Chénier è poeta dalla prima all'ultima nota: lo si incarna efficacemente mediante una simil sensibilità musicale e drammaturgica; le tonnellate di suono, ammesso che non guastino, non sono essenziali. E con ciò non voglio dire che Carreras avesse la voce piccola. Ad ogni modo, pur apprezzando lo Chénier di del Monaco e di Corelli, credo che nessuno lo abbia cantato bene come il maestro Carreras.
