a real treat for us looking on.
Enjoyed this live stream Have enjoyed pastels as they hold their color with great brilliance. When working in watercolor or colored pencil. I always get disappointed ar the lack of punch and vibrance when they dry. Oddly enough I worked as an advertising technical artist for 22 years... drawing tight ink drawings for medical,, botanical,, and newspaper retail ads...after playing with the pastels in a wild and free application i overlay a very lightly drawn, very detailed inked pen drawing....this i know is an orthodox approach.,.but it has created a very unique style albeit outside the traditional norms. Have enjoyed your session very much.
I am cruising in that little stream of big talent 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

And I am happier still, that you’re not always trying to sell something, other than advertising your courses or your paintings.

I just bought you Variations book from Blurb. Pbk-$23.99 + tax/shipping. Can't wait to receive it!!
I can hear you!!
I feel better now as my art studio, also, is in my garage. And no AC/heat so I have to paint with good weather only. Love this video, thank you.
You are a generous artist. I’d love to try the 100 works of art one day.
Love this. I’m working on a similar painting in year 1 Lesson 6 I think. It’s harder than it looks! Loving the lessons!
So beautiful
The streaming is so much better. Thank you!
Yes! You have come a long way. Happy to see. I have learned a lot from watching you. I love to see the palette.
