I've been in the avian field now for nearly 30yrs. And have worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaw. And out of ALL the birds i've dealt with over the years. The Corvid species never cease to amaze me with there intelligence. This Eurasian Crow reminds of The New Caledonia Crows i spent some time researching a few years back. As they also utilize tools for hunting such as twigs to pull out various bugs etc...I've witnessed Common Ravens doing somersaults in the snow in Alaska just for the sheer delight of it...!!! So again, it's amazing how underrated these birds intelligence truly is. I once heard a story from a colleague of mine living in Norway who was plagued by a Common Raven stealing his fish. You see he had made ice holes on a lake and left his lines in the water. Little did he know the Raven was the one stealing his catch until he caught him one day red-handed. But was shocked by the method in which the Raven was stealing his food. You see the Raven would sit by the ice hole slowly dunking the line with it's beak in and out of the water until something bit. And then just at the right moment it would snag the fish and off he flew to enjoy the fruits of it's labor. So now you can see folks when i say above that these birds never cease to amaze me I MEAN IT...!!!
This means a lot to me because I've been quite ashamed of my clan (The crows) due to general folklore around the Corvids. I'm so proud now to call myself "a crow"❤
@awwhellyeah1 i know that now, still thanks for clearing that up. back then i was only thinking about the birds in my area which are mainly the hooded crow (hence the grey=crow statement) and the carrion crow which is reffered to as a raven in general here.
This is the Homer Simpson of crows. "I'll simply tear of this piece of bread so I can catch fish with it. Ok here goes. First I'll tear off a piece of bread... mmm bread *gulp* d'oh!"
You need to actually interact with a Crow in real life to truly understand. They may be smaller than you, but that doesn't mean they're less smarter than you.
Crow just drops bread or whatever that is into water so it would easier to swallow - it's not fishing, just confidence. I had 3 domesticated crows in my life, so I know they prefer moist foot over dry one if there is a choice.
Your talking garbage. The crow deliberately fishes. All birds prefer wet bread to dry but it is deliberately fishing using the bread, it does it many times on the full video as seen on BBC.
looks accidental, like the bird dropped the bread on accident, then saw the fish, and went for it instead. But ravens, man those fuckers will steal your Porsche
I've seen crows use tools before, but I have never seen one first acquire food, and then use that food to obtain MORE food.
That is beyond impressive.

Is this your colleague?

I don't think that **I've** ever managed to catch a fish in 39 seconds before.
I am laughing at a comment from 2 years ago XD
@@dawudabdul6726 every comment is in the past
@@HülyeLó No, mine is in the future.
Even crows know that white bread has little nutritional value.
This is from a BBC video, it does this many times and never actually eats any of the bread.
Bdragon660, it really is awing to see that. It knows bread is good, but fish is even better. The intelligence of crows never ceases to amaze me.
I for one welcome our new avian overlords.
????
I've never seen a crow with that much gray on it. Awesome video! I've seen a Green Heron do that as well. Birds are awesome.
Now we DO know who are overfishing the oceans REALLY.
Birds are just so amazing!
This means a lot to me because I've been quite ashamed of my clan (The crows) due to general folklore around the Corvids. I'm so proud now to call myself "a crow"❤
They are on par with humans regarding understanding. Their limiting factor is absence of hands.
@awwhellyeah1 i know that now, still thanks for clearing that up.

This is exactly what I wanted to see, an amazing fishing video without the shitty ass background music!!
This is the Homer Simpson of crows. "I'll simply tear of this piece of bread so I can catch fish with it. Ok here goes. First I'll tear off a piece of bread... mmm bread *gulp* d'oh!"
this is fascinating
what is the thing that the crow picks out of the water though?
The crow used some kind of food (possibly bread) to bait a fish
Thank you reddit for bringing me here
Amazing had no idea crows could do this great video!!
I lost some new Koi from my garden pond to a couple of crows like that.
WOAH. This is a really smart bird.
Genius crow
Some older (weirdo) crows are telepathic also....
I have never seen a crow that looks like that.
Well they exist, lol. The hooded crow.
Crows. Are. Sapient.
Now That would be amazing .... considering i haven't got one .....
Crows are very intelligent.
awesome bird
Crows are Amazing!
I love your note :)
that's a guy in a crow suit
Dislike from fish defender?)))
where in the world is this?
UK.
Amazing, truly amazing! Kudos to whoever captured that on camera. How can they do that with such a tiny brain??
Bobby Joe Henry crows are smart...

Brain size has no direct relationship to intelligence. It's all about the way it is shaped
+Bobby Joe Henry Doesnt take much brains to operate a camera...
+TheVocalMale Let's not go over the top, they're nowhere near as smart as humans. Well, some humans at least.
Unbelievable!
Holy bazoonkas, this little obnoxious bird has smarts.
Incredible!!
Wow
And people thinks crows are stupid lol.
Now lets watch the video where Fish hunt Crows
@EbonyWaters
Only because of their awful sounding waaaaaaaaa craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
But i like them aswell, just their sound = bad
i shat a brick.
For all we know, the crow just likes his bread extra soggy, and it just so happened to lure a couple of fish.
Akilroth234 my thoughts exactly
The grey ones -> crows
The all black ones -> ravens
That's the difference

you dont domesticate crows you tame them
