Theon is such a strong character because I think a lot of people have been in a similar position. Realizing that you made the wrong choice and that you are truly paying for it. That you are truly unhappy with your mistake.

Alfie Allen is one of the most under rated actors on the show. He has had one of the most complex character arcs to tackle, and he nailed it, going from a cocky young lad who sought glory, to a tortured prisoner who has lost his mind and lost free will, to someone who has finally found themselves and knows their true allegiances.
Tbh I think the writers kinda shafted him till now. When a character always loses all the time it just kinda gets boring, which his arc has been since season 4. Never cared about his scenes since. And he kinda saves Yara really easily and really fast, you can't really enjoy him finally succeeding, hell even he looks miserable. Its just...weird? If Jon had a rescue mission it'd be the whole episode, but Theon I guess only gets 5 minutes after 4 seasons of beatdown?

He had a better sister figure than his own sister. He tried to please his father, so he betrayed the people who were closest to him. He regretted this, and swore to change for the better. He was lost for years. And most importantly, he took his honor back.

He never felt comfortable been a Greyjoy, he always had Ned & Robb in his mind; he missed the direction along the way, but rose to be the Stark he was always meant to be. More than Sansa with her southern ways More than Arya who is a faceless assassin More than Jon who chose Targaryens & wildlings More than Bran who is the three eyed Raven Theon died in Winterfell, protecting Winterfell, Protecting the old gods, Protecting his brother Bran and in the God woods.

My favourite character. So many people are so shallow when they say they hate him for betraying Robb. He’s a fallible character. He’s so flawed and since he left Winterfell he’s done everything in his power to make amends. If that isn’t a fantastic character I don’t know what is
You have to feel sorry for him. Despite living among the starks basically all his life that he can remember, he‘s still treated like an outsider, and even though him and Robb are like brothers, Robb does remind him how winterfell is not his home. Then when he comes home to his father, he is greeted with no warmth, and his father even seems displeased to see him. He just wanted to belong somewhere, and he ended up rectifying his mistakes in S8, one of the few characters d&d wrapped up nicely.
This video really made me realize just how bad Theon really had it. I was upset when he betrayed Rob but looking back the Starks never really treated him that great either. No wonder he's confused with his identity. Great job on the video 👏!
Cat and some of the Stark kids, yes. But Robb treated him like a brother and Ned treated him like his own son. I think Theon wanted to be a Stark more then he wanted to be a Greyjoy. He saw the loyalty, love, and warmth in that family.
Theon was much closer to the starks than to his biological Family. No wonder why he said that his real father lost his dead in King's landing and No wonder why He was so loyal to the Starks ( until He betrayed them to make his father proud ), because He felt actually home at Winterfell, that's why it hit him so much, when he heard this words from Robb, who was like a brother for him. Even when He betrayed the Starks He realized He chose the wrong side and should have been with Robb instead. Ned was more of a father to him than his biological father ever was. Ned threated him kindly and with respect, unlike his biological father, who saw him as a stark in the first place and not like one of his own. And just because Robb was mean by saying "it's not your House" doesn't mean he meant it this way. They grew Up together and were close. Theon was the one, Robb trusted the Most, that's why He was so mad and upset about him that he betrayed the starks. He saw him as a part of the starks, and when He said " it's Not your House" he meant by blood, which is obviously true. Robb wasn't the one with the biggest empathy anyway. He also called Jon "Snow", reminded him often that he is not a stark. But He still loved him as his Brother, just like Theon.
Will yeah but Robb was his brother from another mother and eventually the starks accepted him as one of there own he may have been born a Greyjoy but he died honourably and a hero like a stark would and he died a stark and proud who just wanted to defend his brother bran stark.
Oh, it's not over yet, not until he is dead. I hope he'll get the chance to return the favour to Jon, help him realise he is Targaryen and Stark both, and that Nedd WAS his father. Jon's likely going to need that with the revelation he's just been given. And even from there, I imagine Theon will have to put his blade behind his purpose too. And probably die for it.

My favorite character. What a character ark. A stark by loyalty but an iron born by unbreakable strength. One mistake he made doesn't define him. He is a true friend, an honourable man and mist importantly a man who will rise no matter how many timhe falls down.
just saw theons death , may he rest in peace , he was really a good man but he was also vulnerable . he wasn't respected by his father or people (the ironborn) and even though the starks loved him as one of their own, as their brother, they kept reminding him that he really wasn't one of them. Theon was lost because of this , he knows that hes a prince but yet hes not sitting on a thrown he was being another lords ward. He was just looking for his place in the world, for the respect that he deserved but was not given. And even though he betrayed the starks, got tortured physically and mentally and was still disrespected (and then hated) by many he still faced all of his obstacles , mistakes, fears , regrets and amended his wrong choices and died a hero in front of the knight king while defending the starks. RIP Theon you died as a prince, a hero ,, a man.
And here probably the best written character in the entire series. Putting internal conflicts and more complicated issues than the typical heroes in the series
Can we just appreciate that even the name Greyjoy seems hint at somebody who's stuck between two separate identities? Grey being the color that is both black and white, and Theon being the character that is both Stark and Greyjoy.

I love how early on in the series, Theon took insult when people implied that he's more Stark than Greyjoy but began carrying his Stark-ness as a badge of honor towards the end.
Last night's episode really put an awesome bow on Theon's arc, getting his sister, now queen's, approval to help defend his home. It may not be his birth home, but its the home he grew to love. Damn. This is good
Theon was always my favourite character - I empathised with him the most; I was brought up between two divorced parents that used me a weapon. I was made to choose and feel like a prisoner at home as a child - now I am older and wise enough to decide who and what I am. It's hard to understand how much damage a dysfunctional family upbringing has on a child; we have trouble understanding our own feelings and struggle to form relationships.
They ruined it if you know anything about Theon and like stories beyond bullshit fairytale storytelling. Theon's arc is about identity not redemption, because he truly didn't owe the Starks anything to be honest.

What i love(d) about theon was that he was so realistic and relatable. Alot of characters in this series are portrayed to be perfect in many ways, but we get reminded so many times that theon just is a human. He made mistakes, suffered consequenses, and corrected many of them. At certain times i hated him, at other times i loved him.
This breaks my heart. Theon is my favorite and he went through so much and I always understood his POV and his motives. It sucks that people bash his character and cant see everything he went through. I loved his story and his journey though, it was so well fleshed out imo and he truly redeemed himself in my eyes. Alfie is phenomenal. Loved your video, the way you edited the scenes together with the music really made you understand him.
Love the transition from Jon saying “You never lost him, he’s a part of you, just like he’s a part of me” to Theon saying “if not for me, for yara”. He risked his life to protect his sister just as Ned did, Ned really was a part of Theon. Amazing edit!

My favourite character. So many people are so shallow when they say they hate him for betraying Robb. He’s a fallible character. He’s so flawed and since he left Winterfell he’s done everything in his power to make amends. If that isn’t a fantastic character I don’t know what is

You have to feel sorry for him. Despite living among the starks basically all his life that he can remember, he‘s still treated like an outsider, and even though him and Robb are like brothers, Robb does remind him how winterfell is not his home. Then when he comes home to his father, he is greeted with no warmth, and his father even seems displeased to see him. He just wanted to belong somewhere, and he ended up rectifying his mistakes in S8, one of the few characters d&d wrapped up nicely.
This video really made me realize just how bad Theon really had it. I was upset when he betrayed Rob but looking back the Starks never really treated him that great either. No wonder he's confused with his identity. Great job on the video 👏!
Cat and some of the Stark kids, yes. But Robb treated him like a brother and Ned treated him like his own son. I think Theon wanted to be a Stark more then he wanted to be a Greyjoy. He saw the loyalty, love, and warmth in that family.

Theon was much closer to the starks than to his biological Family. No wonder why he said that his real father lost his dead in King's landing and No wonder why He was so loyal to the Starks ( until He betrayed them to make his father proud ), because He felt actually home at Winterfell, that's why it hit him so much, when he heard this words from Robb, who was like a brother for him. Even when He betrayed the Starks He realized He chose the wrong side and should have been with Robb instead. Ned was more of a father to him than his biological father ever was. Ned threated him kindly and with respect, unlike his biological father, who saw him as a stark in the first place and not like one of his own. And just because Robb was mean by saying "it's not your House" doesn't mean he meant it this way. They grew Up together and were close. Theon was the one, Robb trusted the Most, that's why He was so mad and upset about him that he betrayed the starks. He saw him as a part of the starks, and when He said " it's Not your House" he meant by blood, which is obviously true. Robb wasn't the one with the biggest empathy anyway. He also called Jon "Snow", reminded him often that he is not a stark. But He still loved him as his Brother, just like Theon.
Will yeah but Robb was his brother from another mother and eventually the starks accepted him as one of there own he may have been born a Greyjoy but he died honourably and a hero like a stark would and he died a stark and proud who just wanted to defend his brother bran stark.
Being an asian adopted and raised by a Norwegian family, I find Theon to be an incredibly relatable character.

Oh, it's not over yet, not until he is dead. I hope he'll get the chance to return the favour to Jon, help him realise he is Targaryen and Stark both, and that Nedd WAS his father. Jon's likely going to need that with the revelation he's just been given. And even from there, I imagine Theon will have to put his blade behind his purpose too. And probably die for it.

My favorite character. What a character ark. A stark by loyalty but an iron born by unbreakable strength. One mistake he made doesn't define him. He is a true friend, an honourable man and mist importantly a man who will rise no matter how many timhe falls down.

Totally I thought he portrays a more real personality and development than other characters.
just saw theons death , may he rest in peace , he was really a good man but he was also vulnerable . he wasn't respected by his father or people (the ironborn) and even though the starks loved him as one of their own, as their brother, they kept reminding him that he really wasn't one of them. Theon was lost because of this , he knows that hes a prince but yet hes not sitting on a thrown he was being another lords ward. He was just looking for his place in the world, for the respect that he deserved but was not given. And even though he betrayed the starks, got tortured physically and mentally and was still disrespected (and then hated) by many he still faced all of his obstacles , mistakes, fears , regrets and amended his wrong choices and died a hero in front of the knight king while defending the starks. RIP Theon you died as a prince, a hero ,, a man.
I always get bad for Theon and seeing him suffer was horrific. Now to see him rise up is amazing
And here probably the best written character in the entire series. Putting internal conflicts and more complicated issues than the typical heroes in the series
Can we just appreciate that even the name Greyjoy seems hint at somebody who's stuck between two separate identities? Grey being the color that is both black and white, and Theon being the character that is both Stark and Greyjoy.
His character is so good and emotional, it outweighs all others. He has to pay for one mistake his whole life.

I love how early on in the series, Theon took insult when people implied that he's more Stark than Greyjoy but began carrying his Stark-ness as a badge of honor towards the end.
Last night's episode really put an awesome bow on Theon's arc, getting his sister, now queen's, approval to help defend his home. It may not be his birth home, but its the home he grew to love.

Theon was always my favourite character - I empathised with him the most; I was brought up between two divorced parents that used me a weapon. I was made to choose and feel like a prisoner at home as a child - now I am older and wise enough to decide who and what I am. It's hard to understand how much damage a dysfunctional family upbringing has on a child; we have trouble understanding our own feelings and struggle to form relationships.
Rest in peace, Theon. You've finally found yourself. You deserve a place in the crypt of Winterfell, among the Stark Lords

They ruined it if you know anything about Theon and like stories beyond bullshit fairytale storytelling. Theon's arc is about identity not redemption, because he truly didn't owe the Starks anything to be honest.

What i love(d) about theon was that he was so realistic and relatable. Alot of characters in this series are portrayed to be perfect in many ways, but we get reminded so many times that theon just is a human. He made mistakes, suffered consequenses, and corrected many of them. At certain times i hated him, at other times i loved him.
