Today we had to head out and buy more stuff to fix up our rental house, and a few things to fix Jamie's Jeep. We worked at the rental for a bit and then headed home. Oakley decided today was the day she was going to remember that doorways are super scary! So I had to remind her that they aren't scary!

Awww, lost it when Memphis and Shelby were waiting for Oakley at the top of the stairs
That was so cute when it turned out Shelby and Memphis were waiting for Oakley on top of the steps, and when Oakley finally went up, Shelby barked as a "you did it!" The pack supports each other, seemingly. That's just adorable. (and how Memphis was poking her head out from the stairway at Oakley)

Oakley's behavior is very interesting, but sad. After all these years and the abuse still affects her. And it truly is fear, you can see how once she gets going she wants out of that area fast. Good job with your dogs guys. Keep it up.

What's Oakley's background?
PTSD in a rescue dog is a real fact the symptoms are very much like a human deals with and believe it or not it is a proven fact that vets with PTSD are somehow able to get through to the dogs with it better. It may be that the dogs pick up on that they have same problems and the VETs find it helpful since they are able to relate to the dogs problems and both give the other unconditional love
it is i can relate to oakley's story due to the fact that i was abused by one of my old teachers and i still have the memories to this day it's sad but eventually you can live a normal life

Back in the 90s, I had a dog who wasn't allowed in the house (he was an Outside Dog, according to my parents). He was never abused; he just knew he wasn't supposed to go in the house. Once I moved into a new house that allowed dogs in, he took forever to cross the threshold just like that. It was hard to break his Outside Dog training.

Oh, I can so relate on the rescue dog front. Our Shiloh has afraid of lots of things, it took a lot of work to help him overcome them. But there were still things that even after 10+ years of having him we could not do. We got him when he was 10 months old, so it doesn't take much or long for certain behaviors to set in. He will have crossed the Rainbow Bridge 5 years ago this Friday. He taught me a lot that's for sure. Excuse me, I think I have something in my eye.......

I might lose it one day when Oakley joins Shiloh in doggy heaven. She is such a sweetheart and thank goodness she has such understanding and supportive pet parents in both Jess and Jamie. Thank you for sharing your life and your girls on TH-cam. I can only imagine how difficult it is to put your family in the public eye and to film and edit all these videos. Your channel has inspired us all and has brought such joy to your viewers. I had a shih tzu and now a Pekingese and hope to one day own a husky, preferably a rescue! Thank you for all that you do!!

I thought you'd said Oakley was abused. Someone argued with me about that when I mentioned it in a past post and said she hadn't been abused. I didn't say who and neither did you guys, so uncertain why they made the assumption they did. I said that I was happy she found you guys considering what she'd been through. I'm still happy that she found you guys. Your patience and love is just what she needed.

there are dog mats that you can freeze in your freezer and then take out for the dogs to lay on in the summer when it's out. Just food for thought :)
