This song is about the changes and challenges of life, Nicks wrote “Landslide” in 1974 in Aspen’s snow country, while her then-boyfriend Buckingham was on tour with Don Everly. Nicks has said in interviews that the song was about her romance with Buckingham and their career struggles, as well as her relationship with her business-executive father. Her months in the mountains inspired the lines with the song’s title, And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills/‘Til the landslide brought me down. And one verse contains questions that most of us ask ourselves at one time or another: Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life? It’s an emotional lyric, and while it may seem simple, the introspection of those words resonated with millions of record buyers

There are many great responses below but to add: their stormy relationship was front and center in pop culture at that time. It was very public and sort of followed the band around when they performed. They each have excellent solo albums.
When Stevie Nicks wrote this song, she was sitting, alone, on the floor of these peoples' house,in Aspen Colorado, staring out of this huge picture window, overlooking the snowy mountains, and hills, and writing in her journal. The only thing I can think of, when she says, "I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills" "Mirror,in the sky, what is love" etc. If you think of sitting in front of a window, you can see what's on the other side of the glass. But, at the same time, you can see a faint reflection of yourself in the glass, reflecting your image back at you. Maybe, when she saw her faint reflection,in the "snow covered hills". Also, I'm thinking, what is her reflection,to her, in this song? The ego? Her ego, among this beautiful scene of nature. How fragile the human ego is, when placed against the vision of these beautiful snowy mountains and hills? The ego, against mother nature, is nothing. And, if she decides to make the land slide, her reflection (aka ego) " the landslide will bring it down" ("the landslide will bring ME down") "Mirror in the sky, what is love?" Maybe she's speaking to herself (maybe to nature,at the same time.) Maybe at some point the majesty of this scene, and the reflection of her "self", is or appears to be as one. But, only for a moment. Mother Earth can decide at any time, to change that scene. But, she'll remain the same. But,also, only for a moment. Because choices, the passage of time will change that reflection. Will change her. "She's getting older, too". [Damn...That was a meditation 4 real. Lol]
She was riding through Colorado with a friend she got a phone call from her best friend and told her she was dying of cancer and ask her to help her look after her child she was looking through the window at the snow covered mountains
This song was written for her dad. Before her and Lindsey were with Fleetwood they were trying to make it big in the music industry, Stevie was cleaning houses, Lindsey was playing gigs but they weren’t making it financially. Her dad called her and said come home and go back to school, she thankfully didn’t go home.
They were high school sweethearts, who after high school became a musical duo...Buckingham and Nicks. Lots of struggles together. Fleetwood Mac originally only wanted Lindsey to join, but he insisted his partner and girlfriend Stevie was part of the package. Loads of passion and chemistry between them. Which they still , until she had him fired recently, let show, while playing music together. Their live performance of "Silver Springs" is amazing to watch play out between them. Stevie wrote that for him years ago. It's her greatest performance, in my opinion, and she is making her ex play lead guitar on it. Lindsey just recently got divorced ...hmmm :)
This song reminds me of my daddy. I get teary eyed every time I hear it and I miss him every day. He adopted me as his own and fostered my love of music. Stevie Nicks has a voice that can reach in and touch your soul. Thanks for another great reaction.
Time is fleeting indeed. This song always gets me teary-eyed thinking about my boys growing up. Hard to watch the best part of your life grow closer to not needing you anymore lol.
Great song great reaction. The man playing the guitar while Stevie was singing is her ex boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham (one of the greatest guitarists ever) they were high school sweethearts and lived together for many years. They joined Fleetwood Mac together and drug abuse, jealousy, and Lindsey's sometimes violent tendencies broke them up. She wrote this at a friend's home while contemplating leaving him. She said she had changed, gotten older, wanted to start over. He wrote Go Your Own Way as his angry response to her wanting to leave. Please react to "Rhiannon" live from the midnight special. Fleetwood Mac with Stevie singing lead will blow you away I promise! Also "Edge Of Seventeen" live. It was her first solo song without Fleetwood Mac. Thanks and take care.
Such a deep well of music. Roll it back to 1977. The song, Dreams, Rhiannon, You Make Lovin’ Fun. So much to discover with this group. You just fell down a rabbit hole. Enjoy the trip.
Voice of an Angel 👼🏻. Their best album is called Rumors. Stevie Nicks vocal and the guitar player is Lindsey Buckingham we’re breaking up and the music is full of emotions. DreamS The Chain Silver Springs Go your own way Just a few songs from the Rumors album. BJ is right
Fleetwood Mac’s album Rumors was produced while they were breaking up. (So was the piano player and the bass player-Christine and John McVie. Lots of turmoil was happening during this masterwork album. ❤️🤗
I always had a crush on Stevie Nicks when I was young but there is so much talent in this band (R.I.P.) Christine McVie who can never be replaced and is just as enchanting as Stevie and is sorely missed already.
The guitar player LINDSAY, and the singer, STEVIE, were a couple back in the 70s and had a crazy breakup while the group was still together recording music. It had a huge influence on the songs on their album RUMOURS, which is one of the most famous albums in music history. The were writing and playing songs together while breaking up. To make it even more crazy, there was another couple in the band who were also going through a break up, which just made the legend around this album even bigger. LANDSLIDE was not from the RUMOURS album which just shows that they were making fabulous music even before the legendary album was recorded for RUMOURS. Thanks for your review and keep smiling 🤘 🙂
Hi 👋 yeah Queen is in the house , Love Stevie Nicks all my life! Been privilege to see Stevie & Fleetwood Mac twice in my life… omg Asia you have not heard Stevie before my dear there’s so much of Stevie for you to catch up with ….. she’s also on a huge number of other artists albums as back up or her Duets with other artist. Wow...you got to get into some Hall & Oates-"Sara Smile"; "One on One"; "I Can`t Go For That"; "She`s Gone"; "Maneater"...and Journey-"Open Arms"; "Faithfully"; Steve Perry (from Journey) -"Foolish Heart". Player-"Baby Come Back"...Christopher Cross-"Sailing"...Ambrosia-"Biggest Part Of Me"; "You`re The Only Woman"; "How Much I Feel"...so many more.
The song that put Miss Stevie Nicks #1 all time on my list of the greatest female vocalist. Still stands to this day. This is from there concert The Chain that was put on video.. Note this was released over 20 years after the original song was recorded.
They are the prime example of how a tumultuous relationship between musicians in a group can inspire some of the greatest songs of the era. Watching Stevie perform Silver Springs in this same concert is like watching friends after a break-up. At the crescendo, she turns and looks right at him while he’s playing and sings to him - 20 years after the break up - “you’ll NEVER get away from the sound of the woman that LOVED you. Was I just a fool? I’ll follow you down until the sound of my voice will haunt you. Give me just a chance.” Stevie had an incredible gift for songwriting and such a unique voice; Lindsey is practically a virtuoso on the guitar and understood what his instrument needed to say to support her words - but in several of their greatest collaborations, she was talking about or even directly to HIM. I can’t imagine what it’s like to make beautiful stationary for a former lover to write you a letter about how you ruined everything, then send it out to the world.
I always equated this song to memories how a memory of someone could be like a reflection in the snow covered hills and make you feel good n then that person is gone from your life n that is the landslide that brings you back down to reality
Stevie Nick's is singing and Lindsey Buckingham playing guitar were in a relationship back in the day. Hence the expression on Lindsey face. Beautiful song and great band. Stevie Nick's is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame two times one for the band and also as a solo artist. Great reaction.
This song was about the romance & discord of the singer Stevie Nicks & on stage guitar player Lindsey Buckingham who had a previous relationship together. That's what makes the performance emotional.
Queen Stevie...Only woman inducted into music hall of fame twice. Fleetwood Mac = Legends." Rhiannon" "Dreams" "Rumours" album is considered one of the greatest albums made. Full blown story between them. Nicely done u2!
Some key points of the song are that she is making a stand for herself and what she wants. She said she wrote this about her career, her relationship with Lindsey (the guitar player she sings to here) and her business executive, who was also her father. Basically, she's willing to let the "landslide" of relationship problems happen because she climbed to the top and became bold. She looked at herself (saw her reflection). Found she had grown up and was ready to make a change, a change she had been avoiding. That change meant she would no longer live her life around the will of the other person (father or Lindsey, we don't know). It's a season of her life of transitioning to being fully adult, fully in charge of her life. There is fear to it, she questions it, but she has found the boldness to make this change, despite how it will cause great relationship disruption (the landslide).
Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham put out an album on their own in 1973 before they joined Fleetwod Mac. The album is titled simply Buckingham Nicks. Many people, even Fleetwod Mac fans, don't know about this album. It is superb! Listen to Crying In The Night, Long Distance Winner, Races Are Run, Crystal, and the monumental Frozen Love.
Time is very fleeting...seems just yesterday I was playing Fleetwood mac on my pioneer stereo. Then my husband and daughter dancing to landslide at her wedding. Now I'm getting ready to have a great granddaughter. Cherish every moment. I love watching you young couples enjoy the music I loved as a teen.and forever...should have been there it's been a wild ride. 😜
I would say the face in the snow covered hills and landslide bringing it down is combining the effect of time on her and also on seemingly timeless mountains. Both are subject to changes by time as you already determined in your reaction.
Stevie Nicks & Lindsay Buckingham were an item back in the early years. They always get emotional, they did an album in 1973 called Buckingham and Nicks you can listen to the whole album on TH-cam but check out a song called crying in the night. It’s the only album they did before they join Fleetwood Mac and I have a copy of it that my father bought me back in 73.
They try to keep their emotions hidden from each other , but it's eating them alive! They was an item before and after they was famous! Then they broke up in a very bad way!The only way that they could talk to each other without fighting was through music! He quit the band because he couldn't deal with the heartache ! It took many years for him to rebuild and regain himself! This video was taped after he rejoined the band 2014-2017! That's why you see them cut eyes at each other without the other one noticing it! This performance was for them to show each other that it time to deal with the closure process of their relationship after so many years without any sort of closure! I love this band and always will!
Time flys when life is good. I had an awsome childhood and teenage year back in the 80s. Then 1 day i woke up and im 56 years old and still married to my highschool sweetheart. Wouldnt change 1 thing. Married way 2 young but we knew. You guys have that as well.
You should 100% check out Rihannon fleetwood mac live 1976, it is probably Stevie nicks best live performence, her voice is on point and shows why it defined an entire generation of female singers coming afterwards. She is also high as a kite which makes the performence even more spiritual. And just to add, some of their live performences are even better than studio versions as they are often compressed to fit radio, live performences when they are on point is just a godsent, they are free to be creative, riff away and just play and have fun.
Stevie has a unique voice, she has the ability to sing great ballads and rock it with the best. Try "Rhiannon" live 1976 and anything from their best album - "Rumours".
It's just funny to get your reactions knowing Fleetwood Mac are musical Legends with decades of history and hit songs. They are one of those bands most people will recognize, because they are so ingrained in American culture.
Lyndsey Buckingham (guitar player) was emotional. Stevie Nicks (lead singer) & Lyndsey were a couple for a while. I don’t think she ever really got over him. You MUST react to “Silver Springs”, (official music video). This was 20 years after the song was originally recorded (written after their breakup) and if you want to see a living example of “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” 🤣 watch how Stevie sings that sing to Lindsey. I get chills every single time! 😀🔥🤘🏼❤️
Are you thinking about me when I look at the mountain? Maybe if you're thinking of me too, you can meet me when we come back down... my take. Remember, she was singing about her life with the person playing guitar... Rumors album is gold. FRONT TO BACK.
That is an older Fleetwood Mac maybe when they were on a reunion tour. They produced the original Landslide in 1975. Stevie's voice was sublime in the 70's.
You need to do more Fleetwood Mac…especially all the songs from the Rumours album. And you must do the Rhiannon Live in the midnight special 76. And while you are at it…check out Stevie Nicks solo stuff, Edge of Seventeen, Stand Back, Leather and Lace, Stop Dragging my Heart Around and many more.
She wrote this about the man standing next to her...Lindsey Buckingham is the guitarist....long before these two joined fleetwood mac they were trying to make it musically many struggles became a couple and Stevie talks about how she wasnt sure if they were going in the right direction pr going to make it. While struggling to make it...Fleetwood Mac asked lindsey to join their band...Lindsey said as long as you take my girlfriend too...stevoe nicks....within a yr they were millionaires...but the stardom tore at their relationship...it gets deep with these 2....never stopped loving eachother...Lindsey never gpt over stevie and had said maybe we would have stayed together if not joining fm...all their musical dreams came true at the cost of their love...thats why you see Lindsey get emotional....he knows the song is abt him....and written long before they made it to where they are here.....Most of songs they both write abt eachother Dreams Stevie wrote abt him and Go your own way Lindsey wrote and sings abt her....classics.
Some of the greatest and truest lyrics of all time right here: Well, I've been afraid of changin, cause I've built my life around you. But time makes you bolder, even children get older... and I'm getting older too ♥️😭
He got red because, firstly this is a special song for them, and she is totally nailing every song that night and this was better than the original recording. The cemented her standing as the queen of rock, he was simply bowing.
You can definitely see and feel the emotion between these two former lovers. As to the acoustic guitar, the style of play is called Travis picking. It was popularized by a country and western singer, songwriter Merle Travis. Another song that features the style of play is "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas.
My first wife, an Angel , loved me with all her heart and I wasn’t in it , 8 years later I ended things and driving back to utah from Detroit she gave me burned cd that had this song on it and it kills me still, and have never forgiven myself for breaking her heart . It’s been 16 years and I’m a 43 year old single dad of 3 amazing daughters , just lost my mom to brain cancer November 3rd and man this song still gets me. Music has such a power!
You know someone is cool and a Queen when they can write a song about their troubles with a partner and then have that same partner play the song at every concert. Stevie Nicks Rocks!
This is more like Buckingham-Nicks before they joined Fleetwood Mac. The group is named for the rhythm section, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, who are even performing on this tune. They also have another female singer, Christine McVie.
Being in love is like climbing up a mountain. You do all these things to climb up the mountain and then once you get up there you realize it’s not as great as you thought it would be and you have to come down but it’s way worse coming down. “And I saw my reflection” is her saying she saw herself in this person. Just like Justin Timberlake made that song mirror, she is so connected to this person it feels like she’s leaving a piece of herself. “Till the landslide brought me down” the pain and sadness that comes from the breakup feels cold, dark, and heavy as a bunch of snow packed on top of you.
When you see your reflection, your life through introspection and how you got to this moment, what made you the person you are, the good decisions and the bad....you've climbed that mountain, you've turned around and are looking at your reflection.....the landslide is that moment that the world came crashing down, the moment that made all of it worthless or gave it all a whole new meaning. It's when your illusions come crashing down and all that's left is reevaluating what matters and what it all means. Much love and take care y'all.
They are ex lovers. Who still work together. One of the best bands ever. They have a huge catalogue and ruled the air in the airwaves late 70s. Thier album Rumors, took all time selling album at one time.
Stevie Nicks (the singer) and Lindsey Buckingham (the guitar player) are part of one of the greatest love stories in the history of music. They burned like a star for a while, but eventually realized that they weren't right for one another and broke up. But they have both said that they still love each other a great deal and have gone from lovers to the best of friends. And given that this song -- which is all about the struggles you face while living your life, the ups and downs both -- was written about their relationship, I'm sure it hits him hard sometimes.
This may sound a little morbid, but I plan to have this song played at my funeral, when that day comes. ps. Stevie Nicks is a damn goddess! You absolutely have to react to 'edge of seventeen - Stevie Nicks.; You may notice that Destiny's Child sampled it for "Bootilicious." There's a great live version here on YT labelled as "(official video.)"
Very nice reaction ! Of course I wonder how you can grow up in the US not knowing this mostly American (part British) band ? What music did you listen to instead ? (I grew up in Germany and this was one of my first Vinyl albums...). Here a Wikipedia excerpt: (1977), Fleetwood Mac's second album after the arrival of Buckingham and Nicks, produced four U.S. Top 10 singles and remained at number one on the American albums chart for 31 weeks. It also reached the top spot in various countries around the world and won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1978. has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums in history.
I think she said the verse " if you see my reflection...", towards the end to say if you see in you what she experienced, don't let the landslide bring you down. Hope that made sense.

"Mirror in the sky, what is love?" Maybe she's speaking to herself (maybe to nature,at the same time.) Maybe at some point the majesty of this scene, and the reflection of her "self", is or appears to be as one.
They had a long term off and on love affair. This is a rabbit hole you want to go down. The album "Rumours" is arguably the greatest ever recorded/
Great album but I go with Revolver.
I prefer the live version of most of their hits... The Dance
She wrote the song about the two of them and there love and life together
More Fleetwood Mac please. Such a good band!
Silver Springs is a beautiful song by them❤
Stevie Nicks wrote this beautiful song and many others. Her talent is huge! 🌺✌️
Stevie & Lindsay!!! Amazing talent and soulmates!! This is gold!!!!
This song reminds me of my daddy. I get teary eyed every time I hear it and I miss him every day. He adopted me as his own and fostered my love of music. Stevie Nicks has a voice that can reach in and touch your soul. Thanks for another great reaction.
Pink Floyd - Time. Studio version. Since you brought up time going by fast, this song has some of the deepest lyrics ever written.
The quintessential song about the passage of time
Time is fleeting indeed.
The older I get, the more this song means to me.
Voice of an Angel 👼🏻.
Their best album is called Rumors. Stevie Nicks vocal and the guitar player is Lindsey Buckingham we’re breaking up and the music is full of emotions.
DreamS
The Chain
Silver Springs
Go your own way
Just a few songs from the Rumors album. BJ is right
Always loved this song. As I’ve gotten older, it hits even harder.
Fleetwood Mac’s album Rumors was produced while they were breaking up. (So was the piano player and the bass player-Christine and John McVie. Lots of turmoil was happening during this masterwork album. ❤️🤗
I had heard of fleetwood mac but never got into them until one day i listened to the chain by them and i've been listening to them ever since
I always had a crush on Stevie Nicks when I was young but there is so much talent in this band (R.I.P.) Christine McVie who can never be replaced and is just as enchanting as Stevie and is sorely missed already.
She was in my view beautiful as well since I was young girl… I’m now 47 always love Stevie…..enjoy her rabbit hole you won’t regret it…. Love you guys 😊take care
So many great songs and music by Fleetwood and stevie. Classics.
The song that put Miss Stevie Nicks #1 all time on my list of the greatest female vocalist. Still stands to this day. This is from there concert The Chain that was put on video.. Note this was released over 20 years after the original song was recorded.
Watch Stevie slay the song Rhiannon live performance from the 70’s it’s fire 🔥
Great reaction, check out their song - "Rhiannon" - live on The Midnight Special.
You will love Fleetwood Macs song "Dreams" which Stevie wrote about her break up with Lyndsey. The original studio version is absolutely hypnotic.
“The Chain” is a great song! You will appreciate the heck out of it!
Her voice is my most favorite of all women singers.... she's angelic! I hope ya'll like the video and react to more!
Stevie's 74 yrs old and still touring. Damn I feel sooooo old now.
You are in for a treat on this journey, one of my fav bands i've heard as an adult looking back
Stevie Nick's has been my favorite female artist for as long as I can remember. Seeing her live..... absolutely incredible!
The way they can still perform together says a lot about growth and love.
I was able to see fleetwood mac live in concert in ethier 2018 or 2019. Great concert. Stevie can still sing. Looks and sounds amazing.
My Little Demon and Big Love are two of my favs of Fleetwood Mac. They really show off Buckingham's talent on the guitar as well.
It’s amazing, every comment on how or why this song was written, Even though you both are speaking. Reminds me of my Daddy!
They sang Silver Springs at this same concert performance. That song is amazing also. Check it out Asia and BJ
Are you thinking about me when I look at the mountain? Maybe if you're thinking of me too, you can meet me when we come back down... my take. Remember, she was singing about her life with the person playing guitar... Rumors album is gold. FRONT TO BACK.
This song reminds me of when my daughter left for college. It made me cry.
Hey what do u think about what's going on now with ur horrible president Biden!!????
@@michaelasay6140 Get outta here TROLL!!! Your life is PATHETIC if this is how you pass your time!!!
MORON!!!
As someone said, Stevie Nicks not only wrote a heart-breaking break-up song, she had her ex- play it on the guitar beside her.
That is an older Fleetwood Mac maybe when they were on a reunion tour. They produced the original Landslide in 1975. Stevie's voice was sublime in the 70's.
Please, more, from the greatest band EVER!!! Oh, just wait til you hear more of Stevie’s voice, especially when she was younger.
But time makes you bolder, even children get older... and I'm getting older too ♥️😭
Stevie nicks has one of a kind voice. She's badass. Gotta check out the live performance of "Rhiannon" live 76"
Their "The Midnight Special'' live version is perhaps the best rendition.
@@Dusty999 I believe that is the 76 version I was mentioning.
Where stevie kills it towards the end of the song.
@@Dusty999 I like all their live stuff on The Dance album
@@josephamoraz7990 Absolutely!
This performance is awesome.
Stevie nicks and Lindsey bunckinham. Just the two of them up there vocals and acoustic guitar. Something special about it
Being in love is like climbing up a mountain.
She was INCREDIBLE HOT In the mid 70s and into the late 70s. but Father time doesn't play favorites.
Lindsay Buckingham is the guitarist. He's one of the greatest. Check out his live version of Big Love. Great share...
The Queen… so much Love ❤️ it is a tearjerker 💯💜💗💗
You have to know the history between the singer and the guitarist. It IS the story of their music...
They have some great blues from their early days, late 60's early 70's.
I think she said the verse " if you see my reflection...", towards the end to say if you see in you what she experienced, don't let the landslide bring you down. Hope that made sense.
