  • Here is the non-technical artistic version of the ST-70 amplifier restoration video for all to enjoy edited from the several full length videos that made up the original restoration. I make several of such videos a year for larger projects.

    I’m about 3 yrs late to this party, but just wanted to say fantastic job on the restoration. I’ve restored a couple ST-70’s over the years, so I understand what a pain in the *ss it can be. Nice touch with the PEC potentiometers for the bias pots. Beautifully clean wiring job. Cool you used new carbon comp resistors too. They certainly add to the sound of the amp. 🔊🎶😊

    Oh my goodness! Here I Broadcast your video to my huge Sony 4K TV and just could not leave the lazy boy! So capitivating! I really enjoyed how you sand blasted and then the painted black covers. NUCE!! Sunday night October 4, 2020 a great night! Thank you!!

      How did It look on the big screen. I never really review them bigger than my 48in monitor.

      @@retrotechandelectronics very nice! It fit very well with in the aspect ratio! Vibrant colors etc...at times the quick edits were a little jarring but I understood the loss continuity causes that eye artifact distraction.I worked decades at the WB Television Network later the CW Network in the broadcast center here in Los Ángeles.

    Beautiful! Nice work, as usual. 😎
    I'd definitely like to track one down or build my own ST-70 someday.

      Which music, in the end or during... the during music is somewhat of a contentious issue right now as I adjust my non commentary restoration videos to a LP background music format without getting dinged by youtube.

    I'm making the gerber file for the circuit boards and the CAD for the chassis. I should have everything complete soon. The high prices of these parts drove me to do it myself . My transformers will be made by Mercury Magnetics, so they have a 10 year warranty. Now more people can enjoy an amp that's basic and affordable.

      @retrotechandelectronics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, today we have the luxury of doing it in a CAD program and uploading to a service to have it printed and delivered.

    That one "must of went" down with the Titanic. Good project if you have all time in the world and a sand blasting cabinet. That IS a replacement chassis ?

    I just acquired an ST-70 Mark II, do you have any comment or any advice on how to keep this amp in good health? It came to me in box, completely mint with original tubes and "if used" not to any visible extent. I was able to bias the tubes and everything sounds good, but as I'm in the process of building an ST-70 kit from scratch I'm curious what you think of the diode vs tube rectifier design

    Mind blowing work there!
    Had a question about the lettering/decals (as seen at 4:36) i.e. Mono, Stereo, Left, Right etc. that is done after the chassis is repainted/chrome-plated. Where does one go to get this done i.e. what type of a person/business would do this lettering work, and especially on a powder-coated chassis...so that the letters will stick, and not peel/fall off?
    Thanks.

    If anyone has a hankering to build a new virgin ST-70, there is an unopened, factory sealed kit at Echo Audio in Portland Oregon.. Think about it, brand new virgin tubes as well, including the now rare 7199 front end tubes.

    • @retrotechandelectronics
      @retrotechandelectronics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 7199 were an OK phase inverter. They are rare only because it came late to the game. Since then, a variety of current production tubes meet or exceed 7199 requirements.

    What input tube was that? 6GH8?

    • @retrotechandelectronics
      @retrotechandelectronics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is... 6GH8A electrically, a drop in phase inverter replacement for the 7199, only requiring those small adapters that reroute the pinout for physical compatibility.

    Awful music. I like how you keep your stripped wires short!

    • @retrotechandelectronics
      @retrotechandelectronics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's difficult to find reputable sources for LP background music that is not restricted, or getting bit in the ass month down the road with a copyright strike. I find myself mixing multiple tracks from verified sources for this purpose.
