I got extremely lucky with this fight because if I didn't, I probably would've been still stuck on it. What happened was I was able to get rid of Axel's first health bar and during this time I was fighting him, I had collected three Donald cards. So I put the Donald cards into a sleight for magic level 3 and Donald cast Blizzard TWICE and UTTERLY DESTROYED Axel's remaining health bars, 4 OF THEM!. He had one bit of health left so I just slashed him and it was over. That was truly a once in a lifetime moment for me
WHAT?! DONALD WAS ACTUALLY HELPFUL?! What a shock! 😂 Seriously though, Donald casting the same spell twice in this game has a 1/16 chance of happening, so you must've gotten pretty lucky. I never rely on Donald for actual damage during bosses, as I run the risk of him healing them instead of damaging them. I instead use him in either Wild Crush or Trinity Limit (if I ever used those sleights at all), or to try for some quick healing (as Cura heals a pretty decent amount already).
@@noluv.neo_if you want to fight axel again you can always make a extra save file before fighting him that way if you want to fight him again just load up the extra save file you made

Looking at the comments and seeing people saying they struggled with Axel, honestly I whooped his ass but had a very hard time with Vexen, he was the only boss I really struggled with
I beated him yesterday at my first try, I don't even know how. Then, Marluxia decided to appear in a random white room, and i lost. Now I have to beat Axel again, and I just can't. Jesus Christ.
Managed to do it with a 800cp build. Sonic blade x7, Ars arcanum (with jafar-genie active) x6. Same strategy against marluxia first encounter, felt very cheesy. Cheers

Ars Arcanum is one of the most powerful sleights but easiest to break. In the original CoM, Attack Bracer doesn't count with sleights and thus need an even tougher method to pull the whole sleight off. (For example, when the enemy is in the middle of reloading his / her deck)
I had a lot of trouble on this Axel fire 2 boss. He kept killing me so much that it traumatized me. I did beat the game but I have almost no memory idea how I beat him or this fight 😮
I did i deck out of 5-6 lethal frames and 3 sonic blades on my proud mode and i won so if u wait tell he uses a card on u and used LF u can damage him without him breaking ur attack cards
Gba is hard but better cause the bosses don't get bullshit unblockable moves you can always cancel then with a 0 card in the 3d version they get a combo off and with axel you just get humped until he's finished you can't break it even if you push a 0 card or have a higher combo ready as long as they get it off your f@#ked gba battle system is hard but the deck mechanics make way more sense and actually work.
I am surprised he did not use the zero card when you use sonic blade because at any given moment he could have use that zero card he had on the side while sonic was in use.
This was by way of making the game "less annoying" by allowing you to pull off a whole sleight with some chance of the enemy trying to break it. The original CoM used to have enemies trying their hardest to break your cards / sleights with a barrage of their highest numbered cards.

I've been trying to beat this boss fight for 10 years. And you beat it in 2 minutes with no damage. I'm crying lol.
@Diabolical The gba fight is harder and btw the attack bracer in the gba does not help you in sleights only on like 1 attack card

Blizzaga + Wizard card works wonders also.
+Salem Wizard cards are rare.
While they are rare I was surprised to have gotten two of them on the same playthrough.

Yeah with how little their health is they're probably prioritizing CP and Sleights
I just tornado spammed him just as effective honestly.
I found using Larxene's enemy card against him was helpful.

Ngl the boss battles are much harder on the original cuz cheesing them is much MUCH harder, as well as you do less damage
In the GBA version I used so many Blizzard Raid sleights that quickly easily put his fire out like a candle.

iirc, enemies can't use cards while being staggered... i might be wrong tho
Now if he had zero prepared when his Quick Recovery card was active, he would have been able to have used his cards even when being staggered.
