I watched this video, the day I ordered Hello Fresh and I began to think... omg what did i do. But now that I have received my Hello Fresh I think this couple is just very negative. Hello fresh came right to my door, everything was organized and well packed, the meals our fantastic and I just think for busy families this is fantastic, quick, healthy and easy to follow. And also after having such a good experience I would recommend it and also buy for others as a gift. Im cooking the Beef and Roasted Red Pepper Ragout tonight... smells delicious!!!!

I’m really allergic to cheese and I do hello fresh. I just don’t choose the cheesy food option because I’ll get sick. My husband and I also eat really clean we only eat the carbs that we are allowed with on our macros. You can tweak the recipes to fit your lifestyle. It’s not hard.

from personal experience, hello fresh does let you customize the meals and choose them or change them weekly, it’s up to the person to see if what they offer is a right fit. Overall their style of foods is pretty good for me, and i like the thoughtfulness since id probably never make dishes like these on my own hehe
@@CatchyCravings it will preselect the top 3 recipes when you go to review your week’s dinner box. Simply deselect them by tapping the - (minus) button on the left where it says “# in your box” unless of course you want the selected recipe for one of your dinners. You should have over 20+ (I stopped counting after 20) different recipes available to you to choose from if you want to avoid the cheesy recipes. Don’t feel embarrassed, it took me a minute to figure out the app/website and how it works.

I tried Hello Fresh this month, and honestly, i didn't know you could change the recipes either. I thought you would just get 3 random meals based on your initial selection (normal/vegan/fast). Only once a colleague (who uses it as well) told me i could edit the box before the delivery, i picked the recipes i would like.

The meal said 45 minutes but we spent an ENTIRE FIFTEEEN MORE MINUTESSSS - u have to understand cooking isn't so precise, especially if u prepare it, everybody slices and chops at different speeds, and take their time

They have an entire vegan section on their website so I'm not sure why you two didn't go with those options exclusively. The packaging is all recyclable (paper/cardboard/plastic...no styrofoam from what I saw here) so I'm not sure where the complaints about the packaging comes from. I'm trying to decide if I want to use this company or not so I was looking for honest reviews on the service/products and I unfortunately stumbled upon 13 minutes of you two complaining about things that either don't matter (packaging) or were your own fault (not ordering vegan)...smh
I've am finishing up my own trial of Hello Fresh. I do agree they take more time to make (for the most part) than I wanted to take. I was able to pick the meals I wanted (ordered on a laptop rather than a device, so I don't know if that makes a difference). Much of the packaging can be recycled - box, paper bags, the freezer pack that comes with the US box - didn't see one of those in yours. Unfortunately, yes, plastic pouches that can't be recycled. I ordered for a few weeks, just to get a range of the experience. I didn't dislike any of the recipes yet (two more to eat). Since I don't care for tree nuts, I left them out. Sorry, I already know I don't like nuts crawling around in my string beans! Portion sizes were appropriately marked. I am canceling, however. I am one person, and while I was happy enough to make two meals out of any item, I don't want to keep doing that. Plus, I want to try Green Chef next. Maybe in a month. PS -- 2 ads for Hello Fresh during you review!!
One thing I enjoyed was the wide range of citrus zest employed in these recipes... I'll be bringing this into my own cooking. Also that all the produce and seafood and meats were very fresh. (I mostly ordered vegetarian however.) The only complaint is that the tomatoes are tasteless, but as one who normally only buys them in season, locally, I was not surprised.
So just to comment on the shipping part, they arrive at the UPS warehouse in a refrigerated trailer, we don't unload them until a few hours before they are loaded into the package car, and usually when I would deliver these boxes, they'd still be on the cooler side. The issue that would most frequently arise is people who would need to sign for it and not be home, because we don't have the equipment to refrigerate it once it arrives back at our facility (the refrigerated trailers they arrive in don't belong to us). So if you are getting the box on the first delivery attempt, it should be fine. On the 2nd attempt, I'm not so sure, and on the 3rd attempt I'd say it's very unlikely to be fresh. She does live in a different country, so I can't say it's the exact same, but that's what I've got to say on the US side of it.
We have tried, probably, 50 or 60, different meals from Hello Fresh. We have liked every one. We have duplicated some of our favorites. There is no wasted food or leftovers, but there is a lot of packaging.
I was pleasantly satisfied with Hello Fresh. I'm in a rural area so I appreciate the packaging. They give you so many choices that one can find and create the types of meals that fit them. Vegan choices are available so this revue seems a little skewed to me. I'm not in any way connected to Hello Fresh, I just enjoyed it.

Well I received my first box today. I ordered the duck tagliatelle, lamb and aubergine curry and the Cajun sea bass. I’m excited to try it and with the discount I got it was cheaper then heading to Sainsbury’s to do a shop.

Probably because her complaints are stupid. If she’s vegan, hello fresh has plenty of vegan options. She is right that they have way too things packed in plastic. I got a meal from them with carrots and each carrot had its own plastic bag. Her complaining about how unhealthy it is is also stupid since, you pick the meals you want. I found the portions too small with lots of inexpensive ingredients. The meal cost 3x more than if you bought the ingredients separately and made it on your own.

Maybe I'm an anomaly but I actually enjoyed their critique. Haha. It's not for everyone. Don't stress if it isn't for you find another video that you enjoy. Yes they were highly critical and have extremely high standards but they also mentioned it wasn't bad and was really good in some ways. And hearing that from them means a lot. *To be honest I'd rather this highly critical critique than "everything is fantastic" with no explanation to why and what could be better.*

I don't think that she's nitpicking - she's giving extremely through and honest review, I'd expect that most people would like to know about these things if they'd consider this service - yes, they always could order it and see it for themselves, but most people look up the reviews first and if I'd consider the service, I'd be thankful for her honesty and specific review as I'm not someone who trusts products (etc) easily.

Me, as european (spanish) Im shocked to see how american people can complicate something as simple as to go to a supermarket or market to buy fresh food and cook it in different ways without wasting more than 20-30 mins per meal instead of ordering it by internet classified per days. LOL

Meal kit delivery are life saving in a food desert. I've been trying several boxed meals before and it's been interesting knowing how to cook new food items , fresh vegetables and spices and learning techniques, incredibly low cost and having great ingredients quality so far ! People who think it's expensive come to our place and see how expensive food is getting in rural Canada ... 79$ per week ( HelloFresh) is nothing when we usually spend 450$ per week. It's life saving, convenient, amusing & you can keep the recipes to make them later 😄🙌🏼 Very excited to start another journey 🍔
i totally agree with! I live near maryland and honestly everything is so expensive. We go out to eat cause it gets busy in the week and no time for grocery shopping and planning. It's so much better to have everthing just prepared and list all out for you. I don't get the hate from her hahaha

I definitely respect your review and I think you gave them a fair shake based on your experience. However, I would counter that with a little more knowledge and experience with the service you could tailor your meals more to your liking. I think there is a bit of waste in the packaging that is concerning, but some of what you displayed as waste can be recycled, like the bag, and cardboard, and perhaps the plastic cream cheese cup as well, once washed . But I do agree with you that they could do more to minimize waste in the packaging overall. I've been using this service for over a year, and I've never had a problem with chilled ingredients spoiling due to heat. I live in Michigan, U.S., and it can be balmy and humid in the summer. I've had packages on the porch for hours and no problem with meat or dairy spoiling whatsoever. The boxes come with a massive frozen bag of some kind of slurry composition, and is sealed in a recyclable sort of foil bag inside of the thick cardboard box with is sealed tightly. This is not a concern in my experience. In terms of health of meals, you definitely have to be careful selecting your meals, or your meal plan for that matter. And you can select all of your meals including your initial box. Although I grant this is not an intuitive feature outright, I just wanted to point that out to viewers of your video. Also I advise to not use the salt and pepper at every step as the directions indicate, that is simply not necessary and I do not understand why they have you using salt and pepper at every step, especially when you are already using sodium filled spices that they have prepackaged for the meals. In terms of price, I find it very agreeable. I calculate that meals come to $10 U.S. per serving, which is 8.27 euros.. We use approximately the same plan as we get three meals, two servings per meal shipped in our box. This is less than the price of any meal you can buy dining out in the U.S., especially after the consideration of our antiquated tipping system as well. This is much healthier and cheaper than virtually any fast food or frozen packaged meal you can buy anywhere. The only way this is not cheaper than a homemade, store bought ingredients meal is if you buy exactly only what you need and do not waste any amount of ingredients. Further, for any meal that you make based on store bought ingredients you will still be cooking and cleaning up after yourself, so that scrutiny really wasn't necessary. So, regarding your assessment of price, I disagree pretty strongly with you on that point. Having half your dinners delivered to your doorstep for this price is honestly pretty hard to beat... I agree that you can definitely eat healthier if you take care to buy your own ingredients and tailor your own meals to a leaner diet. I also agree that for people with less time and energy for shopping and meal prepping, this is definitely a service to consider because it eliminates so much stress and hassle from your routine, especially in a time of lockdowns and quarantines. Lastly, I have to agree with you that meals really do taste great, and after enough time using the service you can avoid meals that you don't like pretty easily as they offer well over a dozen options per week to choose from. If you are a skilled cook in the kitchen, you can definitely make a better meal, but for the ease of dinners they offer, the flavor is definitely very favorable. A good review, as I said, I think you gave them a fair shake for a first time blind taste test. I just wanted to offer my counter points to add to your review as I have used the product for a while now. Cheers!

Many of the recipes are really simple, easy and very good. However the cost for the food items is way too expensive. Your better off just getting their recipes and making your own from grocery store items you bought. Far far cheaper to do that.
That's what I plan on doing. Just got my first box and they forgot the fry seasoning for the potato wedges. I was pissed. Then, I googled Hello Fresh fry seasoning. It says it's equal parts garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. You can add salt, pepper and cayenne if you want to spice it up. I literally have all of that in my cabinet lol I'm just going to get their recipes. It's cheaper and at least I know I won't forget ingredients like they did.
I just started Hello Fresh. Today will be my second meal. First meal lasted for two days since I am just cooking for myself right now. Because I am just cooking for myself I tended to eat out a lot or eat prepared or processed foods and I see after years that it is not good for me. So ... what to do? I thought I'd try Hello Fresh since it was also advertised on the Thom Hartmann show. In general I like the idea, and so far, after just 1 meal I like the food. I do not like the amount of packaging involved, and the frozen ice that they just tell you to pour into your garbage. I have a hard time with that, but this is the first way I have been able to regulate my eating in a reasonable way - so, I think I will stick with it for a while. I had to chuckle at an Asian lady wanting to add rice ... where's the rice. My girlfriend is the same way. What you cooked looks really good. I decided already to renew and try to the vegetarian package next week. I really need something like this, otherwise I just eat too much unhealthy food.

I can't even finish watching this. You don't want packaging? Don't order your fresh food by mail. Instead, ride a bike to a farm. We cook up several days worth of pasta and store it in the fridge. When we're ready for dinner, we steam vegetables in a pan and put the pre-cooked pasta in with the vegetables until everything is hot. Then, we put it all in a bowl, add some butter, salt, and pepper - stir - and - voila! We add grated parmesan to taste. A side of order of good, toasted country bread can round out the meal, if needed. Cheap, quick, and easy to make. You might call it: 'Hello Cheap'!
Although I like having everything sent to my door to cook myself (I wanna learn to cook more complex stuff but I'm pretty indecisive about what to get), the price in here is pretty high, around 12 USD per serving plus shipping, which makes it almost as expensive as getting food outside, so.
Hello Fresh was trying to charge my credit card weekly, when I specifically said I was just trying it out and see as there was no option for single portion and after calling them to cancel and clear i did not want their food delivery any longer, they still kept trying to scoop from my credit card. I’m really allergic to cheese and I do hello fresh. I just don’t choose the cheesy food option because I’ll get sick. My husband and I also eat really clean we only eat the carbs that we are allowed with on our macros. You can tweak the recipes to fit your lifestyle. It’s not hard.

from personal experience, hello fresh does let you customize the meals and choose them or change them weekly, it’s up to the person to see if what they offer is a right fit. Overall their style of foods is pretty good for me, and i like the thoughtfulness since id probably never make dishes like these on my own hehe

@@CatchyCravings it will preselect the top 3 recipes when you go to review your week’s dinner box. Simply deselect them by tapping the - (minus) button on the left where it says “# in your box” unless of course you want the selected recipe for one of your dinners. You should have over 20+ (I stopped counting after 20) different recipes available to you to choose from if you want to avoid the cheesy recipes. Don’t feel embarrassed, it took me a minute to figure out the app/website and how it works.
I think the lesson here is to not assume anything.
To be fair it's not obvious you can change the recipes, the site could definitely help you there on your first menu

I tried Hello Fresh this month, and honestly, i didn't know you could change the recipes either. I thought you would just get 3 random meals based on your initial selection (normal/vegan/fast). Only once a colleague (who uses it as well) told me i could edit the box before the delivery, i picked the recipes i would like.

They have an entire vegan section on their website so I'm not sure why you two didn't go with those options exclusively. The packaging is all recyclable (paper/cardboard/plastic...no styrofoam from what I saw here) so I'm not sure where the complaints about the packaging comes from. I'm trying to decide if I want to use this company or not so I was looking for honest reviews on the service/products and I unfortunately stumbled upon 13 minutes of you two complaining about things that either don't matter (packaging) or were your own fault (not ordering vegan)...smh

I've am finishing up my own trial of Hello Fresh. I do agree they take more time to make (for the most part) than I wanted to take. I was able to pick the meals I wanted (ordered on a laptop rather than a device, so I don't know if that makes a difference). Much of the packaging can be recycled - box, paper bags, the freezer pack that comes with the US box - didn't see one of those in yours. Unfortunately, yes, plastic pouches that can't be recycled.
I ordered for a few weeks, just to get a range of the experience. I didn't dislike any of the recipes yet (two more to eat). Since I don't care for tree nuts, I left them out. Sorry, I already know I don't like nuts crawling around in my string beans!
Portion sizes were appropriately marked.
I am canceling, however. I am one person, and while I was happy enough to make two meals out of any item, I don't want to keep doing that. Plus, I want to try Green Chef next. Maybe in a month.

One thing I enjoyed was the wide range of citrus zest employed in these recipes... I'll be bringing this into my own cooking. Also that all the produce and seafood and meats were very fresh. (I mostly ordered vegetarian however.) The only complaint is that the tomatoes are tasteless, but as one who normally only buys them in season, locally, I was not surprised.
What about the cost in comparison to just going out and grocery shopping at the store, is it worth it?
I'm not sure why there are so many negative comments, I thought this review was very helpful.
So just to comment on the shipping part, they arrive at the UPS warehouse in a refrigerated trailer, we don't unload them until a few hours before they are loaded into the package car, and usually when I would deliver these boxes, they'd still be on the cooler side. The issue that would most frequently arise is people who would need to sign for it and not be home, because we don't have the equipment to refrigerate it once it arrives back at our facility (the refrigerated trailers they arrive in don't belong to us). So if you are getting the box on the first delivery attempt, it should be fine. On the 2nd attempt, I'm not so sure, and on the 3rd attempt I'd say it's very unlikely to be fresh.
She does live in a different country, so I can't say it's the exact same, but that's what I've got to say on the US side of it.

We have tried, probably, 50 or 60, different meals from Hello Fresh. We have liked every one. We have duplicated some of our favorites. There is no wasted food or leftovers, but there is a lot of packaging.

I got a meal from them with carrots and each carrot had its own plastic bag. Her complaining about how unhealthy it is is also stupid since, you pick the meals you want. I found the portions too small with lots of inexpensive ingredients. The meal cost 3x more than if you bought the ingredients separately and made it on your own.

I've been trying several boxed meals before and it's been interesting knowing how to cook new food items , fresh vegetables and spices and learning techniques, incredibly low cost and having great ingredients quality so far ! People who think it's expensive come to our place and see how expensive food is getting in rural Canada ... 79$ per week ( HelloFresh) is nothing when we usually spend 450$ per week. It's life saving, convenient, amusing & you can keep the recipes to make them later 😄🙌🏼 Very excited to start another journey 🍔

I definitely respect your review and I think you gave them a fair shake based on your experience. However, I would counter that with a little more knowledge and experience with the service you could tailor your meals more to your liking.
I think there is a bit of waste in the packaging that is concerning, but some of what you displayed as waste can be recycled, like the bag, and cardboard, and perhaps the plastic cream cheese cup as well, once washed . But I do agree with you that they could do more to minimize waste in the packaging overall.
I've been using this service for over a year, and I've never had a problem with chilled ingredients spoiling due to heat. I live in Michigan, U.S., and it can be balmy and humid in the summer. I've had packages on the porch for hours and no problem with meat or dairy spoiling whatsoever. The boxes come with a massive frozen bag of some kind of slurry composition, and is sealed in a recyclable sort of foil bag inside of the thick cardboard box with is sealed tightly. This is not a concern in my experience.
In terms of health of meals, you definitely have to be careful selecting your meals, or your meal plan for that matter. And you can select all of your meals including your initial box. Although I grant this is not an intuitive feature outright, I just wanted to point that out to viewers of your video. Also I advise to not use the salt and pepper at every step as the directions indicate, that is simply not necessary and I do not understand why they have you using salt and pepper at every step, especially when you are already using sodium filled spices that they have prepackaged for the meals.
In terms of price, I find it very agreeable. I calculate that meals come to $10 U.S. per serving, which is 8.27 euros.. We use approximately the same plan as we get three meals, two servings per meal shipped in our box. This is less than the price of any meal you can buy dining out in the U.S., especially after the consideration of our antiquated tipping system as well. This is much healthier and cheaper than virtually any fast food or frozen packaged meal you can buy anywhere. The only way this is not cheaper than a homemade, store bought ingredients meal is if you buy exactly only what you need and do not waste any amount of ingredients. Further, for any meal that you make based on store bought ingredients you will still be cooking and cleaning up after yourself, so that scrutiny really wasn't necessary. So, regarding your assessment of price, I disagree pretty strongly with you on that point. Having half your dinners delivered to your doorstep for this price is honestly pretty hard to beat...
I agree that you can definitely eat healthier if you take care to buy your own ingredients and tailor your own meals to a leaner diet. I also agree that for people with less time and energy for shopping and meal prepping, this is definitely a service to consider because it eliminates so much stress and hassle from your routine, especially in a time of lockdowns and quarantines.
Lastly, I have to agree with you that meals really do taste great, and after enough time using the service you can avoid meals that you don't like pretty easily as they offer well over a dozen options per week to choose from. If you are a skilled cook in the kitchen, you can definitely make a better meal, but for the ease of dinners they offer, the flavor is definitely very favorable.
A good review, as I said, I think you gave them a fair shake for a first time blind taste test. I just wanted to offer my counter points to add to your review as I have used the product for a while now. Cheers!

Many of the recipes are really simple, easy and very good. However the cost for the food items is way too expensive. Your better off just getting their recipes and making your own from grocery store items you bought. Far far cheaper to do that.
That's what I plan on doing. Just got my first box and they forgot the fry seasoning for the potato wedges. I was pissed. Then, I googled Hello Fresh fry seasoning. It says it's equal parts garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. You can add salt, pepper and cayenne if you want to spice it up. I literally have all of that in my cabinet lol I'm just going to get their recipes. It's cheaper and at least I know I won't forget ingredients like they did.

I just started Hello Fresh. Today will be my second meal. First meal lasted for two days since I am just cooking for myself right now. Because I am just cooking for myself I tended to eat out a lot or eat prepared or processed foods and I see after years that it is not good for me. So ... what to do? I thought I'd try Hello Fresh since it was also advertised on the Thom Hartmann show.
In general I like the idea, and so far, after just 1 meal I like the food. I do not like the amount of packaging involved, and the frozen ice that they just tell you to pour into your garbage. I have a hard time with that, but this is the first way I have been able to regulate my eating in a reasonable way - so, I think I will stick with it for a while.
I had to chuckle at an Asian lady wanting to add rice ... where's the rice. My girlfriend is the same way. What you cooked looks really good. I decided already to renew and try to the vegetarian package next week.

We cook up several days worth of pasta and store it in the fridge. When we're ready for dinner, we steam vegetables in a pan and put the pre-cooked pasta in with the vegetables until everything is hot. Then, we put it all in a bowl, add some butter, salt, and pepper - stir - and - voila! We add grated parmesan to taste. A side of order of good, toasted country bread can round out the meal, if needed.

Although I like having everything sent to my door to cook myself (I wanna learn to cook more complex stuff but I'm pretty indecisive about what to get), the price in here is pretty high, around 12 USD per serving plus shipping, which makes it almost as expensive as getting food outside, so.
Hello Fresh was trying to charge my credit card weekly, when I specifically said I was just trying it out and see as there was no option for single portion and after calling them to cancel and clear i did not want their food delivery any longer, they still kept trying to scoop from my credit card. I came here to see if the subscription was worth the cost. Instead, I watched a 13 minute video of you complaining about wasteful packaging, too much dairy, not enough veggies and the meals not being all that healthy. You literally customize your own meals, why choose something that you know you won't like? Make it make sense.

If you get the app you have multiple options and you can even set it to go vegan immediately. Also they use insulation and ice in the summer!
Did you really complaint that you have to cook by yourself and wash the dishes?
You can choose only veggie meals. When you first sign up they ask you veggie or meat and veggie.
Such a nice and informative video, don't know why so many people disliked it.
