Don't forget: "haven't been sleeping well due to weird insomnia" ! Even if you PR you can still bring up the hurdles that you had to overcome (to insinuate that you probably would've PRed by even more if it had not been for all these disadvantages and things that weren't even optimized!). Sure, it would be a humblebrag, but make sure you cloak it with enough #vulnerability and hashtag #authenticity🏃🏻♂🙌
I'm so glad you posted this. I have a big race coming up in a few weeks and realize I need to do a better job of reminding everyone that I have toddlers that require a TON of my time and attention.
In the movies there is heartwarming music to reinforce the hero's "vulnerability" and it gets everyone right in the feels. Cultivating, planting, and tending excuses is the highest form of the serious runner's art.
I set my PR in an 8K cross-country race after tripping on a tree root and falling down the one hill in north Jersey and getting water on the knee. I _always_ bring that up when discussing that one ;-)
The Excuse Matrix is so powerful. It should be adopted for work settings. “I am not the smartest person in the room, so I worked extra hard and pull some all nighters to deliver this project.”
Doing the Napa HM in early March and my coach already provided my excuses because it’s a “tuneup” for Boston (humble brag already inserted) and he wants me to run easy for at least the first half (hobby jog?) since it’s my “B race” 😂
Kofuzi carries the camera stick to put his viewers first and never uses it as an excuse (and doesn’t need to). But others do it for him nevertheless 😂 with all the comments about “if you just ditched the camera…”
You could add: pretend to put in effort coaching underprivileged children to their 5K PR and make that the reason why you are "loving investing in others even if it's at the detriment of your own training". You'll never have to provide proof because you are protecting the privacy of those kids and it adds virtual signaling bonus points.
Is this inspired by the another serious runner Eric Floberg? I remember one excuse where the non-PR was due to the hilly route in Boston. So it actually was a Grade Adjusted PR.
You are Netflix show worthy, but please tell me you don't really road run with your back to oncoming traffic like at the top of this video, that's just B roll footage stuff, right?
@@TheSeriousRunner I was watching _Psycho_ with friends who'd never seen it in 2010. I refused to tell them who Mother was even though it was 50 years old the time. All because my aunt once ruined _The Land Before Time_ by reacting to the next scene for the entire movie :-(

this is a great point and could be another entire video -- how to amplify your race results

Brilliant, as always. I find I've done so much of this without even trying :)
A true natural
some people have to work hard... but then there are people with natural talent.
@@TheSeriousRunner 🤣
Excellent content but it comes too late for my 20 mile trail race this Sunday with potentially icy conditions...
Not too late! You just put it out publicly 🎉
Hahaha love the content/excuses schedule!
Vital to get all the excuses out in the holding pen even to the random stranger next to you.

Another great video!
🙏 only the best, most high-quality educational content for my loyal followers
Well, I was older on race day than during training.
If it weren't for the wind...
It seems like we’ll need a post race excuses follow up video
A few sniffles and coughs go a long way

Have fun on race day! Dont forget to make them record yourself from an e bike✌️
paging @vo2maxproductions
@@TheSeriousRunner I'll charge up the bike! 🏍🎥
Reminds me of a serious runner Hoka sponsored to travel to travel to UTMB just to DNF. 😂
“If only the coach would have put me in, we would have won the state championship” - Uncle Rico
This is educational!
Taking notes ✍️✍️✍️😅😅😅

Oh my god this is brilliant.
That pesky Norovirus is going around. You may have had a touch of it and not known, or thought you were exposed to it while traveling to the race.

Notes taken.
What is this "caffeine fasting" of which you speak? Also...shout out to my PT doc for helping to get me to the start line! ;)
do people not know about caffeine fasting? is that a whole different educational video?
@@TheSeriousRunner I will have to unfollow you (again) if you do!
So you're saying your excuses start at the same time as your taper?
Shouldn't you at least get the new NDO poster???
Is caffeine fasting really a thing? Asking for a friend.
wow ok. we need an high-quality ivy-league level deep dive educational video about this.
You are Netflix show worthy, but please tell me you don't really road run with your back to oncoming traffic like at the top of this video, that's just B roll footage stuff, right?
Not usually no. I turned around on that road somewhere. probably an oncoming car or something and just didnt cross over yet
Bruce Willis was dead?? WTF!!!! Thank for the Spoiler 😜
lol 25 years seems like a fair statute of limitations for spoilers
btw, Darth Vader is Luke's dad.
@ oh man!!!!
@@TheSeriousRunner very much joking My friend 🙃

“Caffeine fast” is the only excuse you need for not setting a PR. All the subsequent headaches and irritability …☕️☕️. This is blasphemy.
You look tired in this video
I've just been training so much
Heavy training has a significant impact on sleep. Make sure to note it on your Strava.
@ You say that, Jeremy -- but @vo2maxproductions just thinks I'm just weak. Too much training *only* results in overuse injuries.
Sounds like you just need a higher dose of ketones and problem solved. 👌
We can have the Jeremy character and the Sage character debate this in Season 2 of the Serious Show
Thanks a lot for ruining the 6th Sense for me. I was planning to watch but won’t now that you spoiled it for me. Thanks a lot.
C’mon…nobody liked the Green Lantern movie 😉
Clothes is pretty worn out, are you even a runner?
That gear drop from Tracksmith should be arriving any day now.
No excuses! No way
I’m in this position now! Funchal Marathon on Sunday 🫣 maybe too late for this strategy! 😂
