Water survival saved my life in 2001 I went down in the Gulf of Mexico in a jet ranger 206 L model. I made it out the helicopter with a spinal cord injury and legs not working. They don’t train for that! But the things taught in school did help.
Great video! I have my Bosiet with CA - EBS, MIST and all that good stuff with AIS Survivex on the 26th of this month. Glad someone has done a good video on it to give me an insight. Thanks!
It's a great time for it, there is a big shortage of workers in the UK at the moment. Check out the guide on offshore survival website, it's only got a fraction of the jobs on there but it will give some info. www.offshoresurvivalcourse.co.uk/oil-rig-jobs/ All the best,
A couple of things stand out for me regarding the BOSIET. I wear glasses and felt a little uneasy in the pool area because everything was blurred as I had to leave the specs in the locker, I'm sure other people have felt the same. The hardest part of the training for me was pulling myself into the life raft, if it was a real emergency in the rough North Sea there is no way in this world I could pull myself in. You need a lot of strength, nowadays I would need a strong young lad to get in the raft first and pull me up by the tag on the back of my survival suit. Good video
🤔 i would definitely wear swimwear because they ain’t going to give you a new suit like in this video. It will be an old one that leaks! You will get wet. Also on Huet, it really important to concentrate on timing your last breath or you are not in a good place. Definitely have go to put window first as he said then buckle, but when you release the buckle, you have to make sure and turn it fully and twist hips to get all straps off, dont let go of it until legs are definitely free, then just follow arms. If you work on offshore vessels in the Uk MIST is not required, its only for platforms as far as i know
Thanks Jeffrey, my background is in oil/gas and later wind turbine construction. Thanks for the positive feedback, really appreciate it. More videos coming, literally making them now.
Great video btw. I have a few questions. Are you required to be clean shaved for the BOSIET regarding facefit for respirators? And do you know if it is a standard across the oil rig industry to be clean shaved? Ive searched the Internet with no clear answers. Thanks.
Thank you for this detailed breakdown it’s highly appreciated. Once you’ve acquired all of the necessary tickets, from your experience how easy is it to find employment or do a lot of companies want previous experience?
Thank you Sam. Regarding your question.
