- Hi everyone! Here it is. I finished Kingdoms of Death by Christopher Ruocchio @SunEaterBooks last week, and today's video is my spoiler-free book review of it. This is one of the darkest books I've ever read. It is also one of the best ones. I stand by my words that this series is way too underhyped outside of booktube. And I strongly implore you to read The Sun Eater series if you love a superbly written intricate and epic science fantasy series. Every book in the series is one of the best books I've ever read, and Kingdoms of Death is not an exception. Let me know your thoughts if you have read this book and series. Kingdoms of Death is one of those masterpieces that once you finish it you both can't wait to re-read it one day but also never want to read again.
It's like watching Grave of the Fireflies. So damn good. And also don't want to experience it again.

I have been watching reviews of this book lately and found myself not being alone in its impact.
Never have I read anything so depressing in my life (except perhaps Dostoevsky). I was crying the entire time of reading it, especially the last few hundreds of pages. I couldn't bare the pain anymore, that I jumped to the later chapters forward to ease that ache and stress in my heart and even watched the summary of Ruocchio, and yet still...It didn't prevent me from crying and grieving so much...The book absolutely broke me to the core. My partner got really worried about me, because he through my depression got back and it sort of did for that day. Even the day after I was still shaken and it took a bit to process this. Not only the torture and darkness that shattered me, but the small light and beauty of death is covered in this book too. This is an incredibly fitting title...This will remain deep in my memory...I have no words...Buckle up for the next book. The next book feels like slow aftermath and burn from the previous adventures, where you get to see how impacted the characters and what it did to them. Man...I started reading book 6 but am taking it slowly this time, to digest everything. I bingeread everything thus far...I am really scared now...Book 5 also shattered me again.
Kingdoms of Death is such an emotionally draining book. In a good way. Truly impactful, and despite the tears shed, I'm glad this book means that much to you. I look forward to reading Ashes of Man! 😊

This series is incredible. As a fantasy reader, I wouldn't have paid much attention to it without your videos. So I'm more than happy to have given it a try. These books belong to the most memorable ones I have EVER read. And I'm certainly not one of your youngest subscribers 😅

The correct response. I still rated it 5 stars, but ranking wise this is probably the second least favorite for me as I just don't enjoy "misery porn" for lack of a better descriptor.

Oof, I am finally restarting the journey for this series, I do have to start from the beginning 😂 so I can't wait to reach this part! I must say I am slightly scared to read this one now seeing as both you and Daniel Greene have had similar reviews of how harrowing it might be.

Oh man, I'm nervous to read this one.
I liked A Song of Ice and Fire but there are some scenes I'd rather not go through again. If this is darker and more shocking than that, it may just traumatize me. lol
A Song of Ice and Fire is one of my favorite series of all time, and I totally understand what you mean. Some of the scenes here are on that level or even crazier. Good luck! :)
Wow you are flying through the series, I'm now reading demon in white. This series is absolutely amazing, it even surpassed dune for me. Can't recommend it enough. And Thank you for recommending it to us in the first place 👍

I warned you about Kindoms of Death 😅. Until today,this is the most painful book that I've read and I told this to Christopher and he said "I do be like that",he enjoys bringing pain to us. Great series overall,I've bought the Disquiet Gods E-ARC and I can't wait to read it next month.

I loved Kingdoms of death. I actually had a little trouble getting through the commonwealth section. But I thought the parts before and after were incredible.

This series is on my read list for this year. As someone who's fave series is Second Apocalypse and Malazan. Come on Rucchio hurt me plenty!

I finished this one today. I agree. There is no way that this is not presently the 2nd best book in the series to this point in my Sun Eater Journey. For me 1) Demon in White 2) Kingdoms of Death 3) Howling Dark 4) Empire of Silence.
