As a translator, I just wanted to thank you for caring about the visibility of translators and seeing their names within paratexts.

Thanks a lot 😊. I hope it becomes the norm for publishers to use the format of those like Charco and Tilted Axis Press.

I have this one in my audiobook library and I am thinking of picking up a copy at some time! I can understand wanting more acknowledgement for the translators and I have seen these conversations happening across publishing. I also like the sound of this one for digging a bit more emotionally deeper rather than being entirely cosy (although nothing wrong with that either!)

That's brilliant, Olivia. I've always liked being able to find a translators name on the cover. Someimes I also stryggle to find an illustrators name.
More recently, seeing a translators name easily helps me understand if it's translated fiction or whether tge author has written the book in English as their second language etc. For example, Norman Erikson Pasaribu, his first 2 books are translated fiction(tr. Tiffany Tsao) but his latest book he wrote in English so that's original voice global fiction 😅
Hope you like this book as much as I did 💛✨️

Just finished it and loved it. Wasn’t expecting the last chapter. I wasn’t overly emotionally during the book other than during one name reveal at the end where I nearly burst into tears 😅

@milero91 I was trying to be all stoic at first, but gave up when I got to that part 😅. I'm glad you loved it, too! I'll definitely keep an eye out for more from Hiiragi. It all came together so well ✨️

The Kamogawa Food Detectives by Hisashi Kashiwai (trans. by Jesse Kirkwood) fits the cozy fiction slot too. It came up under customer recommendations when I looked up Yeonnam-Dong's Smiley Laundromat. The Kamogawa Food Detectives has also been adapted for TV. I plan to read the series in Japanese eventually.

Yeah, it does! I really enjoyed it 😊✨️ I've pre-ordered the second book, The Restaurant of Lost Recipes, which is coming out in October. I haven't been able to find the TV series yet, but I heard it's popular.
Apparently, the original Japanese book series is already on book 9 or something, so it would definitely be an advantage being able to read Japanese! I'll have to keep waiting for the translations 😅

Hope you like Yeonnam-Dong Smile's Laundromat, I only just recently read it and enjoyed it a lot.

@@PageTurnersWithKatja We have a Kinokuniya Bookstore where I live. Ordering books that aren't in stock is very convenient.
Just a sidenote: Romanized Korean has its own conventions. -eo- is a simple vowel, an open -o- sound like in Yeon (which for me rhymes with Jon). The -o- in -Dong is a closed o sound (probably like in Dorchester or surprised Pikachu face "Oh!") Sorry, if that's a bit pedantic. Occupational hazard.... teacher's gonna teach. LOL
That being said, I enjoy your reviews.

@yuklimka7251 I don't mind. I was saying to a friend that my pronunciation of Hyunam-Dong and Yeonnam-Dong sound way too close for both to be accurate 😂. Wait...Oh! I see what you mean, gosh I thought I at least got that part right 🤣

@@PageTurnersWithKatja Romanization is a bit inconsistent to be fair, esp. since it's changed over the years. I'm BTS ARMY, which is why I care about pronouncing their names and their song lyrics correctly.
I think the fastest way is to copy paste the hangul into either Google Translate or Naver Papago Web Translator and hit the loudspeaker icon until you hear the difference clearly.
      Yeonnam-Dong: 연남동
      Hyunam-Dong: 현암동
      I hope this helps.

It sounds a bit like The Midnight Library by Matt Haig!
