Sin duda la mejor representación de Norma que hubo en España el siglo XX pasado. La insuperable Montserrat Caballé en el rol protagónico difícilmente se repetirá en su tierra natal. Eran tiempos cuando la ópera se representaba con lo mejor de lo mejor del momento (la creme de la crema) y no con cantantes que no llegaban ni a los tobillos como ocurre en la actualidad. Esto es una joya para conservarla en vídeo. Un millón de gracias al canal de Machikokyo Kyosan por subir esta rareza de representación operística!!! Bravo !!!

She was a tremendous achievement and deserved as the greatest 'Diva' of Spinto-Soprano holding Bel Canto at the highest quality in the 20th Century. I feel rich hearing not only her vocal ability, but how she could cut the mustard to perform her vulnerable nature as human being within the 'personal thoughtless lives to struggle out secrets' as Norma. Without a doubt, a woman who has made her mark for the opera world as DIVA in generous and humble style, she had us experience a transcendence we could not expect.. How she is going to be missed. María Callas que dijo que en toda su vida ninguna Opera le demandó tantos sacrificios (algo así) sobre los cambios de "Temperamentos" de una soprano, como se los había exigido la Opera Norma de Bellini. Isn’t it hard on the performers when the audience interrupts with applause that holds up the opera for several minutes? I’m sure the performers are flattered, but it seems kind of like an annoyance.
The bel canto repertoire really brings out everything that is superlative about Caballe's vocal art, especially her incredible vocal limpidity. At the right volume in the right range her vocal timbre has a delectability that you can almost taste and smell. This is aside from her famous pianissimi. At her best, Caballe is the shining example of a true vocal virtuoso and one of the greatest exponents of the art of singing.

The first time that he sung in England when he came to the first big aria he belt it out trying to impress the English public. At the end of the aria he paused waiting for the big applause but none came. Dead silence. It took him a bit to regain his composure and carried on singing. Of course at the end of the opera he got the biggest applause ever. But he still couldn’t understand why there was no applause at the end of the aria. When he asked why they explained to him that in England don’t applauds not to disturb the concentration of the singer. Not the done thing...

There were times in this that they didn't look like they had enough room on the stage. This stage seems a little small. Maybe I'm just comparing it to the space they had at the ampitheatre in Orange, France. The choir and all the principal singers were great, especially Montserrat and Cossotto!

C'è la registrazione in CD di Norma con lui e Maria Callas!! Mai più eguagliata in disco, ma pare anche in teatro. Di La Virgen non dico nulla, rispetto il suo impegno e la difficoltà di quella parte per un tenore anche bravo.
Che voce metallica ha la Cossotto, ancor più della Caballè! Forse è la registrazione? Ma la Casta Diva di Orange rimane in assoluto la più commovente e coinvolgente di tutta la storia della lirica, superiore anche alla Callas , che è tutto dire! Grazie Montserrat!

She definitely didn't have anymore the requirements for belcanto at this stage, but she was a GREAT Adalgisa until the early 1970s and remained a great Verdi mezzo for a while. And she was an unparalleled Amneris and Azucena in her prime.
Although perhaps rarely subtle, I actually think that Cossotto was a great singer in her prime. Unfortunately this is not a good evening for her. In addition to the obvious vocal problems the voice is less than beautiful and she certainly doesn’t sound anything like I would imagine a young novice priestess sounding.
I begin to understand some of the less than positive comments about Cosotto. She overacts, for one thing. Her stage style, even her facial expressions would better fit the stage of a tear jerker melodrama, not a performance featuring the finest soprano of the era. I do not find her singing that bad, except when her vibrato becomes too broad. A better balanced cast would have been better, perhaps a Marilyn Horne or someone likely not to play her character in such an unpleasant way.
Cossotto's face is priceless.

I begin to understand some of the less than positive comments about Cosotto. She overacts, for one thing. Her stage style, even her facial expressions would better fit the stage of a tear jerker melodrama, not a performance featuring the finest soprano of the era. I do not find her singing that bad, except when her vibrato becomes too broad. A better balanced cast would have been better, perhaps a Marilyn Horne or someone likely not to play her character in such an unpleasant way.
Caballe was the only good Norma ever.
