There's a light house there that was manned by a family. When a ship noticed the light was out, someone (whoever had authority over the light house) went to check and found the family dead with puncture wounds but wasn't sure what caused them. As time went on, the snake population just got out of control. MrBallen covers it well, but I forget which one of his videos it was in.

For those saying they risked their lifes, there are lenses with a zoom so big, they make it look like the cameraman is filming super close. So what might seem as a close up shot, is probably filmed from meters away.

Theres a legend about that place here in brazil. In the 1920, 1 lighthouse caretaker was sent to the island with his wife and his five-year-old daughter. The lighthouse was used to warn sailors about the dangerous chains surrounding the island of snakes.
During a trip to take resources, the team found the abandoned lighthouse and the door open.
The family ended up being found, dead, on a trail on the hillside. Legend has it that, despite the protection walls around the lighthouse, a snake managed to get in.
Until today, many of the people who visit the island claim to hear the slight laughter of a little girl echoing with the wind.
