    Joe has become one of my fly fishing heroes. He is a great teacher and communicator and just a fun guy to watch fish. This series has been a real treat for those of us that love to see that part of the world and fantasize! Kinda looks like a spring creek in the Great Basin. Way cool. Thanks for the great content.

      Thanks Dave! Appreciate the positive vibes. There are so many great fisheries in North America. The trip south is a real treat for nice weather in January and of course good fishing. The culture, food, fun, and fresh scenery is all part of the package. The fishing is great but we have pretty good fishing here too.

    Real clouds. Blue skies. And no chem trails. Obviously not North America. How refreshing!
    Thanks for the great video.

      You got it. Sometimes it's hard to put your finger on but that's a big part of it.

      Thank you, lots of practice. We get huge wind here in the Yakima River Canyon.

    Small water, spooky trout, that’s my game. Even though the wind was tough, you were on point with some of those casts ! Stuck one of my PB rainbows on a tail water in Wyoming last August in water no more than a foot deep. They were hiding tight to the undercut brush. I spotted one feeding in the middle of the channel with its snout poking up eating small pmd emergers…. Forth drift with “ a beetle “ and it slurped it in ! Needless to say, don’t overlook small water no mater where in the world you are .
    Loving the series Joe, keep em’ coming 👍🏼

      It’s so fun seeing slo-mo hook-up replays! I was in Patagonia in ‘19 before I started fly fishing! JEEZ! 😢
      Thx Joe!

      Well put. We all have our own Patagonias here and there. Wherever you find yourself casting a fly is the world class at that moment. I'll never forget that!

    Nice job punching into the wind Joe. What fly line and leader setup were you using?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sage R8 690-4 with the fighting butt and a RIO Gold line in the Orange color. It's a skinny line so it slices through the wind quite well but doesn't load up at short range very easy is the only downside.

    Joe: Wondering why you weren’t pitching downstream to those guys….hope you got a chance to get some Empanadas at the Bomberos(combo restaurant & fire station)…..

      I think it's a vision thing, staying hidden is much easier when creeping up from below. Plus it's pretty muddy when you cross so you throw a plume everything you cross the stream. I think for some of the big pools that would be a better approach however. Very good question/comment.

    which outfitter did you go with and can book through Reds?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We fish with Cinco Rios Lodge, absolutely book through Red's. Email joe@redsflyshop.com and we can get some dialogue started.

    Very nice video!!! I was going to call Reds and probably will but I have a question, please. I need a rod and line that will enable me to roll cast to the furthest of my ability. I probably would be considered a decent and knowledgeable fly caster. I don’t care of the cost. What rod and line combo ? My environment will be winds 10-20 mph, 50 degrees F and an altitude of 4000 feet elevation. Will be casting indicator rigs up to 4.0 mm tungsten beads on nymphs with an indicator. I’m using 4-6 weight rods . Any info I will appreciate!!! Thanks !!!

      I live in Montana at about 5K feet and it’s always windy . Last year I got hooked up with a Loomis NRX+ 6wt it’s great rod for roll casting double nymph rigs but delicate enough for caddis . It’s become my go to rod . Go demo one I thing you will like it . Good luck in your search

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You'll want a 10' rod IMO and the NRX+ is super. You're really looking at the Sage R8 or the Loomis NRX+ both in the 10' 6 weight size range. If you are going to roll cast it, the Scientific Angler's Anadro would be a great choice so you get that indicator and flies to turn over without tangles in that type of wind. Sounds like Pyramid Lake to me haha. Some folks will use switch rods but I think the 10' 6 weight might be a better investment long term.
