Today Temptations fans, we're gonna celebrate the heart and soul of the Temptations! On this day in 1939, the original lead singer, choreographer, and one of the founding members of the Temptations the late, great Paul Williams was born.
Paul would've been 85 years old if he was still living today. By celebrating his day, I wanted to share with you one of his finest moments of music career. ‪@thetemptationsofficial‬ are performing "For Once In My Life" on "TCB," a TV special that featured fellow Motown artist ‪@thesupremes‬ in December 1968. This special performance truly defined how great of a singer Paul Williams really was. He absolutely stold the show with his soulful, touching, heartfelt baritone voice that no one has never been able to recreate. To many of us Tempts fans, this was one of his signature songs that a lot of us will never forget. Paul was always known for taking a song and made you feel what he was singing. And nobody, and I mean nobody can ever sing "For Once In My Life" the way he did till this day.
Dr. Otis Williams has stated many times that during a show at the copacabana, Adam Clayton Powell happened to be in the audience. Due to Paul singing with so much passion and emotion during "For Once In My Life," Adam Clayton stood up with tears running down on his face and applauded. That was Paul Williams for you. He touched so many people's lives heart's and lives in a short amount of time in his life.
This one is for you, Mr. Heart and Soul. You maybe overlooked as a singer, but in my eyes, you're a legend that'll never be forgotten. You taught the Tempts everything you knew to make them more than just a singing group. Till the day I die, you'll always be my favorite Temptation of them all. Happy heavenly 85th birthday, Paul.
